Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Its amazing how some are still not taking the tiges seriously. The problem we'll have is trying to contain their small forwards in Castagna Rioli Butler and Martin when he rest down there. Our defense has been shitouse this year so i can see us leaking goals out the back to these guys. We just seriously need to tighten for gods sake. Riewoldt is a star. I wish i had faith in Tom McDonald but his form this year has been poor. Do we back Frost in and maybe give him a go?

Midfield of Nankervis  Martin Cotchin Prestia Caddy Grigg Vlaustin won't be easy at all. You give Martin a sniff and he'll tear us apart. Goody needs to be fair dinkum and put a tag with him. Mitch Robinson completely shut him out tonight and did a fantastic job. Give Vince the job.. He is bust down back and bernie plays his best footy when hes an aggressive midfielder tagger. This game is also where id love to see Tracca spend some quality minutes in there. His last Qtr was quite good when he went in there so lets start to use his explosiveness and smarts in the midfield.

Hogan vs Rance, Watts vs Ashbury. Hogan owes us big time. I expect him to come out and dominate Rance.. There are no excuses, hes fresh and ready to go. Watts is in fine form so i expect him to also get the job done and kick a couple. Kent really needs to step up here. His speed and power is what makes our forward line potent because when he is up and going him and Garlett can really cause headaches up forward.

Viney Tyson McDonald and Vince need to seriously lift if we are any chance of winning. They are experienced players that have been in poor form this year. For us to move forward we needd these guys up and firing.

Youre right DD,  that small brigade has given the Tiges a whole new dimension.

Not sold on them just yet (after all they are Richmond and cant be trusted) but they are in red hot form no doubt. If we roll them our seasons well and truly back on track.

I'm not taking Richmond that seriously yet because they've beaten Carlton, Collingwood, Brisbane and West Coast in the rain. That looks like three bottom 6 teams and whilst West Coast is a quality opponent they got them in the rain and we know West Coast is at least 5 goals worse on the road.

Having said that, you're right, they have quality players across each line and they're getting goals out of far more than just Riewoldt as has been the case in recent years. But as is always the case, we can't just rely on our back six stopping their forward six. We need to apply consistent pressure through the middle on their premier ball carriers. Letting Martin, Cotchin and Prestia do what they want will lead to us conceding basic goals.

I still favour our forward line (with Hogan) over their backline so, as is often the case, much of this game comes down to the midfield.

From what I saw of the game Frost looked far better than O. McDonald.

Hardly, but I'm sure your comment will appease by the Oscar knockers on this site.

We have a big problem in defence and need to sort it by next season, nothing we can do this season except try and kick a bigger sore than our opponents.

Sorry rjay but Frost wasn't "hardly" better, he was significantly better. No worse defensively (i.e. no worse with body positioning or one-on-one stuff) and much, much better offensively. Rusty, that's for sure, and he's no Alex Rance, but an improvement on OMac (btw, I'm a long-term OMac fan. I think he'll make it. But right now Frost is a better option for that spot).

Having said that, our defensive issues are not the back six individuals. They are team structures and pressure up the ground. The third quarter was on the half-forwards and midfielders for failing to apply enough pressure, allowing Fremantle to move the ball with ease.

Out. Hannan, Weiderman, (ANB)

in. Hogan, Pedersen, (Brayshaw)

not sure about dropping ANB but he makes the most stupid decisions that costs us goals. I'd only drop him if Angus plays a good game. We need more from experienced players and Pedo is needed as the versatile player who can play anywhere until all our injured and suspended players return. I'd give Bugg one more week to prove himself.

If you can't see the difference Frost had instead of the nervous fumbling blind Oscar, you just straight up don't watch the game.. and most likely yell "kick it long" & "ball" every minute!

IN -

If they play out the match tomorrow OK, Pedersen and Hibberd, failing that Oscar and then keep Weidemann.

Better of Brayshaw and Trengrove tomorrow.

OUT -

Melksham - he started the year quite well.  Gee, if the ball is coming straight at your throat you should grab it in your sleep.

Bugg - his stats are reasonable but in front of the members several times, he appeared to have what Sherlock Holmes would call a two-pipe problem.  He would benefit playing as an onballer (is this still a thing?) and making quick decisions.

Weidemann out if Pedersen is fit.

Keep Frost and Hannan who were were passable.  Keep then until someone at Casey impresses with pace and clean disposal.

Vince should moved forward so the guys have more time to cover his stuff-ups.

People calling for Melksham to be replaced need to realise this week we need to cover three decent quick small for the Tigers, no use saying out Melksham in Pederson etc, they ain't going to play on butler or Rioli.

