Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Early days...but if you had to pick coach of the year right at this point he'd have to be it wouldnt he?

He'd be in the top 3. Him, Hardwick and Bolton would be the 3. We all know how Goody is going, Hardwick has gone some way in turning around the Tiger ship (they are 7-5, maybe 8-5 after today), and Bolton is doing wonders at the Blues this year.

I just can't rate Hardwick.

The only top 8 teams they have beaten are WCE and an undermanned and injured Demons.

But they have lost to other top 8 teams: Adel, WB, GWS, Freo (when they were in the 8), and an in inform Syd.  That is their 5 losses right there - downhill skiers!!

And lack of coaching has given them 3 losses in the dying seconds when their players didn't have a clue on how to win/defend.  Nope, not a good coaching record for mine.

Shock of shocks - 'Purple' Barrett just said on Ch 9 that Goodwin would have to be coach of the year so far.  Must have choked him to say that

None of my business, but good post.

Playing devil's advocate just for a second, I think it's worth pointing out that a lot of what we saw on the weekend was great because it worked. ANB and Hannan in (which noone saw coming) for round 1 was a great move. Took away Saints rebound. Round 8, made some fascinating and daring choices both at selection and on field. And you couldn't conceive of better results than what we got.... But... He made similar choices that didn't pan out earlier in the year. He copped it for JKH. Actually selecting him at all seemed left-field. And let's call a spade a spade. It didn't work.

I think so far he's had about as much good luck with these selections as he's had bad. What's great, as you say, is that he's making them. Putting himself on the line. That's great.

My area of concern is now NOT match day. In the breaks between quarters he's shown he can move the magnets around. Teams and opposition coaches are going to have a tough time countering him now, let alone the 22 he fields.

The thing I'm keen to see unfold is how he teaches players. Roos was amazing with teaching kids. He made a good defense out of no name players. He did it so well that now Collingwood's best defender by a mile is a guy we didn't really feel like paying to keep. Goodie has come in, and it's clear to many he's focussed on attack, run, handball, and defensive forwards. I think he's largely left the defense as it was under Roosy. After all, you would, wouldn't you.

I want to see what happens in 3 years when Roos' impact is lessened or completely gone. He might have even worked through a handful of defensive coordinators like the NFL do. Maybe he overcompensates by trading our next two first rounders for Lever, or something like that. In any case, until that happens, we won't know whether this gem we have will offer the sustained good stuff that a Clarko does. I'm pumped. MFC has never been more intriguing to watch.

We have McCartney who is exceptional at this.

It would be interesting to know what Stuey Dew thinks of the situation given he was apparently offered the reigns but knocked it back. He could have been the senior coach at the moment of a finals bound team rather than still being an assistant

Not sure where you are getting this from?

Dew was offered the job but the Swans wouldn't release him from his contract to become an assistant coach to Roos. They would have had been offered a senior coaching role.

He's doing a great job so far, but I'd still say the title of leagues best coach remains with the guy who has won 4 flags.

Goody is making great head way though and hopefully he can get to that level one day!

Clarkson has never won coach of the year. Travesty.

Its not the way I remember it. I thought in the end it was Dews call and "family reasons" was essentially a "no" dressed up to not dis us or Roos too badly. I think he may well be regretting a missed oppurtunity...but we should be counting our lucky stars with Goodwin.

Tis as JnrMac relays.

Swans seriously has nose out of joint. Refused to release Dew... despite a gentleman's agreement across clubs to release assistants to a senior role.

Probably why Roos likes the Dees a bit more than Sydney im guessing.

Paul Roos said this was the case himself in an interview, when they were discussing dew for another vic role and roosy said family circumstances prevented him joining the dees so unless they had changed he wouldn't be likely

Yes Macca is the unsung hero of the revival. Roos and Goodwin have been huge, but I'd assume Macca has been equal to these guys in terms of player development, instilling confidence and contested ball craft.

I watched Brendan last week and for the first time probably actually realised what he actually does on the boundary. I mean I have seen him talk to players during the breaks but at one stage while the game was going on he was actually directing and speaking to Dom Tyson about what he should be doing.  he really is a teacher.

Brisbane Times

Sydney have blocked Paul Roos' bid to anoint his former Swans assistant Stuart Dew as his coach-in-waiting at Melbourne, refusing to release Dew from his contract.

Roos' latest attempt to plunder his old club has prompted the intervention of Swans chief executive Andrew Ireland, who communicated the club's determination to hold on to Dew to Melbourne counterpart Peter Jackson.

The unusual nature of Melbourne's coaching structure means a senior assistant appointed under Roos will be guaranteed the senior coaching position as early as 2016 or 2017 at the latest.

Roos and Jackson argued that Dew should remain subject to the AFL coaching environment's ''gentlemen's agreement'' which allows assistant coaches to be released from their contracts for a senior role. Leon Cameron was released from Hawthorn on that basis at the end of last season even though he was not immediately becoming a senior coach but had been promised the job in writing for next year.

The Swans begged to differ where Dew was concerned, leaving Hawthorn assistant Adam Simpson, departing Swans assistant Leigh Tudor and West Coast assistant Scott Burns firmly in the frame to work under Roos before almost certainly replacing him.

Good get.

It would be interesting to know Dew’s thoughts on this now considering he is still the midfield coach at the Swans whereas the bloke, in what would have been his job, is about to coach a finals side.

I made a pretty decent grog bet with a Collingwood supporter over that one. They thought I was mad and made it in a heart beat. I'm thinking the odds are better than 50/50 in my favour right now

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
