Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melksham out for Vince. Good? lol seriously.

Kent in. Brayshaw out. Not a mid, not a forward. Not good nor bad, just not for me at the moment. Kent is better.

You can argue it all you like, mate. Doesn't make it true.

It was like watching Melbourne of old seeing Dom kick it out on the full, to 1-on-3s or that god-awful clearance when he got a perfect tap from Gawn, threw it immediately on his boot and it went 30 metres straight to a Carlton player. If he's getting our highest possessions in the future and disposing of it in the manner he was today, we are in real trouble.

As my non-Demons supporting mate said, we were lucky we were playing Carlton today.

It was his first game back having not even played JLT, give the guy a break. The fact that he gets the pill so often enough to make these errors, shows that he's one of our key players who is always in the right spot to feed off the great work Jonesy, Clarry and co are doing. If it's not Tyson putting himself in the right spot time after time through endurance, who on earth would you bring in to replace that? Maybe just a little more patience for a player returning from injury and an interupted pre season.

Just because you post it doesn't make it true either

That was Tyson's first game, he got better the longer the game went

I don't give a flying what your non Demons supporting mate thinks of my team

I take it you are another one who just watches the game for mistakes

No, it doesn't. It shows that if he's collecting the pill, then someone else with decent disposal isn't.

The problem is that Tyson's best is very good, but his worst is shocking. I'd rather see him find form in the VFL.

You're only looking at what didn't work, and ignoring what did. 7 tackles, 12 marks, and amongst the leaders for clearances etc. Focusing only his clangers, while ignoring everyone else's, doesn't help give credibility to the anti-Tyson argument. Cripps and Gibbs, both (arguably) two champions of the game, each had 5 clangers, with efficiency around that of Tyson's ... but without the possessions or everything else Tyson contributed.

Was he perfect? Far from it. But compared to the majority of our mids (and theirs), he made a substantial contribution.

Incidentally, there was another player on the weekend who had high possessions, but at a kicking efficiency even lower than Tyson's and with almost as many clangers: Patrick Dangerfield

As mentioned by someone that Brayshaw needs time in the Casey side, however their first match begin April 14 so what is he expected to do in the meantime apart from training.

I don't know why the VFL starts later than the AFL ( 3 weeks) when the WAFL starts before the AFL,how can you pick players for the senior team based on 2nd grade practice matches?.

Goodness me .....your non Demons supporting mate ....said "lucky we were playing Carlton" phew better shoot that little nugget of info to the brains trust at Melb ....I mean "really"!! Dom comes in ....pretty much no pre-season form....a little rusty but I share Goodwins comments .."very good" .  We played a team who were coached to stop us scoring & so they set up incredibly defensively.  A team & coaching panel needs to find a way to play against that....it was the total opposite of last weeks game & although the game wasn't "pretty" eventually they worked it out and got a win.  Another great "learning " experience for a young team & that goes in the memory bank for next time.  It would be great to run out each week & play the way we are coached but as we improve ..you can be sure as hell..opposition coaches will be coaching to ensure that doesn't happen.  I for one am happy to see any win.  At the pointy end of the year all you will see is 4 points...not how we got them

Pedersen in if Hogan suspended.

Vince in, for Lewis if suspended. If not, I think he takes the place of ANB or Hannan, reluctantly.

No other changes for me. It was an imperfect performance no doubt, but I want to persevere with this side. Our young half forwards struggled - ANB, Hannan, Brayshaw - but they were all outstanding the week prior. I don't want these players to start a revolving door tour of the side where they lose their place after one quiet game. I don't think that's helpful from a long term development point of view and I think it unsettles the team.

I understand the urge to get Kent in but I'm prepared to wait one more week. His time will come and I'd like him firing when it does.

I agree, Nash.  We're 2-0 and we should look for as much continuity as possible.  Vince is the automatic inclusion, though, with Kent and Pedersen waiting in the wings.  Other than that we should stick with the same side for another week and give them the chance to keep our unbeaten run going.

Hogan is likely to get a week, I reckon we might see the dual ruckmen experiment which worked so well against the Cats 2 years ago, allowing Watts to stay forward for the whole match.

