Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Very, very sad.  Very, very sad for the young man.  He has had a lot on his young shoulders.  Hopefully, people will back off on him and recent performances.

Hope Jesse got there in the last few days.  A tough time awaits him.  Hope he takes all the time he needs.  Football matters not in these circumstances.

Edit:  A very moving update: Jesse's family were in Melbourne for the ANZAC Eve game and his father passed away in Melbourne.  "The family had been in Melbourne for several weeks and Tony saw his son play on Monday night against Richmond, before Tony took a bad turn on Anzac Day". http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/jesse-hogans-father-tony-passes-away-20170427-gvtg9p.html  Wonderful support by the club to keep that quiet so the family could enjoy some time without cameras and journos all over the place.

Very tough. Makes all this stupid coverage about him smoking and dancing seem so damn trivial. Even that article had to mention him smoking. ffs.

Sad but that is the media driven world we live in praha

So sad to lose your father at any time, particularly at such a young age and when you're on the other side of the country. Hope Jesse and his family can get through this miserable time, I have no doubt the club will allow him the time he needs.

Grief is an individual thing. Not only are we different but in the end its how the griever deals with their loss. Always tough to lose a parent.

It's his and the club's call.

RIP.

And the footy media and all the tools that panned him can all go jump. A number of media outlets owe him an apology.

As do a few people on this site.

I was 31, Gorg.  Was 15 months after I was married, and 10 months before my wife gave birth to our first child.  You can imagine the roller coaster of emotions in that 2 year period!

Jesse will do what Jesse thinks is right.  None of us are to judge how he handles this.  I look forward to welcoming him back to the club at some stage in the future.

While we should never use grief as a motivator, I hope this does give the boys a little bit more to play for this weekend.

I hope the club (and I'm sure they will) will give him all the time he needs, I just hope they make it clear he isnt letting anyone at the club down if he needs multiple weeks off.

I'd say take as much or as little time as needed. As BB said, grief is an individual thing - some find having something else to focus on helps.

By the way, I'm proud of the way the club has handled this in recent times. It's been obvious in recent times that Jesse has been up to his neck in it - a few on here failed dismally at reading between the lines and panned the club over letting him go to Perth - but ultimately the message was always one of absolute support, without ever exposing the public to the details of what was going on. I have no doubt Jesse will get the support he needs from the club - this is what good clubs are about.

Not to mention a few on here in the smoking thread.

Does anyone know if he was able to be in Perth to say his final goodbyes?  Having been in a similar situation when my father passed, I was fortunate enough to have some notice as to his deteriorating condition and was able to drive from Sydney to Canberra to be with him during his last hours. I hope Jesse was able to do the same.

The Age story says that Jesse's father was in Melbourne when he passed away.

So sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with Jesse and his family. I lost my mum almost a year ago to cancer and it was the worse thing I had ever been though.

RIP ??

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
