Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is the 'Lucifer' a reference to my good self?

In case it is, let me set the record straight.  I started the 'Fearless Football' thread and was not one of those that doubted the reporter.  In fact I relished the concept and welcomed the team standing for something rather than being considered irrelevant.

Even if the reference wasn't to my good self why signal out one poster when there were quite a few that were skeptical of the reporter.

Excellent.  You started the thread, which might be why I (incorrectly) remembered your contribution.

It was indeed @Macca.

Even now, I doubt he'll recant his comments given his last few posts on that thread.

Yes, there have been several.

Tim Barassi - had the talent and drive to be one of the greats but retired at age 22 to play tournament scrabble
Tim Alves - left under a shadow to play drums in the band at North Melbourne Grand Final Breakfasts
Tim Hardeman - underrated player. Holds the record for most behinds kicked in a half of footy
Tim Templeton - cruelled by injury. Starred in the movie of "The Club"
Tim Cattoggio - transferred from Carlton in a recruiting coup that ended up in court. Club legend.
Tim Tingay - after a stellar career, reached even greater heights as a male stripper

Not one Maverick has ever played a game for Melbourne. I know this because I'm currently unemployed. And I bet Tim Smith never thought he would be remarked upon for having a unique name.

Does anyone remember Kim Smith who played for the Dees in the mid 70's. He was a prolific goalkicker for Prahran in the old VFA, and was recruited by the Dees. Only lasted one season, before heading back to Prahran. Tim is following a similar path to Kim, but hopefully has a more distinguished career.

My memory of Kim Smith is in the goal square at the Punt Road end with him literally head and shoulders above the pack trying to reach across to the ball.  Great leap but not able to take position.  Would not be Robinson Crusoe at the past players.

The Bull should do well with his dash under the dome.  I would expect the guys to execute the new style best indoors but would not be game to say it.

We've already started doing this with Weideman. Reckon, we should try something a little different.

Tim Lane 1912  (work that Botox, Tim)

Tim Collins 1914 - 1915  (subject to correction by WJ)

Thank you Mr. Google

PS my favourite name is currently Ruggles on the Cats interchange bench.  Imagine the Cahoonas to select an actual cat.  This will seriously mess with the the minds of Goodwin et al.

Correct weight Steve. The only Tims to have previously played for Melbourne were actually born in the 19th Century.

The 6'6" forward Tim Lane (not to be confused with the excellent Age journo of the same name) from Ballarat was born on  22 February, 1888 and played 13 games (11 goals) in his only season - 1912.

He wore the number 15, was noted as the biggest player of his era and not surprisingly was described as a "high mark" (and "powerful kickist"). He was cleared to Carlton in early 1913 but never played a match for them.

Tim Collins was born 24 December 1889 and captained Hawthorn in the Metropolitan Junior Football Association before joining Melbourne in 1914. He wore the number 24 and played 20 games (20 goals) in his two seasons with the club before seriously injuring his knee in the second quarter of the Round 13, 1915 loss to Collingwood. Collins enlisted in the Australian Army in January 1916 and was transferred to France in November of that year, serving throughout the conflict before returning to Australia in 1919.

The club came close to fielding a couple of Tims who were born in the 20th Century before Tim Smith.

One was  skillful Tim McNeil from Norwood SA who was the club's selection #16 in the 1987 National Draft. McNeil never came to Melbourne and his career was curtailed by a serious achilles injury.

Tim Moreland, a centre half-forward from Shepparton was selection # 57 in the 1989 National Draft who played Under 19s and Reserves in 1990.

So yes, after 102 years, we finally have another Tim in the ranks of the red and blue.

Just happy to have someone in the side with a real nickname rather than just adding a 'y' to the surname.

Are you referring to Smithy?  (Would work ok now that Joely is out for a while)!

Just edit your original post to 'no Tim has played for the MFC..........in the past 100 years'. It is still a glorious stat.

Cheers for the advice fndee. Fixed.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
