Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He was bloody good last year too so aside from his weight things haven't changed that much, just opportunities.

Some players don't keep structures and wander around on their own. Coaches hate that. That's what I mean by uncoachable. Got no idea if its true.

Have heard the same of players like Langford from Hawthorn. Goes in hard but runs to the wrong spots and is often repsonsible for a strucure breaking down. A major issue for Clarkson..

Nice little read.

Sheds even more light on the benefits of having McCartney around. He sounds like a brilliant developmental coach and the players love him.

Was just about to post the same link. His comments about where the club is now compared to 5 years ago is chalk and cheese. Great to see we've finally entered the era of professionalism, kicking and screaming, albeit a couple of decades late

What an interesting comment: "The game of football is 120 minutes, and I might only get the ball in my hand for a minute, so what am I doing for the other 119 minutes? What can I do to help a teammate?"

Isnt it funny, even though you may have played the game, watched it for years that is a great insight! you may only have direct influence on the pill for 1 minute in 120m of a game. What you doing the rest of it.

It's true and it's noticeable when a team is playing well, that it feels like every player is involved in some way, not just the ones with the ball or in the immediate vicinity. It's the player making an unrewarded lead to the right place to create place, the player giving a shepherd, the player chasing without necessarily impacting the ball carrier, the bodywork off the ball to give the potential marker a better chance.

I noticed in one passage of play on the weekend when Adelaide had a chain of marks just outside our forward fifty, three times in a row our players made it to the player marking, not quickly enough to spoil, but just in time to lay a little bump after the player disposed of it. The third kick was off-target and the ball turned over. It's those little things that add up, physically (make them earn every kick) and mentally (perceived pressure that eventually causes a fumble or turnover).

Luckily we seem to have players willing to go those extra few steps more often, Pedersen included.

In the four games since his return, Pedo has kicked 7.3 (second in avg. p/g behind Jeff and Jesse - and has proven himself a very reliable set-shot), averaged nearly 17 disposals - (8 contested/3.25 clearances), 4.75 marks (1.5 inside-50), and 4.5 tackles. Big pat on the back. He weighs about the same as Jack Watts (and is a decent amount shorter) and deserves just as much credit for going in and getting smashed and keeping at it.

He has to stay in when maxy comes back, leave watts forward and have pedo and maxy play forward/ruck combo, can always chuck watts in ruck for 5 minutes if we feel he needs to get into the game a bit

Agree with that.

This forward line will look so much more potent and reliable than the one vs North:

HF Watts    Pedersen/Gawn     Petracca

F   Hannan     Hogan                 Garlett

Weideman to not return until next year at the earliest.

In a perfect world, Gawn is back and Pedo takes Weiderman's role as a 2nd/3rd forward with Watts and obviously Hogan.

He's in career best form and offers far more than Weed at the moment, who is just a developing kid.

Pedo must stay in the side when Maxy is back.

Interesting article on the herald sun website. Gee he has had a few people give it to him over his career. Todd giving it to him and Im a bit surprised that he turned up to pre season this year a bit over weight. Glad to see he got himself back into shape and is playing some good footy.

Cam has surprised many - his intensity and his pressure and second (and third+) efforts have lifted the team.

Not the most talented on our list, most would agree,  but this year in particular has shown himself to be one of the hardest working and courageous of our rapidly developing midfield.

I've have always maintained that we are a much better side with Pedo in the line up. This will only be enhanced once Gawny and Hoges come back in2 the line up.

I'm definitely going to join the chorus of D-landers saying he should definitely be the one to take the second ruck/forward post when Gawn is back. Watts is a forward and plays his best footy when patrolling the forward arc and delivering on a silver dime for others.

Weids has a great future ahead of him, but no need to push him. Let him develop without pressure to perform and let him grow into his body.

Agree, except that I'd love to see Watts just play where he's needed. Delivering into the forward line, coming off the backline, on a wing... Put him where he's needed. I love that Gawn comes back and we get basically 4 players playing where they should be. Watts, Pedo, TMac, Frost... not to mention the knock on effect for guys like Garlett and others who now have talls to nip around the heels of.

He didn't come back overweight, when he re signed, it was as a  big bodied player, he was told that, similar to what he had been, then the goalposts were moved on him and he responded, excellent coaching I would say

You cannot seriously STILL be peddling this line? He admits he came back overweight. The club has said he came back overweight. Why on earth do you think you know better than the people directly involved?!

He didn't say any such thing, I had a good conversation with him, so prefer what he told me, care factor what you think NIL

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
