Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Its an interesting comparison to Hibberd.   Lever currently isnt quite as good imho...not right atm.. He might become better but then we dont know what Pig's ceiling is either.

As a 'hypothetical" is Hogan was traded it would  definitely be for 2 first rounders  or equivalent at least. Lever isnt worth a Hogan so by that comparison Crows demand of 2 x1sts is just quietly between anyone and me.......a crock of shlt !!

He had a tough game in the GF, but so did many of his teammates.

The way we want to play will suit Lever superbly.  We play a zone defence and we need players who can actually zone off, support their teammates and effect either a spoil or a mark.  Lever is already one of the best in the competition at this.

We can still have Oscar, Frost and even T Mac playing the key defensive role with Lever roaming as a support player.  It will be absolutely invaluable and he will save us goals week after week.

I don't want to pay a steep price for him, but I'm confident that whatever we do pay he will pay back ten fold in the coming years.

Agree 100% with what your saying, he is going to be great for our club.

I know this topic was about value, but wouldnt Lever free up Hibberd to play up the ground too and on the wing for a longer period of matchtime? I cant see Hibbo as intercept marker and Lever as wing nor can i see Frost/Lever/Hib/Omac flying for a pack mark together. So bringing in Lever could be seen as a trade that fills two holes or three if TMAC plays forward, Hibberd and TMAC can also still play lock down intercept defenders if required.

Robert Walls in the Age:

Lever 5: Unable to breakaway from Jacob Townsend who hit him hard to cause fumbles.
Talia 2: Looked slow, gave no attack, just three disposals, probably his worst game of the season.
Brown 4: Good on Rioli early on but confidence shattered when outmarked by Dustin Martin in the second term.
Kelly 5: Solid in defence but no flow in second half as all Crow defenders lost their nerve to attack.
Laird 6: Great start but faded as game wore on.
Hartigan  4:  Solid but no attack, lost the dare to move the ball on quickly as game progressed.

Walls might've got Kelly and Lever confused. I rarely saw Lever fumbled. Got the ball knocked out of his hands and dropped a mark or two he could've taken but didn't fumble.

It's interesting they've chosen to single out that contest. I thought it was a clear free kick to Brown for a hold of the jumper.

Of course it was a clear free kick. Martin and Rance have become protected species who can do whatever they want. It's the star player rule and it's a good incentive for the Dees to get a couple of true superstars.

Lever will fit in well with us because he got shafted by the umps, just like we do most weeks!  Take a look at a replay of the big mark that Riewoldt took early in the game.  Lever's arm is being held by Townsend.  Meanwhile, at a critical time halfway through the second, umpire pings Jake for a very slight tug of the jumper after the ball has been spoiled, enabling Townsend to get a free and a goal.

Tigers were very good but just like the Doggies in the GF, got an absolute dream run from the umps when it counted.  How Betts didn't get a free in the goalsquare just before halftime for holding is beyond me.

Agree. The free lever 'gave away' right on the q time siren was incredibly soft. Didn't hurt them but geez. Meanwhile Saint Rance gets more protection than a la porchetta franchise

Yeah he does. But. We should inquire as to the availability of Nick Hayne (GWS). I would rate him as good a prospect as Lever. So we have more than one card to play here. Whether the club play it or not. But I would. As to Lever, he did ok today - below his best (but ok). Rance was important for Richmond, and Lever is miles ahead of Rance at this stage of his career. Lever is quality. The thing is, so is Haynes, and can we find other key position back man of quality - in order to make Adelaide believe we aren't do or die on this deal? We need to drive this price (picks wise) down.

Notice too that Rance plays on the weakest link - Jenkins. Talia had an absolute stinker, so Lever & Hartigan had to do a lot more than usual. Lever had to take Riewoldt far more than he'd like to.

For what its worth here is the crows defender's rating and comments from news.com (yes i know). Ratings out of ten in brackets

6. Jake Lever (4) — Unsuited to playing against the dynamic, small Tigers forward line. Exposed for pace at times and didn’t kick the ball particularly well.

8. Jake Kelly (4) — Appeared to be hampered by a hamstring issue and never made a mark on the game.

12. Daniel Talia (5) — Can’t really fault the key defender — unless you want to compare him to his opposite number in Rance?

15. Kyle Hartigan (3) — Filled his personal blooper reel at a furious rate early in the game before recovering slightly.

16. Luke Brown (5) — Did his job like he always does apart from one marking contest where he was left one-out on Martin.

29. Rory Laird (6) — In Adelaide’s best, but that wasn’t saying a lot in this game.

That truly is a load of bollocks. Talia was worst on the ground by a mile, but "can't really fault" him? That's probably because he rarely got to any contests so you could say he didn't make any mistakes with the ball. He threw the whole defence out because he couldn't keep up with Riewoldt and was useless on anybody else. I like Talia in general but I've never seen a worse defensive game in a granny, he played like he was as stoned as the hack who wrote this.

Also overrates Brown & underrates Kelly & Lever.

I think the most important thing to take from Richmond and the Doggies success is that 1 trade won't make us a premiership team from where we are now. It's about having the right game plan and a belief in that plan. We looked the real deal when we beat Suns, Pies, Doggies and Eagles. Injuries can be blamed, but it took us 12 rounds to look good enough to win the flag when we needed to be switched on from round 1 till the end.

I don't think Jake is worth 900k a year* sum, but once he wears our colours i'll back him to the end.

I get your point, but I think there's a big case for saying three trades won the Tiges the flag.

Thought they played massive overs for Prestia & Caddy, but those two allowed them to use Dusty & Cotchin to much more damaging effect. And Nankervis did just what they wanted him to do, not just at stoppages but around the ground too. He got to so many aerial contests.

If Jake lets us structure our defence much better, it allows the likes of Hibberd & Salem to play further up the ground. And as others have said, it allows T-Mac to play forward, and he suits our bomb-it-to-30m-from-goal forward game plan better than Watts or Weid or even Hogan.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-10-02/trade-winds-spoiler-in-dees-lever-swoop

Collingwood is poised to be a "spoiler" in the race for the star backman. Adelaide wants two first-round selections for the 21-year-old and the Magpies might be prepared to offer that up earlier than the Demons do".

No mention of Lever's preference or discussions with his management.  I believe the posters here who have said he will come to the Demons :) and I can't imagine his management entertaining offers at this late stage.

So, Coll are playing games?  Maybe force our hand to give Adelaide 'overs' and then we have less trade currency for other moves?  Don't trust them at Victoria Park.

It will get done. Always starts like this and gets sorted. Trade period is 7 days away so plenty of time.

Should not be allowed to use two first round picks on one player it's way too much. Stop being so greedy Adelaide.

They're losing a 21 year old gun, a player already touted as their next captain. I don't think they'll get their two first rounders but calling them greedy for that being their opening position is ridiculous. He was never going to come cheaply and as we all know, draft picks are a gamble.

What would you be asking for if a 21 year old Jack Viney had said "I want to move to SA"?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
