Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

where does Hannan play in that scenario assuming you want to play Watts forward

Playing Salem and/or Hunt as a primary defender is potentially limiting our two main attacking weapons

Personally I don't know what the answer is but we certainly need to get more out of our bottom six (whoever they are)!

yeah I dunno. we might be going too tall then also with the Macs, Frost etc.

could play Watts/Hannan HHF. Watts playing ruck means he is around the ground anyway

maybe Hogan for OMac

This is a good point.  Anyone who played against Richmond on Monday then the VFL this weekend needs to be judged accordingly.  Harmes might be the only one though.

Right now I'd have Harmes in ahead of JKH, but not ANB.

If Hogan is available, resting Petracca might be an option to allow his knee to come good.

Some sense here. If Truck is quite sore it might well prove prudent to rest him.

Our bottom 6 are travelling 1st class on economy tickets at present. This area needs attention.

The gifting of scoring to opposition often starts with one of them.

Don't know about anyone else, but I felt physically uncomfortable reading this until the word "six" appeared at the end.

Harmes had 22 touches and 11 tackles for Casey. Given the importance seeming to be placed on that, and the fact he was backing up after 4 days of the Richmond game, I would be very surprised if he isn't recalled.

I still think he was stiff to be dropped in the first place.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see Stretch straight back in.

Thry seemed to rotate Harmes and Stretch out for fresher bodies, and wouldn't be surprised if they do the same with ANB, JKH or other bottom 5-10 players this week.

Currently...who are able to play and have played

No particular order:

ANB  JKH Harmes, OMac , Melksham, Weideman

Would like to find a spot for Stretch. Hard at the moment.

Only change to be Hogan if he wants to play. Otherwise no change.

I think Stretcher will come in. Seemed more like a rest week than a demotion anyway.

He also played very well vs the Hawks last season.  His run and spread gave them problems.

Thanks for rising to the challenge. My 6, made up of players who have played one or more games this year, in no particular order would be: JKH, Harmes, O McDonald, Weideman, Hannan and Tim Smith. I've excluded Joel Smith on the basis that 18 minutes (or whatever it was) of one game isn't enough. And I realise that I'm being pretty tough on Tim Smith, too.

On the plus side, that bottom six looks better than the top six in 2013.

To beat the Hawks we need 3 things:

Speed

Pressure (x10)

less silly errors.

lets see how they all pull up, but I would only make changes to enhance one of these three things, injuries aside.  (Excepting Hogan, of course).  That means maybe stretch gets a look-in, if he was rested for a freshen up.  Otherwise, a few guys need to kick the door down for a spot via Casey.

true, and i've not got a clue why (unless he was just defending players after a win)

A bit of that. He seems protective.

Really though his mentioning of Harris was very general. I actually heard something approaching a soft backhander in there. Goody immediately goes on to mention there are OTHER small fwds ...that might be looked at.

Anyone drawing too much of a rap for JKH might be drawing the bow a tad hard !!

Hogan coming in could see Watts and Pedersen sharing the ruck job and then Tom McDonald playing CHB and taking a defender out of the team.

But I think the more likely thing to happen is regardless of whether Hogan comes in or not they play 8 defenders and let Tom McDonald play the sweeping ruck role and Pedersen the half forward/ruck role.

Melksham, ANB, JKH and Bugg remain under pressure for spots in my mind but I don't think there will be big changes. It's important to note these are probably 4 of the fittest 10 guys at the club. They are getting games for a reason.

I'd bring Stretch straight back in for ANB and use the spare mids through half forward more.

Another week for Harmes, Kennedy, Kent and Wagner in the VFL most likely.

Tyson is our 22nd best player at the minute considering he is still playing.

Another average game both by foot and in his inability to consistently impact throughout the game.

We're carrying him atm.

That is simply rubbish

who played better yesterday? Tyson, or JKH?

29 disposals, sure he buggered up a couple of times. Surely, play Kent for JKH. More change if Higan can play

Goody is the one who decides

Close the topic, Goody is the one who decided so there is absolutely no point talking about changes.

Generally like your work Saty but comments like this are the reason people jump down your throat.  We understand that it is the coaching panel that decides who plays and who doesn't, you do know we do not think we are the ones deciding the team don't you? Many people here believe that JKH has been poor the last 2 weeks, and there are some like yourself that think he has played his role.  You said Goody singled out Jay, I do not know I have not seen the presser, but he will not openly state that he was poor and will be dropped would he?  Lets crush his confidence before dropping him to the 2's, wouldn't be wise would it.

I know you have more information than most, including myself, as you ask questions first hand, doesn't mean you know the inner thinkings of the coaching staff, the true feelings towards players KPI's so in a way you are doing the same thing we are doing here, guessing.

I know you love this club with everything you have but blind faith can sometimes well, blind you from the blatantly obvious.

I am not having a go, as I stated I generally like your work and passion for the club, so please do not take offense, just constructive criticisms, I hope.

I would like to see JKH get an extended run in the seniors, but not if he is underperforming, I hope those days are over.

So...

In: Hogan if ready if not BenKen

Out: JKH

This is what I think will happen, doesn't mean I agree with it.

Kent goes missing when the team is not playing well. His 2 way running needs to be worked on and he knows it. Not sure you are right with the "too many runs on the board" comment.

I was stunned he was dropped. Misses much of the preseason then actually dominated for two quarters v strong Geelong opposition. Missed a couple of shots but kicked one great goal. Was his defensive play v Freo bad?

if he doesn't offer more than JKH I'm v surprised

I know this thread would be made redundant if this happens, but I just can't see how people can be so certain about particular outs most weeks.  We have no idea what "role" they are being asked to play, and even if they seem to have a low possession game, or whatever other indicators we use for ourself, it's the KPIs that the coached set that will determine if a player stays in or not.

Just like my views of Kent's performance on the weekend.  I thought he was quite poor, but he may well have met/done what the coaches were asking of him.

My take is that Kent is still considered best 22, but he is getting a similar wake up call to the one Watts received in preseason.

I agree it seems odd. But who else? I can't see how Hogan comes in for a midfielder or a defender. Which, in effect, leaves Petracca, Watts, Pedersen, Hannan, Garlett and JKH. It doesn't seem right structurally for Garlett or JKH to go out for Hogan (although JKH could be replaced by Stretch) which leaves Hannan as the "least desired" of the others.

Goody just could end up being the "experimental structure king" of the year

Probably not but as we all know the media was on his back again pre season about his fitness which cant have been too bad given his rucking duties of late.

The problem with JKH is that he never had a decent run in the seniors. I will withhold judgement for a while. I'd like to seem him string about six games in a row. Jetta was in the same predicament for several seasons.

In his sixth consecutive game in 2015 he picked up 6 disposals with 85% T.O.G.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
