Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think some are certainly catching on. If Oliver turns it on again tomorrow, there'll be no hiding it.

Flanagan didn't seem to notice it in his article yesterday which seemed to praise nearly every other star on our list!

Just on the question of the club's intentions going into that draft, I was at the pre draft talk at the club with Jason Taylor and Todd Viney and they basically had it down to taking two of Petracca, McCartin and Brayshaw but the way they spoke it sounded very much like they believed the Saints would take the truck, spending a lot of time talking about Paddy's attributes. They even mentioned how he dealt with his diabetes and the need for him to manage it with rests during games.

There was also the matter about Alan Richardson being close with the Petracca family and how he knew Christian from when he was a young kid.

There is a lot to suggest that the Saints changed their minds in the eleventh hour. I think we might have lucked out on this one.

Special ?

Hogan is special.  McCartin might be solid, or even very good, I don't see "special".

If true, this is why I am forever thankful that St Kilda too McCartin.

A rare oversight from the otherwise brilliant Jason Taylor.

Not really an oversight if he thought Petracca would go number 1. What's apparent is the club rated McCartin in the top 3 talents for that draft. What Jason Taylor's order would have been is speculative.

The saints got spooked when Boyd went to the dogs for a million a season. They were gonna have a crack at him the following year when he came out of contract. The price tag made them think taking a key forward early is better than trying to trade one in and selling the farm in the process.

Unfortunately "lucked out" has become one of those expressions to have an antonymous double meaning.  I died a little on the inside recently when Merriam-Webster added a definition of 'literally' to mean the same as 'figuratively'.

When I look at the best 3 up and coming key forwards in the comp

lynch, Jesse and joe

they have cover the ground so well and run their opposition off their feet, I've never seen anything to suggest paddy can do this, I think he's a Charlie Dixon style full forward who might be good but not reach the level of the three above.

Petracca to me the only real concern I have with him is I am not sure if he's either a genuine forward or mid, I think he may well only ever be a burst midfield player which is fine if the others come on as expected

"Lucked out" is a strange description, when what is meant is that we got the luck.

I have always thought that about this term.

Petracca is destined to be a super player for us.

Skills and talent aside though, I like his infectious enthusiasm and what that brings to the group. It's refreshing to have his personality type kicking around in the team - it gives the group some further dimensionality (X factor).

In fact, I'm ultra confident about where this group is headed. It's got all the right ingredients.

Jordan Lewis is the perfect counter-point to this. He'll harness the talent of the likes of Petracca and ensure it is utilised in a calm, disciplined and effective way. It's the very reason I feel calm about playing Carlton today, whereas in years gone past I'd be feeling super anxious about the game and be expecting an inconvenient loss against a lesser side.

Again watching him yesterday "special" didn't jump out at me. Solid, some potential were the words I had in mind. Really needs to lift his game sense and just can't body or find the ball in the air like our man Hoges (not many can but he is special).

Oh PD beat me to it.

I agree Petracca will be great , along with our other young blokes,   but its now that concerns me, this year,   With Lewis involved I am not nearly as concerned about "blowing" 4 points we should get and get easily.  He should control the backs and keep every one calm,     Go Dees give 'em HELL  !!

people are forgetting Darcy Moore and Nakia Cockatoo. In the same draft as Petracca, Wright and McCartin. Both of these guys could be stars IMO

Darcy Moores development is going to take a halt in the same vein as Josh Fraser. Why? because he is being asked to be their number 1 forward coming up against the likes of Rance and Frawley who will monster him. His body is still growing and atm he should be playing 3rd tall foil like Weideman is currently. I feel for the kid because he is a super talent. Unfortunately letting go off Cloke might bite them back because he would always take the best defender and i thought that's where Moore played his best footy.

Nakis while talented goes missing too often and very inconsistent.

I'm very happy with Brayshaw and Tracca thanks.

A question about Petracca.

Super talented yes and I def look forward to his progress. He was described at the time of being drafted as being something like a  Dusty or a Wines. I cant quite see the explosive pace in him of Dusty or the mongrel of Wines. Remember BOTH of those players were making marks in their first season. I think trac is coming on nicely without taking anything by storm ( practice match v the blues excluded) Before I start bragging re not choosing Mc Cartin I want to see him really bust a few games open this year. I also think we lucked out ( or in) with this one...just want to really see the proof.

McCartin has had a wretched run with collision injuries and concussions, so hard to say how he'll turn out.

But then again, Petracca has already had a full year out and then some, due to injury.

Can't help thinking that the Saints were hoping for a Riewoldt, and got a Koschitzke.

Meanwhile, Melbourne were hoping for a Petracca and got a Petracca.

The Barry Prendergast 'warning' comes to mind - never recruit on the basis of how you imagine a player might be if they change in the ways you hope they will.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
