I was thinking "don't sit there and apologise for your actions to a fat slob who has no idea what's it's like on an AFL footy field".  Lewis did the crime and he'll cop his right whack, but he didn't need to grovel for forgiveness to placate armchair critics.  I want a hard edge at this club and I'm starting to see it.  They haven't got the balance right in the first couple of rounds, so hopefully they'll start treading the right side of that fine line.

This is great.

To be fair to Slobbo, he did emphasize that both Jordy and Hoges at least were front on with their hits yet the elbow and knee from Thompson was DIRTY. Frustrating that our players copped harsher reprimands when those cheapshots during North V Geee-long got next to nothing.

You and I usually agree but not on this occasion.

Firstly I don't see it as Lewis responding to Robbo who, like you, I see as a vacant space.  But Robbo last night was asking questions for me.  Lewis was on national TV and I wanted to see how he felt about letting down his teammates, his employer, the footy public and importantly the supporters of the club who have spent 11 years in the desert.

His words I could almost cope with but his body language and tone made it clear he doesn't rate how we want the club to be viewed.  Mahoney said yesterday that the actions of Vince, Hogan and Lewis are not how we wanted to be represented.  Lewis said "I don't give a stuff".

In another place I'm on record as questioning Lewis' attitude.  Last night he basically said to me "I'm a four time premiership player, I've done it all, I'm MFC's best player and I can do what I want and I don't care".  I didn't get the sense that he understood that he's put at risk the volume of work and effort everyone on this list has done to achieve finals this year.  He strikes me as an arrogant tool, not only to the public but to his teammates.  He didn't give a rats that he'd broken someone's jaw. He's very self satisfied.

Rather than seeing him in the coaches box for the next three weeks he should be doing some anger management and leadership courses.  He should look at Viney, Oliver, Jones and Hunt as players that play the game really hard without needing to punch the opposition when it gets a bit hard.  I can't agree with those saying he turned the game for us on Sunday, nor with those trying to defend him (or Vince or Hogan).  He's put the season at risk through being a brain dead dumb ass and it looked to me last night like he couldn't give a damn.

What is done is done.

Could this allow Hogan in particular to "manage" his mystery injury?  Come back refreshed in a couple of weeks.

He does need to get some help however into how to cope with niggling - he WILL be a target, probably more so after this week.  Is there anyone at the club such as a sports psychologist to help him learn how to handle pressure better?

And I wonder what those who's opinion he does value have said.  The implication is he thinks he's a good bloke and those around him think he did nothing wrong.  Hard to reconcile that with Mahoney's view and those of Tom McDonald.

Well it was refreshing in that he didn't roll out the usual guff which you might expect. Doesn't mean I liked it. 

But I'm not sure you can assume that implication.  It could be that he accepts the views of Mahoney etc, but he doesn't give two hoots about what outsiders think as a general policy which he holds.   And ignoring supporters is not such a bad idea - imagine what a mixed-up schizoid a player would be if he didn't ignore much of what we say here.

Love Josh Mahoney's attention grabbing refutation; 'That's not how we want to be perceived'. And yet there he was bringing attention to it. It is very clear that this group want to psychologically intimidate other clubs. It's a deliberate aura (Hawthorn-like) that they want to manufacture. And whilst Lewis and Hogan stupidly hurt our chances for on field success over the next 3 weeks, and in no way do I condone their behaviour, I have to (begrudgingly) admit that their actions help build that aura. Like it or not, a big part of success in footy is about physical intimidation and the psychological effect it carries.

Lewis was suspended for three matches for a strike that left Blues midfielder Patrick Cripps with a small hairline fracture in his jaw, while Hogan accepted a two-game ban for an open-palm strike on defender Sam Rowe that caused late-onset concussion.

Carlton presented a clear summary of both players' medical circumstances to the MRP on Monday, ultimately convincing the Panel to grade the impact of both strikes as medium.

A maximum impact grading of high is typically reserved for displaced fractures and, increasingly, for concussion. The MRP can also upgrade impact as it sees fit, based on the risk of serious injury.

Riewoldt said the focus on medical reports when setting MRP penalties was a grey area that led to similar actions being punished differently.

"I'd say that too much is put into the medical report," the star forward said on Fox Footy.

Yes I hope it's a different dynamic that game. I hope we're 10 goals up at half time and have the game on ice. Then the boys can spend the second half following them to the ball purely so they can annihilate them repeatedly in tackles, see if they can replicate some Byron Pickett moments! Be nice to bury a few of their campaigners like Armfield into the turf and make sure they stay down.

No wonder the Captain of Brisbane left this mob, wanted somewhere where the air was clear.....Carlton would have been unbearable if they won this game, and they clearly went about it in the sniping way they know how.  

 "A clear summary of both players medical circumstances", in view of time allowed, i would say would be just about impossible....

Lewis would have trouble counting his money if it is ever established that his action was not the cause of a "small hairline fracture in" (strange word to use in this context "in" someone's jaw, like, for example, if it was already in there?

I'd say there's a lot more to this than meets the eye.

They definitely went for us extra hard after half time, probably trying to play on the "bruise-free" crap.

Whatever it was that Cripps did that got under Lewis's skin got under Viney's skin too.

Weitering was doing a lot of work off the ball to keep T-Mac away from the ball, allowing Casboult to mark virtually unopposed because T-Mac was blocked and couldn't come in & spoil. Watts got elbowed in the back of the head going for a mark - play on. But nothing was picked up by the umpires. There seemed to be a lot of holding off the ball on their blind side.

And we definitely lost our "shape" for a while in that third term, allowing them to hit the front. They were pushing us around physically, and often illegally, and getting away with it.

Lewis said that things were going on before that incident but he didn't elaborate and perhaps fortunately wasn't asked to. So I reckon Lewis just took matters into his own hands and felt that we're not taking it any more and we're fighting back. After that, and the subsequent melee, we regained our "shape" & structure, and started to play "fearless footy" again.

Seems the club is very unhappy with what went on in that 3rd quarter, but they can't say anything

I'd say both sides we've played so far have tried to go the "off the ball" stuff after half time, and as always seems to happen, the provocation gets missed and it's the retaliation that gets caught. I'd also say that most sides are going to play us this way when we get on top of them and we need to work out how to respond in a way that doesn't require our senior players to get rubbed out.

Looking forward to seeing whether Rowe lines up this week when you consider the dramatic doctors report which was at pains to highlight his serious concussion issues.

If he does play, either of two things are at play here. (1) Carlton are  breaching a duty of care by allowing one of their players to play the week after experiencing dramatic delayed concussion symptons such as dizziness, compromised vision and nausea or (2) Carlton's doctor flat out lied which is breach of a doctor's code of ethics I would've thought.

Surely Rowe sits this week out.....right?
