Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He wasn't good, but he won't retire. That's a bit of a stupid thing to say given he got us the win round 1. He wasn't supposed to even play since his surgery.

I still have him in the side. I'd get rod of Melksham first. Hibberd in.

If he keeps playing the way he did today then why should he be kept on the list next year? This isn't about this one game today. Its been going since midway through last year where his form has dropped.

He looks cooked and slow. As i have mentioned just before once Brayshaw Wagner Smith and Hibberd are all up and firing then questions will be asked of Bernies place in the team. The first 2 names i have mentioned are future players and if he is holding one of them back then its a big worry.

He will be 32 next year and won't be getting any younger.

His got a big 18 weeks coming up.

Just like Melksham it's only injuries to Hibberd, Wagner and J Smith as well as Lewis' suspension that is keeping him in the side.

Good effort to get up and play today but another ordinary performance covered with the dreadful stench of a player on the way out who instead of contributing as a leader is making rookie mistakes.

Probably get rid of Melksham first but the next week when Lewis is back it might be Vince's turn to have a run at Casey.

Far too premature and an overly emotional response I feel. Bernie still offers value, Look at the continued costly misses for goal and a few very dubious umpiring decisions. Bernie did not cost us the game! Our unforced errors and inability to curtail Fyfe, Mundy and Neal certainly did!

I thought Goodwin was outcoached by Ross Lyon today!

It wasn't an emotional response pickett. Im repeating myself here but his form has been like this for the past 8 months. I have always loved Vince but for a experienced campaigner he just coffs it up far too oftern down back.

And moving him up the ground will just move the turnovers up the ground. That kick inside 50 with the game on the line was absolutely disgusting. Not even Neal the Butcher Bullen would bomb in from there.

Well Dazzle I would like to see the stats that back it up but Gee he was excellent in the first game average last week and average today but as I suggested I was told he wasn't anywhere near fit with his toe, but no excuse once you are out there..........!

I hope these indescretions, Hogan, Lewis, suspensions and brain fades and incorrect options not to mention shocking kicking for goals don'y cost us at the end of the season?? Maybe already it will! and has

Question is if Smith and Wagner come back firing mid year along with Hibberd then where does that leave Vince?

I'm a Bernie fan but watching the last quarter again on replay I seriously doubt he could have done much more wrong.

It wasn't just the last 2 minutes. It was a 20 minute horror stretch. Missed marks, turnovers, poor positioning. You name it.

Smith will be lucky to get back to playing AFL this year. Wagner should hopefully get a clean run soon.

There will always be more injuries and Bernie will have some value on the wing, midfield or forward if need be. Either way the plan should be to get him an end worth playing for by making finals. But he has to contribute to that.

I said before I'd leave him in and fix the Milkshake problem first but the reality might be it could be better to fix Bernie sooner rather than later as well. A week off or lower grade to get him comfortable making decisions or comfortable with his nasty toe injury might be in line sooner rather than later.

It seems to be that whenever the game's in the ballance & the pressure's at its peak, Bernie just finds a way to manufacture something that's just unnecessary or dumb... especially for someone who's a multiple best & fairest winner & that has also displayed such great kicking skills over time.

Key word - manufacture.

Doesn't seem to handle the pressure well at all down back.

Hibberd & Lewis down back will help us release him to a wing, maybe?

And release Melksham to Casey too.

I'd hate to say it and you never want to pin someone down for a loss, but there's something to this. Bernie is not quick, too cute and just not as much of a piercing kick anymore. What he offers or is meant to offer is the experienced head (currently down back). These were moments that needed that experience, bang it down the line with that trusty roosting kick, out it at very least into space in forward 50 instead of blazing down their throat.

For an experienced head he did not seem too sharp today. Not the only one of course but the game need him to show it.

As I've said in other threads, that sprayed inside 50 kick by Vince with less than a min to go was simply dumb football. Made no attempt to spot up a teammate. Could've sealed the game. That will be the no 1 blooper on his tapes this week. For an experienced veteran in a team desperate for leadership and a cool head, that to me says he's near the end.

Loved his efforts in the year he won the Bluey, but I'm looking forward to a time when he cannot get a game. Leg speed going, decision making slipping... the end not far away.

This isn't about this one game today.

He looks cooked and slow.

Because it's not about how he played today. You jump on a players back routinely after 1 bad game. He was BOG round 1 and then missed a game. Take the whole picture into account.

Exactly. So why are you claiming it's all about how he played today? You can't have it both ways.

Cooked? no. Still looks useful to me, and smart. Slow? Yes, and sore. I still don't think he's fit, but we don't have solid defenders with good kicking skills to put back there at the moment til Hibberd comes back. And frankly Melksham isn't showing me any reason to believe he's going to be a 100 game super player at the club. So Vince it is.

Saying he won't be on the list next year is stupid. The same as hating on TMac. He would walk straight into any list in the league. And without him we'd give up another 6 goals a week to KP forwards. But every poor disposal he creates is met by you with vitriol. Even if the preceeding 20 plays were goal savers. I'm just saying look bigger picture. The guys you want back in the side, sure... I'd like to see Brayshaw back in too, but he looks slower and more cooked than Bernie does at his worst. Right now the club is trying to win games... not blood youth.

Of course he'll stay down back due to injuries. But once those guys get back from injuries then where does that leave Bernie? up forward? Surely not..

I don't see how me saying he won't be on the list next year due to poor form is stupid. 32 next year with fresh recruits and more further development of Wagner and Smith.

And i don't agree with you about wanting to win games instead of blooding youth. Otherwise Weidemen and Hannan wouldn't be playing at all. Goody will reward whoever is in good form in the VFL.

Hes not a backman, should be used as a tagger like he did for portions of 2014 and 2015 when he shut down some big names and hurt them the other way.  Clearly remember him beating Pendlebury twice in the one season.

Roos coached his own way both those years and had him playing ripping footy.

Goody has a fair bit more input 2016 and Bernie is playing down back.

Coincidence? who knows. But clearly his best footy was playing as an agressive midfielder.

If it was up to me id have him tagging Martin but its now obvious Goody doesn't bother with tagging star players so thats out the window already.

He really wasn't BOG, though some Demonlanders insisted he was. Clearly, Oliver and Jones were. Bernie managed some good kick ins that wallpapered his turn overs and defensive frailties.

As a couple of us have been saying for a while, Bernie routinely delivers clangers that are simply inexplicable and inexcusable for an experienced player, let alone a leader.

He did the exact same thing in the Gold Coast game last year (Lucky it didn't cost us the victory). I don't get why he's playing so deep in defence, he can't really shut a man down, he's pretty much there to play loose man, but he can't even get that many possessions.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
