Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Garlett, Kent, Hannan, Petracca, Watts & Hogan is now my favorite forward line (i want the forward pressure & i think hannan's skills clearly put him above VDB). Last year Kent was always the guy running from one lose defender to the next (when they had the ball and were switching) and his speed between players helped defensively pressure the kicks like essendon's tipinwoodi (however its spelt).

I don't know if he should come in this week, but i see Kent in the team by the week after if not.

Kent's good at that kind of catch up pressure, but it shows how far off it the forward line was last year, particularly due to the defensive efforts of Hogan and Watts being rather poor and Garlett having some really down weeks.

What we really want is as soon as the other team gets the ball that all forwards number off straight on to their opponents (not direct opponents but 1 for 1) and then the team doesn't have an outlet. ANB's fitness meant he jumped straight on to Savage, Webster or Roberton or whomever was going to be loose. Jeffy was on his game. Hannan and Petracca have that fast twitch movement to grab a guy and Watts and Hogan have clearly been told to keep on their man.

Kent's great at chasing someone down but he has to change directions and keep digging in for those first few quick steps to make sure he's on the ball. As a midfielder I think ANB Is faster at recognising play and changing from attacking to defending because that's what midfielders do at stoppages all the time. A bit of time on ball at Casey would probably be good for Kent's development. So many teams now use a midfielder (or multiple mids) at half forward - Kieran Jack, Toby Greene, any number of Bulldogs players etc not just as a rotation spot but in a designated spot due to their ball finding and defensive skills.

The merry-go-round will continue on the Oscar debate.

O-Mac gets games because: A) Clearly the coaches believe in his long term success and B) We have nobody else on our list as replacement discounting Frost. (Injured).

Therefore he is an outlier in that he will continue to get games, regardless of immediate form. At any other club, he'd be playing reserves on current form I understand this idea doesn't compute for some posters who continue to defend at all costs.

But it's the fact of the matter.

He is currently nowhere near the required standard.

Completely disagree about your hypothesis as to why he gets selected and that he 'nowhere near the required standard'. In regard to the latter, with respect, it is complete nonsense to say 'its the fact of the matter'.

Clearly Goodwin shares my opinion as there is no way on god's good earth he would select a player who was 'nowhere near the required standard'. No way. Winning this game was critical. As if they would have selected a player who they thought was not up to AFL standard. Sheesh.

Goodwin selects OMac because he believes he fully deserves his spot. The time has (largely) passed for selecting for the future. The one exception to that rule in my book is Weideman, who is good structurally but is borderline in terms of  being a better selection that Pederson. By the by i'm happy for weeds to be in the side.

Omac can play the zone defense properly and i have no doubt Goodwin was behind his early inclusion last year at the expense of Dunn.

Bernie is out, copped 1 week.

In -     Tyson,  Bugg

Out -  Smith,  Vince

Edit   -  Bugg in instead of Kent

We need a defensive minded player.

Lewis and Salem spending more time there might be a blessing in disguise as they'll give us composure but if Tyson and Bugg come in to the midfield then we've lost a bit of class in there.

Harmes as a like for like Bernie replacement - hard runner, pacey, variable kicking - might be the option instead of Bugg. Or we might try something a little more creative like Brayshaw to half back and Kent at half forward.

Comparing Harmes and Bernie is an insult to Bernie

Disagree.

  1. Don't think the ball will be down there much for us to worry.
  2. We played 8 defenders against St Kilda and if we do the same here it won't matter.
  3. Carlton's forward line isn't very good at the moment.

Apparently not. Was mentioned somewhere here re the Casey game. Don't quote me though. Whatever happened, I'd be very surprised if Frost was ready.

Wagner back training but will need a couple of weeks. Hibberd has an archilles problem, due to restart training, will also need a couple of weeks. Then, both will need games at Casey. Hard to see them being ready inside a month.

Frost is close to resuming, was half-expected at Casey on the weekend, presumable will start playing again next week. But as above, then needs match fitness.

Info on the site from last week, imagine we'll get an update over the next couple of days, together with news on Smith, but his looks much more long-term.

Just looking at the stats from Round 1. Docherty and Simpson were 12th and 13th in the AFL for metres gained with 598 and 594 metres respectively. The best Melbourne player was Petracca with 437 metres. I guess it depends on gamestyle (which might explain why we are lower due to the higher number of shorter kicks and sharing it around) but if we can limit the influence of these two (defensive forward) the Blues will find it hard to get the ball into their forward half. Who's up for the job? ANB and Hannan? Or Bugg comes in for Smith/Bernie?

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
