Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

who is our biggest rival? do we even have one? I know Collingwood is an old arch rival but to them (today's pie fans) they don't give a toss about us nor think we have a rivalry..

The few Collingwood supporters who still think we are rivals all live in nursing homes with advanced dementia and colostomy bags.

I think this is the most likely one we will have. Especially if both teams reach/surpass expectations this season and both put on a good display this weekend. We just have to beat them a few times first.

I still have my eyes on the Giants, even if they are a few steps ahead of us. They took all the best young players when we needed them most. I'd love to reach our peak and start to push their AFL gifted talent vs our hard earned talent.
But right now it will have to be the saints, they are the comparison so the rivalry is kinda being forced upon us.

Oldest team v newest team. Has a kind of symmetry to it.

I like it.

I have a couple of Collingwood supporting mates (yeah, I know... shoot me now) and for the last decade they'd rag me about living in the past, QB is your GF... blah blah blah... but when we started beating them... well, the tone has changed. Now they are talking up the importance of QB, and how they will get revenge this year. It's their GF at the moment. Or at least SF with Anzac as the GF.

As an aside I'd always love when they say it's our GF. I reply that our GF's against them brought us six flags and them one. Real GF's. They go quiet at that point.

Which hasn't happened in the last three games !!!  After the latest of those three, I said to my Collingwood supporting students " Welcome to the era of Collingwood never beating Melbourne ever again. "  Have I gone too early on that prediction ??   Hope not !

hard to think of a modern day rival but for the past 20 years Id go with the Bombers.  Maybe its just coz I hate them so much but I find there is a bit extra bite to the clashes usually.

As a kid of the 80's I hate Hawthorn, always have and always will. They are my main rival, with the drug cheats not far behind. I am just hoping they drop off the face of the planet and we smash them for the next decade.

A moot point.

Given Melbourne's record over a 50 year period, I don't think there is a "biggest rivalry."

At least from the other side, as our club has such low credibility with opposition supporters.

Over the past 10 years, I reckon the Tigers go close. There are good crowds, the result is always uncertain and the Tigers also have a record of failure over many years. Supporters of both sides are always desperate to win this one and there have been some close games.

For older supporters, I suspect the Collingwood rivalry is probably still the big one, however, I don't think this is shared on the Collingwood side with Carlton and Essendon seen as the big games.

Strong rivalries can only develop over time if both sides have a sustained record of success.

I agree with those saying there is no real traditional rivalry existing any more... with the possible exception of the one game each year against the Pies on Queen's Birthday.  I can however see a three way rivalry building between us, the 'Aints and the Bulldogs to be the dominant Victorian based team.  All three have strong young lists now that are likely to be competing against each other for the next decade.

The way media commentators talk it up nowadays it that almost every team is one-another's biggest rival.

There's 18 teams in the competition and the whole concept is diluted for me because of that and until we get to the pointy end of the competition and have a rivalry with another club, similar to the Hawks/Cats/Swans level, I just can't see anything of note.

Personally, I despise the Giants over all others.

We will build rivalries when we are once again seen as a threat... hopefully soon.

They are all rivals.

I once had pity for The Bulldogs but that's done.

Personally I hate Hawthorn so I'd like us to demolish them regularly.

We owe everyone payback for our long period in the wilderness.

Would be nice to beat Saints,Norf and the Eagles just for something different.

This..  I hate them all.

Want them to suffer and be afraid of playing us.

And for us to humiliate them repeatedly.

If I had to narrow it down equal first would be Dons - GWS - Hawks - Cats this year.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
