Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This just reinforces the stereotype. We're the only club where the bulk of its supporters can afford to go to the footy.

As distinct from those other clubs where the members have money to throw away on membership fees.

We really need some success to improve our supporter base amongst the young .... 23 years between finals appearances and then 52 years since the last flag is an abysmal performance

You should probably google '2000 AFL grand final'.

On second thoughts  . . .

It's a tribe. My mate and I once didn't get along when we met. As soon as we figured out we were both demons supporters everything else was forgotten, and to this day we are still great mates.

I am a stupidly passionate supporter.

I have signed up every one of mate's children to this club. So much so, they no longer seek to sell their kids' MFC memberships on eBay - they just wear it. They still find it annoying though.

My 3.5 year old son just received his 2017 membership pack - his card says '5 years' consecutive member. He'll thank me for that. One day. Signed Henry up as a 20 week old foetus. And the club accepted his application (?). Youngest member ever.

I will drink a ridiculous amount of booze if and when we win the flag. I'll probably die.

God bless the Demons.

Of course we are!

There are so many fake AFL fans out there. I talk to them all the time. They go for teams like Hawthorn or Richmond but have no idea who a player is until he has actually played a game. They yell out 'Balllllll!!!' before a tackled has even been laid, then yell at the umpires for being useless.

We have been in such a sorry state for such a long time that all these fake fans have dropped off. It's just us battled hardened warriors who are left.

They will be back soon though......

I love reading these posts! A MCC member for fifty years and an MFC member for nearly as long, there is nothing as uplifting as reading these posts! This year should be inspiring yet I'm speaking at a conference in late September.

Taking it one week at a time, I am planning to return during the last week in September to watch our first "Twilight Grand Final"!

We have faith like no other. If you are still around after the 70's, early mid 80's, the last decade and the horror of two GF smashings... well, you are probably rusted on. I know I am.

It's you types of supporters that have been through the horror of the 70's-80's and the past 10 years, that deserve to see a flag the most.

The first game of the season has a fair bit to do with as well.

I reckon if we played the Tigers or Pies as the first game of the season at the 'G' we's be nudging similar attendances.

If we were playing anyone at the "G" I would be an attendee.

Will not be at Etihad

Beware... I lived through the late 60's... started barracking for Melbourne in '63 or '64.... was away overseas for most of 64 but I can remember a game at Glenferrie against Hawthorn late in 64.

The start of 65 was not too bad and then a friend came home breathlessly telling me how St Kilda beat Melbourne. If I recall we won few games after that and the decline began.

After the GF in 2000 I looked at the team and thought this was our time.... it wasn't.

Is now our time ..... perhaps but like the Bulldogs we will have to be lucky... we are not Hawthorn... that team built up dominance over 30 years... probbaly just like Melbourne in the fifties

To win as a Melbourne team you have to be good. Interstate teams have an easier home and away and therefore their chances of making the big one are higher.

Hope is a wonderful thing but blind faith is just that..........blind

Go Dees and let's hope we are there late in September

The ultimate riposte to that tedious 'going to the snow' nonsense we cop so often.  Our club's marketing department should set about mining this for all its worth:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/dees-supporters-are-afls-most-passionate-supporters-study/news-story/0a941fef2e6e555912f1214342a9a6e4

"Far from popular belief that they’d much rather be hitting the slopes than attend a game in the midst of winter, new research has found that Melbourne supporters are more likely to go to the footy than any other team... 48.7 per cent of Dees supporters attended AFL matches, followed by Tigers fans (38.7%) and Giants supporters (37.6%)."

Next thing is to get a survey done up at Bulla, find out that it's full of Collingwood and Hawthorn supporters, and publicise this fact

To be fair to Richmond, the report should point out it's hard to convert supporters into attendees when they're being held at Her Majesty's pleasure.

I actually believe the club's struggles over the past decade have made me more passionate.

Agree. Was having a discussion with a friend who barracks for Geelong. He wanted me to go to the movies during the Saints game in round 1 and I said no. He is so content to skip any random geelong game but couldn't believe I wouldnt dare miss a melbourne game even when I thought we would lose. I just asked him, what if we win? I wouldnt want to miss it! Clearly their era of dominance has him appreciating each win far less than we do.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
