Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If it was for a pick in the late 20's, i'd do the trade.

You're probably not going to find a better prospect at whatever that pick may be in the draft, so why not. He clearly has talent, all be it he's a little fragile (and would still need a few years to develop, ala Weideman).

If we bring him in, we have 2 potentials to partner up with Hogan long-term, if both turn out to be good then we can always trade one out.

Balic is in a very similar situation, so for the price both of them will cost (not much), the potential payout is large.

Surplus to needs now, but could be the best get of all time in 2 years if/when

  • Pedo retires  (near certainty)
  • Hogan departs (Freo seem to already be working at this)
  • Weids doesn’t come on as hoped. (I think he will, but 50:50 according to many here)

with 2 of these 3 scenarios, it still pays off

with one of these scenarios, it creates competition and pressure for spots, and may expand or change roles - like defender or ruck/forward option.

One of our late second rounders and a used cotton bud should get it done.

This is why I say its a big yes. Puts pressure on Weid for a spot and one injury out of that lot and we are in a bit of strife.

From an Age Article by Caro.

The Brisbane view was that Richmond wooed Schache and in doing so contributed to his poor form and reduced commitment. This version also dictates that former Lions coach Justin Leppitsch stayed in touch with the player once he rejoined the Tigers as an assistant coach. Further there was an allegation that Richmond subsequently lowered Schache's trade stocks by passing on stories alluding to his fragility involving a first-hand experience after the Tigers interviewed him.

Richmond, in turn, angrily deny all of the above. The Tigers claim that while they interviewed Schache they lost serious interest in the player as an immediate prospect once he re-signed with the Lions. When Schache was offered around again, say the Tigers, their situation had changed. Nor were they prepared to consider the estimated minimum price tag, which, in a best-case scenario, would involve something with a three in front of it.

Richmond say Brisbane have only themselves to blame. That the club failed to adequately care for Schache's welfare in his first season and did not put enough thought into his living circumstances. Even the Lions would privately admit Schache was physically exhausted at the end of 2016 and he should have been managed more conservatively in a playing sense. Still back in year one he showed signs of being the dominant forward his No.2 draft placing suggested he would become.

This Article suggests misinformation from the Tigers has put other clubs off. Jonathan Brown sees a big future in the kid. Caro suggests that he could be traded for a pick in the 30's. To me that is a cheap gamble. I would take it and if it doesn't work move on. We are losing Watts and Pedo will be gone a year later. Weid might not make it and Jesse might leave in a year or two. He would be great insurance and could turn into a top 22 player anyway. It will be fascinating to see how this plays out and how he ends up in a few years.

You have my vote Mr. Leg.

True, but the Cats under these rules are required to have at least one 1st round pick this year, to which they don't have one at the moment.

The drafting rules brought in a few years ago will not be enforced for a few years yet methinks.

The AFL last year when questioned about the Cats said "Oh, that doesn't start until 2019"

Agreed, Weideman could be delisted after his next contract (next year?) Not saying he doesn't have time on his side but he's shown nothing to date to suggest he'll make it at the top level.

The Weed is contracted for 2 more years Gonz. Keeping my fingers crossed he will come good.

I had a bit to do with him at the bushies.. He is a very very talented prospect, but he's struggled living up there due to leaving his mother all of a sudden who's brought him up single handedly after the sad passing of his father. He was extremely home sick last year..

Probably the closest thing next to a Tom Lynch. Has that huge reach of arms that when given the opportunity and his confidence is up, he will just clunk em all day!

Also note that him and Clayton OLIVER are best friends and have been since primary school. I know it's not a factor but if he did come to the Dees then I personally think we'll see the best of him!

Trained at the Dees as part of his AIS program too, so Jason Taylor will already have a good insight into him.

A huge talent going cheap. Why haven't we traded for him yet?

I wonder if he can be developed as a key back.,..  playing alongside Lever.  I think he has the skill set, as opposed to Weideman who couldn't play as a backman.

Looks too slow on what I've seen (which I admit isn't that much) - can kick and ok marking the ball

Speed is the big question mark I think

Name me one power forward with decent speed? I can think of Buddy Franklin and thats where it stops..

Speed is a non issue for forwards. Just ask Josh Kennedy.

I think Josh Schache is still a MASSIVE talent and worth the risk!

Have a look at his highlights reel from back in 2015.

I really hope the Demons do offer the Lions a fair trade to get him to our club.

Being good friends with Clayton Oliver may help too?

The more talented forwards that the Demons have the better!

It may be showing my age but I remember the forward line of 1998 with Garry Lyon, David Schwarz and David Neitz as well as Jeff Farmer.

Imagine the 2018 forward line of Jesse Hogan, Sam Weideman and Josh Schache as well as Jeff Garlett?

Pretty impressive in my opinion!

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
