Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2 things

2. What change could we possibly make that will help with that? You may not have noticed but we have no ruckmen to pick!!

Im talking about clearances that resulted in goals!

After being grumpy and withdrawn for 24 hours I feel I can at last begin to look at our next match. Adelaide in Adelaide could be a total whitewash if we are not careful.

In his post match press conference, Goodwin made repeated mention of players not having a defensive mindset in the first half and being really disappointed in that. Also, we were annihilated in the air, so maybe the coaching staff will address these 2 things. In light of that, maybe

OUT   JKH, Bugg, OMac/Wagner. OMac would be unlucky even though he continues to give me "Ben Holland" syndrome every time he looks like kicking it.

IN     Harmes (clumsy as a baby emu but he is good in the air). Stretch (good at two way running) and unfortunately maybe Weid who is not ready but can at least compete in the air if not actually hold them yet.

Feels like clutching at straws or shuffling the deck chairs, but trying to figure out a way forward without much anticipation of change.

Maldon we are already on track for a jolly good flogging. I would prefer you don't also add more salt to the wounds pre match and pull our pants down prior to the first bounce in full ready position.  You may wish to allow yourself the courtesy of another 24 hours break before reviewing that line of deduction pls. I'm sure your clarity will improve even further if you do and you will finally see a bit of light....and hopefully it's not a nasty MFC train!

If North hadn't humbled them I'd give us a real shot. The Crows will now be breathing fire.

<sarcasm>So for once we are unlucky and face a team at the worst possible time...</sarcasm>

I'm reluctant to have Kent in when he seemingly refuses to pull his finger out at VFL level but we badly need some added run.

Out: JKH, Bugg, Wagner

in: Kent, ANB, Stretch

Hannan gets one more week. Looked out of place on the weekend but can't really fault his effort.

What will make them show up in the first quarter?

What will change?

Really interested to know the magic that leads to this prediction or is it just hope?

To be brutally honest,it doesn't matter who comes in and who goes out.We don't have the "cattle" simple as that. The loss of Gawn and to a lesser extent Joel Smith was a huge blow. Spencer should have been delisted ages ago,yes he may play a good game as a replacement but like most replacements are not up to scratch. I would have pick a forward/ruckman in preference to Brayshaw and then follow up picking more mids. Oliver and Hunt are the two standouts.Tyson and Salem need to produce the goods. Personally I wouldn't have Nat Jones and Vince in the same side. Both have been around for a long time yet neither are stand outs. Weid,Bugg,Kennedy,ANB,JKH,O'MAC,Trengove,Hannan,Hulett,Wagner,VanderB etc are only up to VFL standard. King and White havn't progress in the VFL,thou King has been injured.Pedersen is too short be  a quality ruck man,the club should have planned ages ago for a decent back up to Gawn. Out of the new recruits we picked up in the last draft what are we going to get out of them, they don't seem to be setting the world on fire. Perhaps it is wishful thinking on my part. The question I would like to ask Hogan, does he still want to play for the club.

Cant help but agree to most of the Enyaw Many on here wanted a ready made ruck forward 2 years ago and we got Melksham Just Tragic!!

I remember last year when Garlett was dropped for 3 weeks Roosy brought him back in on the back of poor form in the VFL simply because "he was too good of a player to be playing VFL". Goody needs to roll the dice and bring back Kent. Some players just play better at AFL level then VFL and Kent is one of them.

Everyone assumes that Kent was dropped for his defensive pressure. He had 8 tackles on the weekend. He might not have set the world on fire but he did what we assume he was sent back to work on.

Will be amazed if he doesn't come in for JKH.

I've been thinking about his. But it must be an awkward sell for the coaches. Kent is frustrating and erratic. Which means he's also unpredictable and then hard to match up on. While he [censored] half of them up, he at least generates multiple chances. A big and competitive body who can unsettle opponents - probably a very handy in for this one.

Would be interested in hearing someone's reports from the Casey game.  Looked at the best this morning and Melksham was BOG for Casey.  Disappointing that no other MFC listed player was named in the best.  I'm a massive fan of Kent, but doesn't seem to be banging the door down which is disappointing.  Unless his performance warrants the selection, I think we need to persevere with Hannan.

