Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No, he's not coming to us.  I did however get an interesting snippet.

The guy who told me over a year ago that Richmond thought they had Prestia over the line is now saying that they are very heavily into Schache.  We're talking a Boyd-like deal.  This guy has been fairly accurate with his news in the past.

I hope not.

The competition really has nothing to gain from Brisbane being pillaged every year.  Schache is going to be a star and could anchor their forward line for a decade.

Agree but it's sadly reality now. (Pillaging Brisbane and these massive deals)

Wasn't an idea floated to make draftees stay a minimum 4 years oposed to the current 2?

They have to change it to protect poor clubs, at least for earlier draft picks. 2+1+1 contracts for draftees so clubs don't get stuck with a dud for 4 years if they draft a Lucas Cook.

That old inside word that the whole world already knows about.

Schache he is one of Oliver's best mates. Friends don't let friends go to Richmond.

If Schache ended up at Richmond, he helps them, but they need decent midfield reinforcements. They drop away steeply after Cotchin, Martin and Prestia.

This is a bit surprising. I read an interview prior to him being drafted where young Schache stated that he was keen to be drafted by Brisbane as his late father (Laurie ?) had played for the Bears. Subsequent interviews indicated he was thrilled with the draft outcome & the opportunity to build on his dad's legacy.

I hope he stays (unless of course he wants to come to the Demons because he looks like being a bloody good player)

So... the out of contract youngster goes into the draft without compo to Brisbane at a gazillion dollars which means he probably ends up elsewhere anyway or they deal with Richmond.

Sounds like what is going to happen to any lower club who cannot deliver the goods... money and success

Mind you the Boyd example was different... take the money and then chase the success... just so happened he got the early success as well

Fair call.

I don't expect Brisbane to be pillaged again. I think the last big raid of yeo, Aish, and Polec (maybe one more?) hurt them significantly but they are recovering now. Their brand of footy is looking much better this year, even when schache's not on field. It seems they have talented key players building up together and I would suspect Schache would  want to be a part of it.

I think they have turned a corner and look forward to testing their talent out against ours, hopefully by means of a slaughter and demoralisation.

I can recall Schache actually saying prior to him being drafted that he would love to go to Brisbane as he had some family ties there.  I wonder what's changed to have him potentially entertaining other offers?  I know the money would be huge, but he seemed to have a deeper connection than others to the club.

Speaking of Prestia, he is still not right and may never be. His training loads are being managed and there is an acknowledgement from the Tigers that he is still dealing with his injury problems.

O'Meara,  while getting  possessions, is basically avoiding kicking wherever possible. That is a clear sign that he also is not over his injury problems.

Rates himself very highly and his ego tells him he needs / deserves to be at a big Melbourne club.  95% gone.

If that is how he thinks he and Richmond deserve each other:  an inflated sense of entitlement; destined to wallow in mediocrity.

He should read Caroline Wilson's article cautioning players moving to "a club that invests so much hope and fanfare in one player" eg Gary Ablett/Josh Kelly: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/caroline-wilson-gary-ablett-a-cautionary-tale-for-josh-kelly-20170407-gvgele.html

Richmond's list is ordinary and ageing and they have an average coach.  Schache and his high priced contract will be a fine target for disgruntled tigers as they struggle in the middle of the ladder for years to come.  He better make sure he has shoulders as big as the ego your post suggests.

Hurt Collingwood significantly as well.

After articles yesterday outlining a 'low' contract offer to Schache, coupled with constant stories about huge money being thrown at him by Victorian clubs, he's just re-signed for two years with Fitzroy.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-08/lions-coup-josh-schache-signs-new-deal

Whilst this isn't MFC news, I must say I am glad to see that the Lions may have started turning a corner with their list.  There's no benefit to competition in having a basket case (previously the Melbourne Football Club) being pillaged every trade week.

Huge news for the Lions. I was sure he'd bail on them like most of their other kids the past few years. It's good they were able to retain a key one. Once one signs, usually others start to buy in. For the Lions sake, hopefully this is the start of their recovery.

I live in Brisbane and mix with a lot of Lions/Gabba  members. Apparently has tickets on himself and cracked a huge sad after being despatched to the twos (again).

I agree with those who say that two years is not long enough for the initial contract for draftees.  Makes it too easy for them to bail after the Club puts heaps into their development in those first two years.  (Read: Scully & Tom Boyd as two high profile examples.)

I'm pleased young Josh has stood by the Lions!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