You got it Gorgoroth.

imo there will be one change .

 Hogan  for Weideman.

No-one would argue if Weideman was sent back to Casey, but he'll be better with Hogan in the team and I reckon Hogan would prefer Weideman next to him.

I won't be surprised if Weideman retains his position.

Tiges have improved and Castagna, Rioli and Butler have made them more dangerous, but they're still bog ordinary.

Most teams are.   Bog ordinary teams will make the 8 this year.   We're bog ordinary, but we have far more upside than most.

Weid defeninantly better with Hogan in the side but i think he was injured in the first 1/4 Saturday. I think he will be out injured not omitted.

Anyone have any info on how Hibberd and Pedo are tracking form and fitness wise? If they're struggling at Casey do we really want to bring them in to the seniors?

Beginning to think it will be Hogan for Weid and maybe Brayshaw for Hannah or ANB

Why can't Trenners play the role of Vanders, both hard at it ,good over head and Trenners is a bloody smart player who is a good set shot. We have plenty of leg speed in the forward line, need more smart footballers. Anyway went to the Rich game last night, for a team that hasn't won a final for 20 yrs they are playing like millionaire's ,  don't give dusty anyspace, tighten the screws on their young forwards ( they looked like they were at training at times) Hogan will kick 5 and we win by 30.

I'm not sure this is the way they will go, but I never am. I think ProDee's point has merit - perhaps a change in the mix of players will be help Weid - I saw him as the only tall target a number of times. He's still too slight to win in those pack splitting situations - that's what Hogan is for - but I think we look better when we have two viable marking targets.

The alternative is just Hogan for Weideman. I think the one change is enough - there's a few hanging on my the skin of their teeth though. This is where the late start to the VFL season is a pain. Players like Brayshaw who have been left out to work on things haven't had the chance to actually work on any of it.

Today's game will tell us a little more about how they are tracking.  I'd love Hibberd to play next week but you get the feeling that they won't rush him back in too early, especially with the Tigers mid and small forwards causing havoc for the opposition at the moment.  We don't want Hibberd blowing up half way through the third term.

There are spots up for grabs, though, and hopefully there are more than a few at Casey who put their hands up this afternoon.

Interesting the Essendon Chief Pharmacist aka Coach is saying the recovering druggies have hit the wall (isn't karma delicious)  - is this also Melksham 's problem? Frankly doesnt look up to it right now.

Hope they are all still in rehab when we meet them shortly.

I think we need to cut the Weed some slack.  It seems he had a heavy cork and was struggling to run.  He still attacks the contest and is not helped when the ball is sat on his head.  In saying that I still think getting his confidence up at Casey is not a bad idea.

In: The Hulk, Brayshaw, Hibbo and Pedo

Out: Weed, ANB, Melksham and Vince.

I too would have had Melksham out due form but with the 3 quicks they have im thinking maybe he stays in to do a long down role.

If Gus plays a blinder today then he comes in for Hannan. He adds more at half forward then Hannan does and also give us bit more class and edge to the midfield rotations.

I think Weed will have the weekend off. Has been going at it since JLT series and corkie will give the selectors an excuse to rest him.

Goodwin is slow to grasp the nettle.

Very well to get games into Omac,Smith,Hannan,Weedetc and looks progressive enough.

Frost ,Pedo and Spencer warranted selection before all of them.

His attempt to show up Jack Watts now looks infantile as does his promotion of Viney.

He could stamp his authority by keeping it more simple and trying less innovation and left field decisions. Its not about him.

Spencer warranted selection for the Geelong game.

Pedo warranted it before that.

Frost was picked late after Hogan went out .

I don't care about the players age and wish they were selected on merit only. The Pedo is on the list and should be used when needed.

We need marking power not more press conferences for debutantes.

Also looks like Weed and Melksham are getting games based on perception not reality - playing favourites is no good.

Keep it simple Simon.

Melksham has had zero impact.  I cannot recall one good piece of play or strong defensive acts in 4 games.  The only one of all the returning players to be consistent so far is Ryder at Port.

This does not bode well for Hibberd coming in and having a real impact especially with a recent injury.

I would like to see Hibberd in (when ready) but we can't afford two players who have 'hit the wall' in our backline (or anywhere on the ground).  If Hibberd is in then Melksham should be out.

My fear is that Melksham and Hibberd were both 'Captain's calls' (Goodwin said recently that Roos let him make the list management decisions) and Goodwin will feel compelled to play them and they become protected species.

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
