Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why not play Jack Watts in that defensive role. Much better than O'mac and Frost.

I remember people saying he won the ball so easily as a loose defender. He never was, just read the play so easily.

Stupid suggestion.

Watts is finally dominating up forward and keeping us in games.

Leave him forward.

Yep Watts needs to stay forward. He's our most dangerous forward and one of our best players again this year. He's finally found his position up forward and rotating for stints in the ruck and is flourishing. He always plays well against Richmond too. This time last year Rance king-hit him because he simply couldn't beat Jack any other way. Not the first time Watts has given Rance trouble either. Expecting another big game from Watts, he's superb. With both he and Hogan up forward, Richmonds mediocre defense will struggle!

No, he was played as the loose player in defence, essentially in the 'quarterback' role.

So far Trengove and Pedersen are putting up their hands going by the 1st Qtr of the VFL game.

Pedersen is doing some ruckwork.

I wouldn't read too much into hearing his name.  That tends to happen when you're following the ball around.

His also kicked more goals then Weiderman has in the past two games in just a quarter of footy

So it's a no brainer to bring him in for the Weeds

No.  No, it's not.  Weideman will be better with Hogan back and flies for high balls far better than Pedersen.  And hopefully he won't be on one leg like he was in the first quarter.

Pedersen kicking a goal at VFL means absolutely nothing.  Nothing at all.

Pedersen is a limited battler, who I hope has played his last game at AFL level.

playing weideman is effectively playing a man short.   to prove what?   he's proved he's not ready for afl.   let him develop a bit more at casey

I like the idea of Pederson and Watts both giving Spencer the chop out. Keeps things moving, creates unpredictability and freshness. Throwing Hogan into the midfield every now and then would also challenge the flexibility of their defenders.

Im not sure Weiderman allows us to change the dynamics of our forward line if things aren't panning out.

I would go with just hogan and watts as the tall forwards, tigers like the cats I think struggle to defend the smalls and we play better when we lower our eyes

out weideman, bugg

in: Trengove, hibberd

So, going by stats alone and without a report from those who were there, you would suggest that Trengove, Kennedy and Brayshaw haven't done themselves any harm.  It's also good to see Corey Maynard progressing nicely as well, although I doubt he'll come into calculations.

Pedersen clearly did well also, but will he get a gig with Hogan set to come back as well?

I still think Hibberd gets another week at Casey, even though I would love to see him play next weekend.

When Hogan played in rounds 1 and 2 Weideman averaged 10.5 disposals, 3.5 marks and 1.5 goals.  I'll take that with the structure he provides and the high balls he flies for.  That's a 30 goal season on averages. Who wouldn't take that ?

Since Hogan has been gone in rounds 3 and 4 those numbers have plummeted.  He's far better when Hogan has the heat of the opposition and he's not the main key forward.  Why drop him when he's carried the load and Hogan is about to come back ?

As for Pedersen ?  I don't rate him as an AFL key forward.  He's done OK at times, but he's not the answer or the future.

Pedersen has never kicked four goals in a game.  He's played 61 of them.  Forgive me if I don't see him as the answer.

Seemingly, Goodwin doesn't either.

Jesse for Weed. The only certainty for me.

Hibberd needs another week before he's ready from the looks of today. The idea of him and Jordy down back makes our defence look a lot better, so lets not rush it.

Ben Ken for Hannan might be interesting. His defensive pressure up forward at times last year was great.

Your dislike of Pedersen is as strong as your love for Morton early on.

I don't dislike Pedersen.  He's just not the answer.

Morton lots of talent, heart of a grape seed, which is hard to know from the outside.

He was skinny and translucent enough that we still should have been able to pick it up from an external examination.

Right now he's the answer.

Weideman and O. McDonald could very well form a strong spine for five years but right now neither should be playing in the AFL.

In the case of Weideman we have a more than adequate replacement in Pedersen available.

Surprised people are giving Hibberd another week. From what I saw of the game today his kicking off half back was great. Unless we'd like to handball in circles inviting the opposition to take it off us and kick goals for another week, he comes in.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
