Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gees we have rotten luck as a club!

We are Jinxed when you consider the injuries to our early picks Brayshaw,Petracca ...How many teams have lost 2 ruck men  in a season?

I'm only interested in beating Essendon ... lose to the Bombers and our season could be shot.

I'm also quite convinced that many here don't rate ruck work or taps to advantage.  All this talk of not needing a proper ruckman is utter nonsense.

We've just found out the hard way with 3 consecutive losses largely brought about by not having a decent ruckman in operation (Sandilands slaughtered Spencer in the ruck last week)

How much proof needs to be offered?

Pedersen & Watts sharing the ruck duties won't work.  Talk of throwing T-Mac, Frost or suchlike into the ruck won't work either - we'd be robbing Peter to pay Paul regardless.

As they say in management parlance.... King's inclusion would be "sub-optimal" but it is the right choice. We need a nullifying ruckman.

Dare I say it we also need to adapt the game plan to a lack of ruck dominance.

Surprised that there has only been limited discussion re Declan Keilty for some role.

plus they brought in vardy as well as petrie and already had giles on their list - however, they knew that nic nat was unlikely to play all year as he recovers from his acl and i seem to remember lycett was crocked at the end of 2016 as well

our biggest list management issue is that we're still carrying players who are / were, in all likelihood, unlikely to play senior games in 2017

This is what I reckon will happen and what I would trial- T-Mac into the ruck, O-Mac back in and Pederson forward. JKH I expect will play as I suspect Goodwin will focus more on what he did without the ball first game back (7 tackles) than some of the horrors he committed with it. Assuming those that were lame get up but Bugg next one up if they dont:

Out: Spencer, Smith, Tyson

In: Pederson, O-Mac, Lewis

Agree on JKH, I hate the idea of bringing players in for 1 game and then dropping them unless they break team rules. JKH got better as the game progressed and 7 tackles shows intent.

Immediate outs:  Smith and Spencer

Under injury cloud:  Petracca, Viney

Immediate in:  Jordan Lewis, Bugg (performance at VFL Level)

Other immediate options:  Pederson, Weids, O-Mac, Kennedy, Trengove, Kent

Risky selections: King.  White, Kielty (need more time)

So, the selection panel will need to consider a few things:  1) what the hell do we do in the ruck?  2) what should our best forward structure look like? 3) How do we add skill and talent to the helter skelter the team offers 4) who needs a rest?

Lets see how the team pulls up, but I can see 4-5 changes this week.  Essensystematicdrugcheats should be gettable, even with the injury list we currently carry

You see what you want to see I guess. Love Nev as much as the next wo/man, but is he damaging enough once he gets it? You look at what Hibberd and Hunt did tonight and wonder if the modern game hasn't gone past the role of a primarily defensive HBF.

I actually think Jetta has a great attacking game. It wasn't on display last night, agree, but I don't see his ability to get forward or link up in play to be a weakness in his game.

He saves us goals on a weekly basis and that alone is worth his spot in the side.

As for outs, who knows. Lots of injuries and sore bodies, and couple that with a 6 day break after a game in the wet.

Bugg, Pedersen and Lewis to start with, possibly another 1 or 2.

Huge 5 games before the bye now. Injuries mounting and we need to win at least 3 of them.

True, but we're playing Essendon who will be coming off a 5 day break after, possibly, a game in the wet. So I don't think we'll need to make a stack of unforced changes just for that reason.

But how will King be able to "nullify" Leuenberger when he is 200cm and 99kg and hasn't played a full VFL game?

He's obviously the tallest option we have but I don't think that is sufficient to warrant putting him in the middle and Leuenberger driving his knee/body into him at every opportunity. I don't see that option as being any more effective or "optimal" than Frost, TMac, Pedersen or even Watts.

Whatever we go with, it's not going to be ideal, but I don't see how throwing King's development out the window at a time when we otherwise wouldn't be close to discussing his suitability for AFL football is any better than the other options.

All 22 players showed intent last night, so I'm not sure it's enough for JKH to hold his spot for doing what everyone else was doing.

Yes, the 7 tackles is good, but IMO when added to the mistakes and the general lack of influence elsewhere means he was a net loss to the side. The injuries may well mean he gets another crack and if so, let's hope he builds on last night, but if we had a fresh list I don't think tackles alone is enough.

I'm pretty surprised by the criticism of Alex Neal bullen, he's still learning but he's finding the ball, running hard both ways and his defensive efforts are fantastic

he is probably our best midfielder defensively and finds the ball as well, I think we need to persist and back him in To be able to clean up the mistakes and become more dangerous.

Harmes to me just always like a fraction off the pace of AFL

Everyone always remembers the mistakes how about the good things he done for example hitting petracca up in traffic for a goal plus another 3 score involvements, he had 6 turnovers from 21 disposals, that's not great but I think the good slightly out weighs the bad, everyone carries on how good dusty Martin is he had 32 disposals but 10 of those were turnovers running at 35% de, I don't think ANB Deserves to be dropped on what he has shown this year has been 1 of our best players imo

It'd be handy if could eliminate his brain fades ie the kick to O Mac a few weeks ago or the" I can't believe a professional footballer was that stupid" deliberate out of bounds last night.

Hopefully Trac is ok for next week. Kent comes in if he's injured.

Neal-Bullen and JKH combined for 16 tackles. To the dismay of many, neither will be dropped. I wouldn't mind seeing JKH play a few matches before I make a call on whether he belongs in the team.

Personally, I would like to see minimal changes (injuries pending). I want Goody to back the same team to perform against the Bombers just to show them that we can win by playing this style of football. Yes there were some inexcusable errors by seasoned players, but we won't go far if there's four to five changes every week.

Pedersen has gone from being the chief whipping-boy to the saviour yet his actual output is still negligible.  Goodwin will pick him now but previously, he's not done that.  He is not a ruckman in the sense that he's below average at the art of rucking.  The stats and our eyes bear that out.

Here's how I see things playing out if we use Pedersen & Watts in tandem in the ruck ...

  • Leuenberger gets 60 tap-outs with at least 20 of those taps to advantage
  • Pedersen & Watts get about 20 taps between them with very few to advantage
  • The Bombers win the clearances especially so in the 2nd half
  • They win the game.

So King is coming off an ACL - big deal.  Gawn did 2 of those as a youngster.  Mitch is back playing footy in a position that is very physical ... and he got 26 tap-outs on the weekend.  I'd admit that he's not be the ideal choice but what alternatives do we have? (see above)

And if someone wants to paint a better picture, go right ahead.

Or if they really want a 200cm ruck to keep our structure would they punt on King off one VFL game

In: Lewis, King

Out: Spencer, Smith

We need cohesion, so the less changes the better.

This makes the most sense so far. Playing King would be a massive gamble and surely won't happen. I'd like Frost to ruck more

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
