Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Great if he comes, but my god it all seems so hopeless right now. I feel like I've been seeing this sort of crap - new dawns, boom recruits, building - all my friggin life and all it ever comes down to is disappointment.

Dees aren't going to give up overs for this kid.

Tom Mitchell was traded for pick 14, omeara pick 10 and 2018 second round, hibberd pick 29, Lachie Henderson future first round pick, Prestia pick 6.

lever isn't better than any of the above.

melbournes first round pick this year should do the deal and at worst 2nd round next year.

im glad some of the posters here are not deciding the future of the club.

You are joking aren't you? The only better players are Mitchell and Hibberd and Hibbo is 5 or 6 years older.

Prestia and Henderson are average at best

Much of the dialogue on this thread has 'saviour' written all over it and the salivating is a bit OTT!

He plays his role very well but he isn't the major cog in the Crows defence.  So I'm not sure he is a Key Position Player.  He might be one day but not right now.  Will he be the defender we need to play on Brown, Daniher, Moore, Hipwood etc?  I am a little cautious in assuming he will be.

TBH I am skeptical of the $850K being bandied around.  That is the sort of money paid to a match winner and I don't see Lever being a match winner.  Don't get me wrong.  I am glad we are chasing him.  But I hope we don't pay overs in $ to him or trade value to Crows.

Agree completely, I do think Lever would automatically make OMac and Tmac better players, and also make Hibberd even more dangerous. OMac and TMac wouldn't get caught in no-mans land as often as they do if we have a reliable 3rd tall who sticks more-or-less to the back half. We all know both the Macs do have a tendency to run down the field a little, not that that's always bad but doing it with Lever in the team carries so much less risk than say Frost who again can run forward with little regard to who's left behind - makes for exciting play but can also make us too easy to score against on the rebound. Hopefully then OMac and TMac combined can take care of those taller forwards.

Tbh. Im curious how Lever fits in if folk are wanting to keep the Backend as it is. I don't see how that works.

Something/someone gives. Surely

I'd see Lever playing the role Frost should have until he became a bit lost in the last half dozen games or so. My backline would be below:

Jetta OMac Lever

Hunt TMac Hibberd

That means TMac stays back, which I think he is better suited too anyway, and if during a game we need to switch things up he can always go forward for a cameo or 2. Lewis, Salem, Jones and maybe Vince (but I don't like him down there) would then rotate through when the others are either having a break or have moved down the ground. Lever and Lewis would be in charge of organsing the backline, with hopefully one of TMac or OMac picking up the skills to do that (alongside Lever) once Lewis is gone. One of the mids to go back to take the kick ins - in no circumstances are TMac or OMac ever to do it again.

people do realise that lever isn't a great kick right? Frost/Lever/Both Mcdonalds/Vince...scare the bejeezus out of me!

Lever is a much more reliable kick than any of our key defenders and his decision making is what sets him apart.

Yeh, I saw the turnover he made in the dying stages of the game against West Coast but that was an anomaly.

Generally, he is a very composed player with ball in hand and gives to the right option either by hand or by foot. His decision making, awareness and general footballing smarts are way above Frost and both McDonalds.

It's part of the reason he went so high in the draft. And part of the reason both McDonald's and Frost went so low in the draft is because they have major flaws in their game. And all of those flaws are to do with decision making and ball use. Oscar is the only one who actually possesses a decent kicking action and execution. But other areas of his game are truly below AFL standard.

We need high end talent in our key defensive stocks.

That's perfect. We can get TMac to mentor him.

Its a win win!

REMOVED ONE PARAGRAPH

We need high end talent in our key defensive stocks.

He may have good disposal /decision making skills, but wait until we put him under the microscope of Demonland requiring nothing less than perfect in 23/23 games. Then he will be tested especially when he made mistake while playing for Crows.

Lever is 22 and already plays at an incredibly high standard throughout games.

Which is why a fluffed kick here and there is not put under the microscope. The same can be said for Hibberd. He was missing a lot of kicks on the weekend that he usually hits but it everything else he does is at such a high level.

The same can't be said for many other players. Tyson, Tom McDonald, Oscar. The list goes on.

Caught about 2 minutes of Sen this morning with Kb and another person, can't remember who. Lever was discussed briefly with the generally jist being the "mail" that Collingwood being in the mix was incorrect, however bulldogs staff allegedly think they're a chance. The overall feeling I got was Melbourne still in the box seat. Probably nothing that hasn't been speculated already.

It was KB with Brian Waldron which contradicts what Waldron was saying last week that his mail was that Lever was heading to Collingwood

All the talk at the moment is that it's btw Dees and Footscray; Crows would prefer he went to Pies cos they're prepared to give up pick 6, but Lever's preference is Melbourne

The $$ have been pushed up by Footscray's offer, as to whether or not we are matching that valuation is another matter

I was told yesterday it's a "done deal" but we shall see

Is he a key defender or 3rd tall?

I see him as a Rivers type, floating back/across to intercept the ball. Be that as it may, we don't have a decent one of those (nor would i say that we have a good 1v1 KPD). Given there are no "good" 1v1 defenders on the market atm, i'd be happy to bring him in.

You never turn down the chance to land a quality player. I'd also be going hell for leather for Tom Lynch (who comes off contract next year) - Him and Hogan up forward would be supremely better than Hogan, Watts and Weideman.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
