Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tyson may have become a victim of himself, he burst onto the scene for us in his first year 2014 & really hasn't matched that form consistently. We have seen him dominate games here & there but I'd have thought by his 4th season with us he would be pushing to A grade status, injuries have not helpt. I still think he'll be a good player for the football club

I'm certain the absence of a pre season is a very big deal for a midfielder. More so than, eg, for Hibberd as a defender.

but in any event, how could one think of dropping him after yesterday. Watched the replay closely. He buggered up a couple of times but he got the ball a lot and in the second half was a real powerhouse.. He has  has a good kicking action--he will regain his accuracy.

Is Dom...is ....ok...not Good, not bad

He seemed a little less rusty yesterday and worked himself into usefulness as the game went on.  ( I'm dismissing the first half...as it was an abomination to the senses )

Im in the camp that thinks his interrupted preseason wont do him any great favour this year. If he can be serviceable  and remain injury free  am looking forward to a much better version next season. What is..is... He's a little out of sorts presently.

I just think he has a bit of the yips or lacking some confidence at the moment, normally a very good player and if you see him at Training he is one of our classiest players next to Watts and Salem.

When he is on he is kicking goals as well, after yesterday's second half I came away thinking he isn't far away from it.

Seems to have lost all the penetration in his kicking.

Two examples yesterday were his two shots on goal, one from a set shot and one on the run. They both were horrible shanks and barely made the distance, let alone accuracy.

I suspect injuries are hampering him, because he has never been this bad with his kicking. Some of his kicks this year have been diabolical!

I dont really understand this, whilst he does have his limitations as all players do, his ability to find the footy but also find space is pretty vital to our side. Not only this, but we do not really have any player waiting in the wings that can play this midfield role as well as he does. Trengove, Maynard and Brayshaw are the three who are possibly waitining in the wings and an inform Brayshaw would definitely apply the most pressure, but alas he is not there yet and has not put up consistent VFL numbers yet.

And 2 votes from the coaches, so his work didn't go unnoticed by the football astute.

Spot on Tim.  I watched the replay last night and I always find it interesting after reading peoples views on the game.

Dom actually hardly made a mistake and got the ball 29 times with less than 80% game time.  I thought he was very good.  Tom got it a lot and did miss a number of kicks but the positives well out weighted the negatives.  As I've mentioned before, I'm a big fan of players who can get it.  Both these players do.

I'm guilty of typecasting players but when I see my evaluation is significantly different from respected commentators and particularly the coaches I question my judgement.  Time for the Tom and Dom knockers to do the same.

Absolute reason, Vogon Poetry. Those knockers will only see what they want to see though, and never let reality get in the way of a good whinge. It's the reason why clubs have match selection committees rather than a single selector. Imagine how the team would differ if we each got a go at being sole selector. The list would be halved for starters.

So am I. We've had enough players with apparently superior disposal skills which were hardly on show because they couldn't actually get the ball. Ideally you want players who can do both (Lewis, Hibberd, etc) but I'm prepared to put up with the occasional error in disposal from a player who gets a lot of it. It's when the errant disposal numbers get too high that it becomes a problem for the team. Right now, Weideman has lovely disposal but doesn't get it enough; Harmes gets plenty but his poor to good disposal ratio is too high. So, both find themselves out of the team.

Just thought I’d bump a Tyson thread due to significant negative commentary he is getting at the moment.

Personally, I have been a fan always in the past and feel he is a best 22 player with his good work in close being underdone by the occasional shank off the boot. Every player shanks kicks during the game but his seem to be noticed more at present.

His first year he played as a pure inside mid and it was beautiful. Second in the B & F, 11 Brownlow votes and nearly a goal a game.

He now sits on a wing looking completely lost where his weaknesses (pace, spread and field kicking) are exposed majorly.

I get super frustrated with Harmes as a player always fumbling, especially in the midfield. Tyson should be back there with Harmes on the outside/flank but the coaches see differently. He needs to be in the guts imo.

With this in mind, does anyone else keep him in the 22 on the wing, playing another role or do more people see him behind Brayshaw, Harmes, Salem, Petracca and Hannan who role through the midfield more now and drop him to the twos?

Yes Tyson is an inside mid, but as you concede has poor disposal both by foot and hand. He is also quite slow, both physically and mentally, taking too long to decide his best option. That said his best footy for us has been as an inside mid and playing away from there has exposed his deficiencies.

Harmes is not a mid let alone an inside mid and plays his best footy as a small lead up forward who can apply strong pressure on the opposition defenders.

IMO they are both being played out of position and we are therefore not getting the best out of them.

Another player in the same boat is Salem, who is also not an inside mid, but rather an outside player with great delivery skill. He is ok off the back flank where he can get room and would probably be even better on a wing.

Lastly, I am still trying to work out why Tom Mc was on a wing for some time in the second quarter. It seemed stupid.

By far the most frustrating player on the list for me. I would’ve traded him 2 years ago.

I can count the games I’ve been impressed by him on 2 fingers.

Brock McLean would push him over 50 even now. Takes an eternity to make a decision, thinks he’s Pendlebury in traffic, he’s more Koschitzke, gets caught. Probably doesn’t matter because he wouldn’t hit the target anyway.

The sooner he’s pushed out the better.

Apart from the above I’m a huge fan.

Tyson is a good player, that's why he is valuable as a trade option. He has limitations with speed etc, and outside work is so so.

He is very good inside with hands, spotting targets, but we, I think, are going to go past him in not too distant future, with others who offer more across the field.

We need options for trade to improve the team list. We can't rely solely on drafting kids.

It's time for a couple of free agents, to help spread the load on-field.

Tyson I see as one possible trade option.  We can't hang-on to all of them.

We are now at a point where we have better inside mids. The problem is Tyson does not appear to have the versatility to play other roles unlike Salem or Harmes. His lack of speed on the spread and slowness of execution are shown up in a connecting role. The coach clearly does not see him in our inside mid plans as even without Petracca and Viney he showed a preference for Harmes and Brayshaw in the middle. I feel the only thing maintaining him a spot on a wing is we don't currently have an outside runner pushing for the spot on the wing so he is the next best option.

I reckon we might try and trade him to get cap room for Gaff.

We'll see.

Oscar Baker might shake Tyson's spot up a little, when he gets going?

I really dont get the Tyson hate. Our midfield looks more assured with him in the side and is different to our other midfielders.

The game slows down for him and finds space where there is none.

I reckon he is a poor (albeit very poor) mans scott pendulbury.

Thanks Roosy.

Our midfield is better with him in there atmo.  He improved us, but this won't last, as we will move past needing him, maybe even as soon as this season.

Salem hopefully, and Hunt as well, will shake Tyson from the team, as Viney pushes back in, and Spargo will be around for a little while, before he goes back to Casey.

I can see Tyson's time is limited with us.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