Spoke to D Kent at the footy y`day, he is ready to go if selected and felt good after the Casey practice match. Hannan has been OK but he is no DKent (By the way, he met up with Lynden Dunn pre match who gave him a big man hug. I said to Dunny ``you`re still a Demon aren`t you mate`` to which he replied yeah I just wanted to come along and see how the boys go).

Someone has to come out for Vince, not like for like but possibly Brayshaw/ANB

OUT Hogan (susp), Hannan, Brayshaw/ANB

IN Spencer, Kent, Vince

The combination of Lewis, Brayshaw and Salem gave us far better balance and quality around the stoppages than Dom - holding the ball/turnover Tyson. Don't get fooled by his stats. He blasted to no one repeatedly, is slow to defend at the stoppages and his field kicking is disgusting. He had a big last quarter but he needed to because he'd cost us about 5 goals by that time.

13 hours ago, DeeSpencer said:

Nope. The team balance is better without him especially on the quick Etihad deck and his kicking was horrendous.

5 clangers to Harmes' 1.

0 contested possessions, 1 tackle. We can do far better than him. He's bruise free.

Selective use of stats much?

More importantly, usually I like what you write, but I happen to disagree with you today. I thought Tyson started slowly but improved dramatically as the day went on. Melksham I thought was good, but not great. And Harmes looks to me to be better at half-forward than half-back.

Not sure, all of them probably, but I'm sure that if Simpson was a Melbourne player, Demonland would have him at Casey next week.

I would say 22 blokes needed to have a big last quarter yesterday... I agree it wasn't his best game (7 clangers at 62% efficiency by foot isn't great) but far from drop-worthy (Trac went at 61%, Viney 59% and Hogan 52%). It was his first game back (7 tackles, 5 score involvements) going up against one of the best-contested players in the league in Cripps. Tyson has never been an elite ball user or line breaker, he is, however, an exceptional extractor and very clean in tight with his hands, a Matty Priddis type. Sam Mitchell and Andrew Gaff are overjoyed to have someone like Priddis to feed them the ball. Having Tyson in the side allows Viney, Lewis, Brayshaw, Salem, Jones, Oliver, Stretch etc. to receive the ball and break the lines with either their athleticism or ball-use. It also gives us the luxury of playing our more experienced mids off half-back.

If Dom continues to turn the ball over at the rate he did yesterday then I would start to question his place in the side, however, 23 years old coming off a dislocated knee, can we reserve judgement for a couple more weeks.

I'm assuming Hogan and Lewis will be suspended.

Vince comes in for Lewis.  It will be interesting see if Frost and/or Wagner come in - I thought our defence worked very well yesterday but both of them add some dash - probably not ready though both only played a half for Casey.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-04-02/bugg-shines-in-vfl-practice-match

Tall forward replacement for Hogan appears to be Pedersen or Tim Smith (I can't envisage a tall forward pairing of Weideman-Keilty at this stage) unless we go with Spencer which seems unlikely at Etihad - uninspiring all around.   I'll be amazed if Hannan isn't retained - we do need to kick a score, particularly against Geelong, and he looks likely to score in the air or on the ground.  I'd like to see Kent come in for this reason and maybe it's Brayshaw out.

Vince to Dangefield, Viney to Selwood, stick with them all day and make them earn everything    The rest of our mids will be stronger than the Cats mids, who will have to try contain Jones, Oliver, Tyson,  Petracca, Salem,  Stretch etc..

We can win this game even with Hogan and Lewis out.

Melksham was good imo. ANB, Hannan and Gus were quiet today. Harmes came into the game as it went on and was a big reason we ran over them in the last.

Said this before and will repeat it.

Harmes is not a defender. 3 turnovers and 2 goals and a poster to Blues early in the game, directly from his mistakes.

Later in the game he was better.

To me he should only be played forward, or even with a burst in the middle to add some aggression if needed. He can snag a goal and that is where he is best for us.

I still think his best game was in our win over GWS at Etihad in 2015 when he played forward and was able to clunk some big marks.

He always looked to handpass yesterday too, clearly not confident in his kicking.

We have enough poor skilled players in defence without adding another.

He can kick a goal, take a grab and is aggressive. He can apply defensive pressure as a forward.

Players like Jetta and Salem hardly waste a possession and are great coming out of the backline, setting up play.

Harmes is just not highly skilled and will leak goals as he did yesterday, if played down back.

He looked far more comfortable later in the game when he got the ball around midfield and created play running forward.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
