Super talented yes and I def look forward to his progress. He was described at the time of being drafted as being something like a  Dusty or a Wines. I cant quite see the explosive pace in him of Dusty or the mongrel of Wines. Remember BOTH of those players were making marks in their first season. I think trac is coming on nicely without taking anything by storm ( practice match v the blues excluded) Before I start bragging re not choosing Mc Cartin I want to see him really bust a few games open this year. So comparing Dusty 155 games and Wines 80+ games with Trac 18 games and a serious injury which cost him a year out of the game

Can remember some bog ordinary games from both Martin and Wines

Petracca is being asked to play a role each week and he is getting better at it each week

Was trying to compare them to their first years Saty. Both were match winners on occaisons before they became who they are now. Granted its tricky with Trac missing a year. Dont get me wrong Im a trac fan...I just remember waiting around for Morton, Cook, Gysberts, Trengove ( heartbreaking)  etc to be "stars" so Im sceptical now when we're claiming one. I just want to see him really express what it looks like he has to express a few times before I get too excited or smug re Mc Cartin.

Don't worry, saty is just so keen to defend players that he often misses what a poster is really saying, to your point I think yes track is good enough to be a match winner right now! I think his performance in JLT2 showed that

We won by a country mile on that draft.
The problem with KPF's is that we don't play a game where there's a stay at home full forward. There is no point recruiting a Tony Lockett because the game has no need for one anymore.
Your KPF's need to follow the Buddy Franklin footprint and be an elite runner and be able to push up the ground for 4 quarters, Paddy isn't nearly fit enough.
I see him and I see an overweight kid who isn't even big enough to muscle too many off the ball.
We are in an age where the whole team kicks goals, 18 man defences have no need for a bloke who can't run out a game.

Weideman will surpass him within a year, it will be good, he is lean, tall, safe hands and will look like Josh Kennedy by the end of his career (Maybe not his beard)

It would have been a hard decision for the Sainters. Can see the logic in going for McCartin given how hard it is to recruit key forwards. Physically his transformation to an AFL physique is still a work in progress. Against the Eagles his footy talent was pretty obvious. It is the physical transformation required that is his issue. He does have to manage his diabetes but there are enough examples of elite athletes who have done that and performed to a high level. If he can build his physique and endurance he will be quality player.

i reckon Mccartin missed because of his diabetes last week  hamstring awareness pffft . Maybe feeling 90% so played in the reserves . If Im right becomes part of the equation as he may not play as much as trac over his career looks like they wont play him unless feeling 100% so its no excuse when playing.

Many people are talking about McCartin like he's a bad player. He is not. McCartin is an excellent contested mark and tracking pretty well for a young key forward. He's tracking a lot better than Josh Kennedy was at this point, who is probably the type of player that McCartin is most similar to.

Just because we have a great talent like Petracca, doesn't mean that you need to rubbish McCartin to justify it to yourself. We are not the basket case we were. Petracca being good doesn't automatically mean the alternative is bad.

Cant find any logic in the hamstring awareness thing and did hear Richardson say it was a power issue in Reference  to the hammy but he was seemed to be under the pump and giving a little away .

The topic requires us to look at McCartin's faults to decide whether or not you think St Kilda made the right decision. 

If he didn't have fairly obvious weaknesses then it wouldn't even be a debate.

I wonder about Petracca's capacity for consistency. Can do the sublime, really sketchy in front of goal, and goes missing...wanting peoples thoughts on this, is there any other player you'd liken him to that he could become..

Consistency will come with experience and maturity. He's going to be a phenomenal player, there's no doubt about it.

We have a wealth of players around that 20 game mark who are performing far better than expected at this stage of their careers, and Petracca is one of them.
