Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melksham the new whipping boy. I must admit I have not noticed him being participant bad or good in any games so far. Not sure what he is supposed to bring to the team speed? Skill? aggression? a good boxer apparently

I think you have stated the problem in your own comment  BM.

" Or good in any games"

On a fast track Jobe and some of his crew might be struggling after 1/2 time and cooked by 3/4 time

If we're evens or in front atp. We'll have them.

Essendon is [censored] but their forward line delivers. They get no inside 50s but have very good efficiency when going forward. Melbourne is the opposite. We need to start converting otherwise this "fast style" Goodwin promoted in the pre-season is to the detriment not benefit of the side.

I wonder if something 'creative' with the ruck role would be to designate a ruckman for each zone eg Frost/TMac back of centre.  Watts/Pedersen forward of centre.  Maybe Pedersen to take the centre bounce to leave the others free to do their primary role.

This would wear out Bellchambers as he would have to run all over the ground.  Its Bellchambers' first game in 18 months and he would not be used to the pace of the game so the more we can wear him out the more even the game becomes.  Creating a lot of stoppages will also help wear him out.

I hope not. If Bellchambers pushes forward who will be on him? Frost takes him? So who covers Frost's man?

If he pushes back then Watts takes him? So Watts' man runs around all loosey goosey like Rance last week?

No thank you.

Worsfold might have thought of strengthening his advantage in the ruck but he's decided to rest Leuenberger & bring in Bellchambers ... interesting move.

Bellchambers is not one of the premier ruckman obviously but nevertheless, we can't afford to let him get super high numbers in terms of tap-outs.  When he has been the main-man his hit-out totals have hovered between low to high 20's.

You'd take that number right now (mid 20's) and if we can limit the damage, we can no doubt win.  The combo we come up with to do the rucking and how we use that combo is anyone's guess.

I reckon it's less of an advantage for them with Leuenberger not playing.

Different roles.

Dear lord.

Why can't more people see this, bing?  Whoever gets dropped is compared to Melksham, even though they don't even come remotely close to playing the same roles.  Harmes has been playing forward, Stretch on a wing.  Neither play back which is where Melksham is.

Great thought LH, that could confuse and unsettle them whilst spreading the load on our guys.

I liked Nashers idea of quarter by quarter designated ruck, but this allows guys to also do their roles, as mentioned

I agree, but on the basis that we can move it quickly enough.  If the Bombers slow us down and get back in numbers then they'll force us to bomb it long and it will make things difficult for us.  We need at least one tall down there who can compete in the air for us, otherwise Hurley, Brown etc will just take uncontested marks all day long.  The pressure and our ability to move the ball quickly will see us either kick a winning score or we will spend the afternoon frustrated by our long bombs that go nowhere.

The small forwards will need to run, run, run and spread to give options.  Totally agree the "kick it long" supporters will be frustrated.

Not optimistic but this fixture has been the least predictable in the AFL this past decade (2013 being the dishonourable exception). They are taking the opportunity to rest several players so that in itself may be a sign they are chalking this one up already. Break even in the midfield, who knows what will happen, we beat this mob with Col Garland as a forward no reason why we can't do this again.

...maybe because Col is out for the year

Pedersen and Watts were the only two who seemed to be rucking today.

Expect some chop outs from others very occasionally.

Not really sure where the 'play Tom McDonald in the ruck' came from, but it doesn't seem likely, unless it's for a moment or two during the match.

IF he can hit his best form, and IF he runs with Daniher all day, then he will have to do some ruck work.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
