Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The ultimate riposte to that tedious 'going to the snow' nonsense we cop so often.  Our club's marketing department should set about mining this for all its worth:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/dees-supporters-are-afls-most-passionate-supporters-study/news-story/0a941fef2e6e555912f1214342a9a6e4

"Far from popular belief that they’d much rather be hitting the slopes than attend a game in the midst of winter, new research has found that Melbourne supporters are more likely to go to the footy than any other team... 48.7 per cent of Dees supporters attended AFL matches, followed by Tigers fans (38.7%) and Giants supporters (37.6%)."

Next thing is to get a survey done up at Bulla, find out that it's full of Collingwood and Hawthorn supporters, and publicise this fact

Amen to that one binman.

The club is however concerned about the number of members attending home games.

I got an email today see my comments on the membership thread

Yep.

Most likely to go, and also go to other games.

Most likely to take out a membership.

Most likely to still turn up even during a rubbish season.

This has all been backed up by 'the data' (surveys, attendences, membership tallies etc) for many years, nice that it is now getting some recognition.

Will make knocking over the 'franchise' Giants in this years grand final all the sweeter! :)

We have faith like no other. If you are still around after the 70's, early mid 80's, the last decade and the horror of two GF smashings... well, you are probably rusted on. I know I am.

It be equally said that we are stupid UF.

What sane person would go through all that and come up for more?

Could've fooled me.

The report obviously overlooked the whopping 8,500 crowd we got to a recent home game on the Western fringe of the CBD.

We'll get about 34 Melbourne supporters at Etihad Stadium this weekend.

This is what the article is suggesting, though. We've got roughly 70 supporters, and 34 of them are going to the footy (48.7%)

One can however see the problem in the report.

Means we have the least upside in turning supporters into members and attendees. And of course as it is expressed in percentage terms rather than outright numbers it ignores the sheer dominance of the larger clubs. Adelaide has an almost entire city backing it.

We really need some success to improve our supporter base amongst the young .... 23 years between finals appearances and then 52 years since the last flag is an abysmal performance.

Perhaps we need to market ourselves as a boutique club for the thinking supporter ...... a glass of pinot anyone?

Our ratio of supporters to members has always dwarfed the likes of Collingwood and Essendon too.

It would be fantastic to see some of those numbers converted. Maybe a little taste of success this year might awaken this sleeping giant again.

It is not a lack of passion that keeps  people from  Etihad BBP

It is a dose of sanity.

Hi old dee, is this merely an assumption based on the email, or have you heard something independent of the email? Fwiw, the Club's had a similar promotion re: 'rewards' for attendance in past seasons. Were we also 'concerned' then?

As an aside, the Western Bulldogs are spending more on membership marketing etc than in previous seasons. Would you characterise that as them being 'concerned'?

Richmond supporters are the most deluded.

They are great. Two games in a row won and they are gonna win the flag. Two games in a row lost and the coach, players and board must go. A wonderfully emotional lot that makes the rest of the passionate look balanced.

The Ben Cousins rally was the best. That was the tail wagging the dog. Great to see, and so glad it wasn't us.

Richmond v Carlton  tomorrow night.... they are talking 75,000

Richmond.... mid -level 9-14

Carlton 17-18

We can only dream of such crowds

The first game of the season has a fair bit to do with as well.

I reckon if we played the Tigers or Pies as the first game of the season at the 'G' we's be nudging similar attendances.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
