Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Carlton look like a very good young list. Will be wooden spooners, but are doing the right thing with all the young players getting a game.

Richmond will be a lot better than people think but will continue to do Richmond-esque things and stuff their season up. Their mids and forwards looked ok tonight and Martin is now a superstar, but their defence is an atrocious mess and any good forward line that excells ar contested marking - including ours - will tear them apart. Carlton' skill errors made Richmond look very good at times, much better thwn they actually are.

If Richmonds defense is an atrocious mess with Rance in id hate to think what ours is with the McDonald brothers......

Rance is the only stable part, even though he wasn't great tonight. They seem to harrass and tackle ok, but leave so many open marking opportunities for their opposition. If Rance can't get across as third man up, a good marking team will show up this glaring flaw.

Our defense is no different to Richmonds. A big glaring flaw for us too, especially when we get sliced through our zone to leave their forwardout in space.

Our defence is going to be the major weakness for us this year.

Carlton to have five no. 1 picks on the park next year?

No, cos Gibbs will get his wish and be traded to the Crows.

It was an entertaining game to watch - free flowing and high scoring.

The likes of GW$, Swans, Footscray - basically, any side that puts on a scintilla of pressure - will hammer the both of them.

I was at the game last night with a delighted Richmond supporting mate. Definitely a tad sloppy game at times but it was mostly entertaining to watch. I think Carlton have found a handy backline duo in Marchbank and Plowman. Both seemed to read the play very well.

Is Carlton running around with half a team made up of GWS rejects?

If Marchbank could kick, he'd be really dangerous.

Are you arriving at this conclusion based of off a few praccy games or the fact you don't rate the McD's?

Zoning is in vogue once again across the league and we have some very quick and agile players in our defence. Melksham and Hibberd will become much better with a few games into them, Hunt and Salem will go to the next level this year, Jones, Vince and Lewis roaming half back, Watts and Hogan floating back where needed. And then we have Wagner,  J Smith, Jetta to name a few more!

And you reckon our defence isn't too dissimilar to Richmonds?

I thought you new your footy.

Typical early season game. Free wheeling games with fresh players, all offensive and sloppy defending. New game plans will be analysed and countered. Strengths and weaknesses identified. When things tighten up the real form sides stand out.

Can anyone step me through how we lost to Carlton last year?

The players thought they just had to turn up to win. The lack of effort we showed that day was abysmal. With even a half decent effort we should beat Carlton by 10 goals.

I don't rate and fawn over the McDonald brothers like you do. Tom is a good ordinary defender and thats it. Don't need to go down this path again.

Some of those names you put down i still have question marks over. Melksham will add speed but his disposal by foot is questionable. Goodwin has a love for him that i dont quite understand. Bernie Vince in backline just does not fit at all. He turns it over far too oftern for someone with such a good kick. Some of his best football played was as a tagger.

Smith is unkown. Had a good JTL game 1 but his game 2 he was horrible by foot. I am very excited for his debut though!

This is why Lewis and Hibberd will be very important to our back 6 structure. They use the footy well and have that class and experience. Id like toput Salem down there but his not a defenders [censored]. Leave him in the midfield where we drafted him from as a junior.

Makes Tommy Mac look like Darren Jarman...

HAHA he got to plenty of it, but just missed a few targets that brought the ball back into the defence. He still looks under done, as in he looks like he needs another preseason to build the tank.

I can't recall any one time where I have been perceived by anyone else to 'fawn' over the McDonalds since I've been a member if this site.

Anyway, Tom will always have his moments but he is a key in defence and above 'good ordinary'.

I am however interested in how you see our defence to be no different to Richmonds. That's a big call to make, I'm thinking you've done the analysis already and can put forward something plausible or are we just going to stick with shooting from the hip?

Checked the AFL site this morning.

Would have appreciated an explanation as to why the AFL website continually crashed last evening and what is being done to make sure it does not happen again.

At the very least they need a back up system that frees the radio stations to broadcast their coverage. The idea of all radio coverage going through the AFL and them having an unstable platform is disappointing to say the least.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
