Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3

Will be interesting to see how they line up in the middle. Bernie to get first crack at Danger? or maybe they will put him on Selwood at the start.

I would give Harmes a crack at running with Selwood first off. if he does the job it would give us a couple of quality free runners.

Brayshaw just looks a little off the pace, I am very confident he'll find some form and break back in pretty quickly but I really like the changes, Kent brings speed which the cats seem to struggle to contain up forward. Vince is a good swap for Lewis and smith will give a contest all day

he's been dropped, not listed as injured.

he'll have a run around at vfl level and get his hands on the pill and no doubt work on his ball use in order to force his way back in.

There's no match for Casey this weekend, practise matches have finished, and opening VFL game is on Easter Monday.

Not ideal for him, regardless of why he's out.

For what it's worth (and I don't think it's worth much), Nathan Brown on SEN just said Melbourne 40+ at $13 is the week's best bet. He said Melbourne will win and win comfortably. Told the guys, "I know you're going to laugh at me, and I know they don't have Hogan and Lewis, but they're going to win, and they're going to win well."

That might be the first time I've heard a bookie talk like that about Melbourne in about 15 years.

EDIT: And just like that it's slashed $3 off the price, down to $10.

Just used the powerplay on Sportsbet & got 17-1.

Sensible changes.  Brayshaw is lacking a little form and Kent plays the half forward role better, so it makes sense.  Not worried about Gus in the slightest - you can't be in form for your entire career.  Hopefully he'll get some game time in the midfield in the coming weeks and play himself back into some form.

Excited to see Smith and Bernie is the no brainer.  Now we just need to smash the Cats!

Round 1 does start this weekend, however, round 1 is split.

The only match this weekend in Port Melb v Northern Blues, the rest of the games are next weekend.

I don't know who thought that would be a good idea.

I see Bull Smith forcing the Weid to start holding his marks and not missing the gimmes.

I know Brayshaw had the fumbles, but I reckon he can play. Hope to hell he hasn't got concussion problems...

IMV if Brayshaw was my son I would be extremely reticent to let him play again! PERIOD

His health must be paramount, and given his knocks to the head  over the last two years, I would not like to see him suffer any long term effects! And to those of you that reckon ,Yeah Fence, Yadda, Yadda,.. he has passed tests before, yeah medical clearance has been obtained..... Can I direct you to the movie Concussion.. Based on the events in this movie we are walking a fine and dangerous line!

bit different to the way nfl players in full body armour lead with the head and the sacrosanct nature that the head is treated in afl.

mccartin has had it far worse than gus thus far in their short careers.

Fortunately we have these crazy medical professionals who make judgements on these sort of things and a footy department who consistently takes an ultra cautious approach with our young players.

if they thought there was any risk at all I am very certain he wouldn't be allowed to play.

What a great problem to have when Brayshaw is pushed out of the side. I know he will be effing filthy but he is playing a role that he isn't suited to, because of the strength of our midfield.

And Kent is a much better player in the role that Brayshaw has been playing so he makes way.

I understand it - and the pressure is on ANB and Hannan to perform.

What a great problem to have.

Exactly my concern. I agree with you - so I hope to hell that the kid is getting really good advice. Came off with a bandage on his head..

Hasn't had a good run at it

The medico's will follow procedure and they will know the literature, as it is not. But there's a view about that as we know more, we'll be even more cautious.

Damn.

I'm happy enough with the changes. Kent is important to us when he's on, he has good pace and forward pressure, and I think Goodwin's game style will suit him a lot. Vince coming in is no surprise, but I'm happy for Smith to debut. He's done it the hard way and some times those players are the ones that have the immediate impact because the want it more. Would be fantastic if we've found a player here.

The changes also suit the Etihad dimensions, although I was one that was up for the idea of bringing Spencer in, I don't think this was the game to do it.

I said it earlier in the thread, I don't know if I have confidence in winning but I have confidence that we've built a group of competitors that will give any team a run on their day. We can definitely win this weekend.

Give them hell Dees!

Whether or not Gus is suffering from concussive issues, he and the selectors need to decide where and what he is to do best.  At the moment he is played on a HFF as a sort of default undecided spot.

IF and when he regains full fitness where will he play?

Will or should he play for Casey this weekend?

But back to selections, Kent will surely add zip and pace to the forward line.

Looking forward to seeing Smith - haven't seen him.  Is he a genuine back up ruck?

Im not really sure they fully know 100% all the aspects and long term affects of serious concussions. There does come a time when enough is enough tho.

I wonder if the Carlton doctors will allow that poor victim Rowe to play this week?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
