Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well Dwayne Russell called him Ollie about 4 times in round 1. So just call him anything that starts with O I guess.

Hope you bounce back back from the 2's, Othello.

I was taking the [censored] about the name, mate. I don't care what he's called, although I'm with WB in that I hadn't heard him referred to as Ozzie before.

So how many takeaways did he create? Did they have that stat or not? Because if they didn't, they should have if they were going to use this as a segment. It has legs as a way of examining efficiency. I hate the DE stat and the turnover stat, as this topic would suggest, is misleading.

I think they got off OZZIE ;) pretty quick just because Oz does enough lamenting and congratulating of the demons mid week. Pretty much as soon as they explained he'd only had 3 turnovers, they went onto the more statistically valid examples.

Yeah fair enough on the stat. What are your feelings on him in general then? Not using that stat...

Let's all remember how awesome a last 5-6 games he had last year when the team was pushing for a finals spot and he won a Rising Star nom.

I don't know if as Melbourne fans it's our tendency to overstate bad games and performances on a team and player level, but seriously, we crucify players and act like they're the reason we lose games. We are just like Richmond supporters in that sense. Utterly brutal, especially on young players. We almost ruined Watts. We fueled the media criticism. Ox I have no doubt just goes with the bandwagon and sees the game in a really shallow way. Oscar isn't great, but we absolutely need to back him in purely on the back of him performing so well in arguably the club's most pivotal moment of the past decade.

Halfway through last season we went through the same thing. He'd played maybe 10 games. I and a few others supported him and he turned it around, and the very people saying now, "See I told you he was garbage!" were at the time saying "Colour me impressed!"

An old footy cliche: it's a marathon, not a sprint. Oscar is pivotal to our long term plans.

So who is Oz now? This thread is confusing. I wonder what Wonners is up to nowadays.

I find his intensity at times to be lacking and he loses concentration during key moments, but I'm a fan. Would like to see more upper body strength, but that will come, as will the decision-making and other standards.

I agree though that a little bit of time down at VFL level won't necessarily do him any harm. I'm certainly not in the Steve camp. I think he'll be a player.

I think most of the people on here who are saying some negative things about Oscar, myself included, can see he is a decent prospect long term. That doesn't mean he isn't frustrating in the short term. I see him and Weid as very similar at the moment. Oscar is completely lacking in intensity at the contest and is losing far more contests than he should due to his current lack of strength. Seeing him get pushed around by guys 10-15cms shorter and 5-10kgs lighter is frustrating. I think he reads the ball ok, and although he has a few deer in headlight moments he is generally a decent kick of the ball, more reliable than his older brother in that regard. There is enough there to suggest he is a decent long term prospect, but right now, in the present, he is not playing at the required level IMO.

Weid is similar. At present he is not having an impact on game and isn't getting involved enough. I'd have dropped him before Oscar based on form. 4 touches in a game is not good enough no matter what position you are playing. Long term though, you can see he has the attributes to be a good player. He launches at the ball in the air better than anyone else in the team, he just isn't sticking many of them yet. He's also a good disposer of the ball by both hand and foot and brings his team mates into the game when he can. He needs to get to more contests, and once he gets fitter he'll be able to do that and have more of an impact.

The frustration comes in that we can see they could be good players long term, but right now they're not strong enough or fit enough and are just getting pushed around and not having an impact. With injuries/suspensions there aren't other to cover their absence so they are being played when they probably shouldn't be, which isn't entirely their fault. Hopefully with time both will become good players. I'm very sure Weid will, I'm fairly sure Oscar will also.

3 weeks ago I was still thinking he'll be a T-Hizzle clone, since he's related to him. I think he's a better kick though... Isn't as big and not as quick. He was so good last year 1 on 1 for his level of experience, so I was excited to see him improve, but he's certainly not done that yet. These first few games have shown me to look for him to become a different type of player to his brother. Which could be a good thing, perhaps. Good to see others aren't quite as down on him though.

Yeah sensible post. I think my only query would be if we counted up the amount that claim he'll never be good enough (as opposed to saying he'll take time), we might be surprised. But then, this isn't a post defending him, TBH. Just interested in some views.

If you mean "big" as in height, he's taller than TMac, but if you mean weight, yeah, Tom is heavier. I'd agree on the rest though.

I think Oscar struggled in the St Kilda game, did well in the Carlton game and struggled last week - I thought our defence, with the exception of Jetta was really poor though.

Very interesting to see him dropped nevertheless. That was a bit left field. Didn't think Goody would drop him, but that's good to see. Would be fascinating to get a reason why. I may have answered it myself, but that's tough.

I like Frost though as well, so looking forward to seeing what he can do this weekend. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take a few rucking contests either.

Yup I did mean heavier.

Yeah I'm loving Goody's selections so far. I have a lot of time for Bugg, and I'm loving his selections that commit to a team plan. Noone saw Hannan and ANB coming round 1, and that was inspired.

I am absolutely NOT a Frost fan. Having said that, with Garland hurt he'll be important. And yes... I'm in the camp that wants Watts deep forward or spreading off HB. Noone sets us up better, besides maybe Lewis. We lose nothing by having Frost as the backup ruck in terms of the taps themselves.

Different strokes for different folks. I'm not a Bugg fan at all, but I also like Goody's selections, so I'll back him in this week.

I really dislike this topic. Why are we using  North American sporting terminology to "analyse" Australian Rules Football? I 've had enough of the words offence and defence. And some bozos are using the word quarterback when analysing games!!We play an Australian game so lets not Americanise it.

Right on homey.

Totally dig .

When I listened it must've been before or after Omac. The stats I heard were about the top performers in terms of turnovers per disposal. Impressively we had two of the top 5 or 6 with Stretch about 3rd and Oliver 5th or 6th. Stretch doesn't surprise me from what I've seen this year but a great result for Oliver considering the pressure and contested nature of his disposals! The least turnovers were by the Bont with only 1 per 19 disposals.

He has shown some promise.Been fairly average to start the year.Out he goes- in comes Frost.

I'm keener on Frost as he was just starting to become a real gun.

Oscar can play at AFL level but needs work. All seems healthy.

Seems like the list has been organised so there are two players for eAch spot - which is just as well given injuries.

Forgive me for the potentially silly question, but who the hell is Ozzie?  Is it Oscar McDonald?

Apparently some at the Mfc saw Schartz's number plate when he played and wondered who theo x was. True story.

This topic is like a Seinfeld script, all about nothing, Mr Oscar McDonald's nickname amongst the players is Osc pronounced Osk by the way

What? Osk makes no sense at all. The players should just stick with Ozzie like literally everyone else calls him.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
