Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I know this will get moved to the AFLW Forum very soon but as most readers don't visit it, I thought you would like to know of our AFLW Demon success

It has been a really successful season for the AFLW and the Demons came agonizingly close to the GF missing the right to play on percentage.  Maybe next year.

We have a very talented team as evidenced by:

  • 4 Rising Star nominees, the highest number of any club: Lily Mithen, Jasmine Grierson, Katherine Smith, Deanna Berry
    • Winner:  Ebony Marinoff (Adelaide)
    • Demon Placings (from 14 nominees)  3. Lily Mithen, 5. Jasmine Grierson, 8. Deanna Berry.
  • 6 nominees in the All Australian Team of 40 players, the highest number outside the Grand Finalists: Karen Paxman, Elise O’Dea, Daisy Pearce, Melissa Hickey, Lily Mithen, Jasmine Grierson
    • Demons in Final Squad: Karen Paxman, Daisy Pearce, Melissa Hickey, Elise O'Dea
    • Captain: Daisy Pearce
  • Best Captain as judged by players:
    • Winner: Our very own Daisy Pearce
  • Best and Fairest:  Demons in the mix:  Karen Paxman, Daisy Pearce
    • Winner:  Erin Phillips (Adelaide)
    • Demon Placings:  2. Karen Paxman (Tie)

Congratulations to all and especially to the winners.  We will be hearing those names a lot more in the future. Lets just hope the weird AFL rules on putting all contracts up for renewal this year doesn't cause major losses of our players.

And the understatement of the year:  Daisy is an amazing asset to the MFC!

We lost two games in the rain. I know it's a winter sport but the girls trained and played in weather unlike that.  The Dees were stiff but we will be a force assuming afl allows us to keep the players we drafted next season.

Don't understand how the womens awards work but once Daisy retires hopefully the most prestigious one is named after her. MFC in conjunction with Daisy are pioneers of womens professional football. That should be recognised.

Special mention needs to be made of Erin Phillips (Adelaide Crows), AFLW honours:

  • ·         Premiership Captain.
  • ·         Grand Final, BOG.
  • ·         MVP as voted by players.
  • ·         Goal of the Year
  • ·         AFLW Best Fairest.

Non AFLW honours:  2008 Olympic Silver medal, Women’s Basketball.  2006 FIBA World Championship for Women Gold Medal.

Not much to add - that record speaks for itself.

Where did Daisy finish in the B & F? I was quite surprised she didn't place higher and couldn't find anything on placings other than the winner.

Thanks

The full list hasn't been published from what I can tell.  I can only find the top 4/5:

14 – Erin Phillips (Adel)
10 – Ellie Blackburn (WB), Karen Paxman (Melb)
9 – Lara Filocamo (Frem)
8 – Kaitlyn Ashmore (BL)

Its fair to assume that Karen Paxman who had an outstanding year 'stole' votes from Daisy.  Its tough for an outstanding player to score highly when there are two champions in the team.  I would really like to see the same round by round detail that we get for the Brownlow.  Daisy's last few games were exceptional.  Surprised didn't get 8 votes to get equal fifth, over the last 3/4 games.  She played injured in the first 2.

The way I see it, we have two champions Daisy and Karen and when the season is as short as 7 games there isn't enough games for both players to poll well like male players do over 22 games.  AFLW is a tough gig.

However, I am delighted that we had 4 RS nominees, two of whom made the final AA squad along with a number of our more senior players.

I think, had we made the GF we would have gone in favourites - we were playing unbelievable football in the last few rounds.  As I mentioned in original post I just hope we can keep the team together.

I think both Daisy and O'Dea finished on 7 votes.

So yep, classic vote spreading situation. A nice problem to have of course and hopefully continues.

I went to the same primary school as Erin, about four years her senior, and have very distinct memories of her at around the age of seven kicking the footy with the boys at lunch-time. Whenever there has been a discussion of women's footy in the past, my mind would always cast back to those times. She's the Jack Viney of the AFLW - bred to play the game - and had left a lasting impression before ever having been granted the opportunity to take the field on the big stage. Congratulations. A deserving winner.

Interesting how they've named the AA team. Compared to how they arrange the match-day teams, they've subtracted a forward pocket & a back pocket, added two wingers, and kept 6 on the bench.

If it gets Elise O'Dea into the starting 16 (as a winger) instead of on the bench, I'm all for it! ^_^

I'm also a big fan of Lily Mithen, she's got that aura of the enthusiastic kid with the right mindset, who just needs a couple of year's experience to put it all together and take control.

Elise O'Dea is another I reckon could transform with a good off-season preparation, from very good to absolutely dominant. Training to add a bit more fitness and make best use of her relative strength through the core, she could become the 'prototype modern AFLW footballer' - in the way people used to talk about Koutafides.

Others I have high hopes for are Alyssa Mifsud, Lauren Pearce, Kat Smith and Catherine Phillips.

I thin we're set up to be a powerhouse, but it'll need constant attention with the amount of change to be expected in the AFLW in coming years.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