Our forward pressure was however horrible in the first quarter in particular, so I'd expect at least one change down there (maybe ANB).

Report shows Kent had 7 tackles 93 Dreamteam points

Trengove 95 Dreamteam points

Foolishly Booked a Plane Tickets to the Adelaide game at the start of the year with a good mate. Going in with very low expectations given where both clubs are at.

After seeing Richmond start well against them and get blown out of the water.. We can't afford any dead weight and Disposal Eff must lift.

We'll need a 4qtr effort to lose by 20 points..

OUT JKH Wagner Hannan

IN Kent Stretch Harmes

A group of us did same (early optimism) and still have high expectation.

With the coach able to stress the need to start and focus for 4 full quarters the game could be won on selection.

Adelaide will no doubt come out hard and lift intensity in front of home crowd to regain their momentum. crowd probably likely to influence umpires so need to be clean and in front, expect howlers.

Let me buck the trend, we are not as bad as some of the posts suggest. The game was lost in a couple of ways. Pedo tried hard but wasn't up to the task on the day. We allowed their ruck to drift in from the side too often. Why oh why did we take TMac out of the backline?

Can Oscar play forward? He and Frosty took 7 marks each on the weekend. It would give us options including to run Watts through he ruck and middle more. Watts is a much better player when he is forced to work hard which putting him in the ruck has done. His second half was much better last week.

Out: JHK, Hannan, Bugg.

In:  Kent Stretch and Trengove.

Good to see.  Suggests that Kent was applying forward pressure, which was really lacking at times against the Hawks on Saturday.

Not sure where I see Trengove fitting in within our team - he's obviously not an outside runner, and I wonder whether he could apply the forward pressure in a AVB type role.  He's best almost as the link man around stoppages (we have Oliver/Viney & co in the trenches), but there are too many ahead of him for me to see him sneaking in.

Also not sure re Trengove coz he hasn't been on the park in ones.

can tackle, can run all day though slow according to everyone but continues to get the ball in twos.

It could be worth proving what he's got against the best. He seems to respond well to hard challenges

Youngest team on the park, with the game style we are attempting to play we are going to make mistakes, less, would be nice though. We're not going to beat all of their talls, even Hawthorns were beating us in the air and they're not as good as the Crows. We have to make it a high pressure game, keep the ball low and take Sloane out of the game.

Outs: JKH, Hannan

In: Stretch, ANB

For health reasons I think I'm going to sit this one out.

Tackling stats aren't the only measurement of applying defensive pressure. At times it's just as important to corral the opposition when they have the ball, to reduce the number of options they have. With JKH, he has the intent to apply pressure, but often the opposition will just run straight past him.

Just bring Kent back in FFS, because scoreboard pressure is the best kind of pressue. Some coaches get caught up with their KPI's to the detriment of the team.

Goodwin pretty much flagged a change mid-game when he moved Hunt down to the forward line to try and put some pressure on the Hawks back 6.  I would be surprised if Kent didn't come back in this week

Agree. All about tackle count. Remeber he had one or two in three weeks at senior level.  8 in rhe vfl will get him back in. At the exspense of jkh i suspect. I think hannan stays because of his intensity

I think we will go ok this week.  My theory is that our style of footy is better suited to the more narrow footy grounds.  Each time we have played the MCG we have taken a while to adjust our structure to cover wide - and  the other teams are using the width well.    AO is 17 m narrower than MCG.  We needed to learn to play the smaller grounds and it is something that has improved this season - however it would be better if we didn't completely forget how to play our home ground in the meantime!    I disagree with many about the intent of the players.  I have no doubt that they want to win, I think they are still learning how to make subtle changes when things need changing as they are all focused on individual KPI's.  The games we win and the quarters we win you can see the switch into a team first, trust the other players mentality.  I think the key is getting this mentality for the majority of the game.  As evidenced by the fact there have been no blow out losses, I think we are closing in on realising potential, it is just  matter of working out the little things that make the difference.  Oh and of course having a ruckman back so we have more structure.

I have to say even our losses have been exciting this year, that alone is a huge improvement on last year.  When it all clicks, we are going to love what we see

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
