Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If you're looking for someone to drop for Lewis, I could name about 18 players who go before Jetta.

You see what you want to see I guess. Love Nev as much as the next wo/man, but is he damaging enough once he gets it? You look at what Hibberd and Hunt did tonight and wonder if the modern game hasn't gone past the role of a primarily defensive HBF.

I'm not sure we have the depth but Tyson must be on thin ice, he's almost as slow and ineffective as Trengove these days.

His decision making is hurting is. Why doesn't he attack? I don't have an issue with his pace but when you couple it with slow incorrect decisions you look very ordinary.

I'm no Melksham fan - never wanted him in the first place & am often looking for negatives in his game - but I thought he put his head over the ball and his body on the line tonight. The no tackle stat surprises me. I thought he cracked in.

He also managed equal most I50's.

basically i expect ... melksham has got to be dropped after another tackle-free performance...

If they're the criteria, then JKH keeps his place. 7 tackles, only beaten by two others (who plenty here also question as to why they're in the team in the first place): Harmes and ANB.

I agree, bring in a ruck to play the bulk of the ruck to maximise JW time in the forward line, where he should be.

Whichever way we look at it, it's a risk ... however, what is best for the team and the teams chances of winning takes precedence. That old saying that no one individual is bigger than the team sometimes means that an individual who may not necessarily be ready comes into the side to play a vital role.

I'm not big on stop-gaps - those things rarely work.

And all things on the field are connected - we're not getting the best value out of Watts.  He'd need to ruck even more than what he's doing now if Pedersen was the other ruckman.  And we'd lose in the ruck anyway.  Lose/lose

Our forward line needs more of Watts - not less.  He works well with Hogan too.

Nothing can be done now but the restrictive nature of the lists during the season needs to be addressed by the AFL.  Clubs should be able to bring in a few players to cover themselves if a high amount of injuries occur.

You have to feel for Jake.

Feel terrible for him, and the club. This was his big break. Ended up being a big break. Hopefully it's only a mid-range time out, and he can still come back and press claims.

I don't want to believe it, and I still love him as a player in certain conditions. But he's dropping down the must play list. I'm ok with mistakes here and there and frees against as long as effort and his tank are there... but he's having no impact on the contest. Usually he creates goals, and opportunities. He's not doing any of that now. Barely keeping up with the others.

Melksham has to go. 0 tackles, turned it over again and again. Just can't see what he brings.

In: Pedo, Lewis, Weid/Max King

Out: Smith, Spencer, Melksham

I'd like Kent to come back in, but he didn't exactly set the world on fire in the VFL. I think Goody will give JKH another chance.

I don't disagree with you but Jetta is also one of it not the smartest player on the list.

If we're trying to blast teams away, but are not converting our chances because of a structural disturbance, then it should be Defenders alternating in the ruck so that Hogan/Watts is always maintained. If Pederson is the main ruck, then Frost should be the alt. But if Sam Frost or Mitch King is the main ruck, then it should be Jordan Lewis that comes in and alternates with him, he has 3rd man up experience. Someone proposed that we just go in with midfielders instead, well Lewis probably fits the bill there. Starting to become a bit sadistic now after the opening five rounds and want to see Lewis or even Hogan put in some hard bruising yards.

Not disagreeing with you either (you go first, no you go first, no I insist, you go first, etc.), but surely the same could be said of Trengove.

Talk of trac missing as well. I know he played out the game. Can i just say next week we are coming up against daniher. U know the guy who manages to kick straight against us and the only time he does it.

Really? Last year he was clunking absolutely everything, but couldn't hit the side of a barn door. They would have won by 40 points if he had kicked straight.

Yes - unnecessarily snarky and partially a matter of hindsight.

Yawn. Did you just go have a search through that draft to find a better player picked after him?

As for outs, who knows. Lots of injuries and sore bodies, and couple that with a 6 day break after a game in the wet.

Bugg, Pedersen and Lewis to start with, possibly another 1 or 2.

Huge 5 games before the bye now. Injuries mounting and we need to win at least 3 of them.

Out: spencer, smith, petracca(if hurt)

in: Pederson, Lewis, bugg

petracca will have to wait and see same with spencer,  but being short week they might not come up, and need 100% fit players against bombers at etihad, I'm willing to give melksham 1 more he might have a point to prove against his old club

I'm quite aware of who went after JKH in the draft. There were a few teams interested in Brown. I've often wondered if we were one of them, and that if maybe we hastily abandoned our draft approach when JKH unexpectedly slid - be it with Brown or whoever else was intended. My post of course was borne of frustration - I really wish we had bothered to target a forward/ruck at some stage rather than recruit an undersized mid with limited pace.

First things first, time to promote Keilty off the rookie list.

IN: Bugg, Keilty, Lewis, Pedersen

OUT: Petracca, Smith, Spencer (all injured. SEN reckon trac will miss) Tyson (omitted)

Pederson & Keilty to share the ruck duties and spend some time deep. Watts to stay as a permanent forward. Tyson's omission is as much a horses for courses approach given Essendon's speed as it is one based on form. I actually wouldn't have any issue with him coming straight back in the following week. Melksham & JKH on very thin ice.

FB: Hibberd, T. McDonald, Jetta

HB: Hunt, Frost, Salem

C: Bugg, N. Jones, Lewis

HF: Harmes, Hogan, JKH

FF: Watts, Pedersen, Garlett

FOLL: Keilty, Oliver, Viney

INT: Melksham, Neal-Bullen, Stretch, Vince

EMERG: Kennedy, O. McDonald, Tyson

Let Kent & Weideman find some form in the VFL and on the track before earning a recall. And hopefully Melksham can finally find some form against his old team.

You realize someone down back actually needs to defend yes? Not everyone is a rebounding defender.

ANB has to go. His turn overs and lapses in concentration such as the silly kick off the ground and out on the full cost us goals.

Good Lord, John.  Horrible call.  He will never be our best player but he has shown terrific improvement this year and could become an important cog as a dependable foot soldier in the years to come.  Can find the footy and makes tackles that stick.  I won't disagree that he does make the odd mistake, and at the moment they stick out like a sore thumb, but he is doing far more right than wrong at the moment.

I agree.  Hunt and Hibberd provide the run, Jetta does the lock down role.  It's a good mix.

I said it on another post but if tackle-free Melksham plays I will know Goodwin is tanking.

He was good last night after being poor last week. His job is to stop his man, run hard to plug the defensive gaps and link up.  He did that and did it well.

Curious what you thought of Hibberd's zero tackle game last night?

I'd ruck TMac - he has the bulk for it and can run all day, he's done it before.

OMac into the backline with Frost and Hibberd.

Pedersen for Smith and he and Watts can both spell TMac.

Lewis for Melksham.

This is what I reckon will happen and what I would trial- T-Mac into the ruck, O-Mac back in and Pederson forward. JKH I expect will play as I suspect Goodwin will focus more on what he did without the ball first game back (7 tackles) than some of the horrors he committed with it. Assuming those that were lame get up but Bugg next one up if they dont:

Out: Spencer, Smith, Tyson

In: Pederson, O-Mac, Lewis

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
