Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

JONATHAN BROWN’S TOP 10 FORWARDS AS OF ROUND 1, 2017

  • 1. Tom Lynch (Gold Coast Suns)
  • 2. Lance Franklin (Sydney Swans)
  • 3. Josh Kennedy (West Coast Eagles)
  • 4. Eddie Betts (Adelaide)
  • 5. Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn)
  • 6. Taylor Walker (Adelaide)
  • 7. Toby Greene (GWS Giants)
  • 8. Jarryd Roughead (Hawthorn)
  • 9. Tom Hawkins (Geelong)
  • 10. Jack Riewoldt (Richmond)

You haven't misread it, there is no Jesse!

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/jonathan-brown-nominates-his-top-10-afl-forwards-heading-into-2017-season-with-some-notable-exclusions/news-story/a3231c9890b044ea022b5100fcbd1350

I think the top 4 are about right and I would put Greene a few spots higher than 7.  But to include Roughead who plays upfield and hasn't played for a year, and include Hawkins and Riewoldt who had ordinary seasons for a couple of years is stretching it.

On 2015 and 2016 form Jesse should be in the bottom half of that list.  I look forward to Brown 'eating his words' when Jesse has a huge 2017season.

LH why are you surprised? All of Melbourne's list is under-rated except for Max Gawn. I am happiest that way!

On actual output to date Hogan shouldn't be on that list yet. Even in a down Year last year Hawkins kicked nearly ten more goals. Roughead is a jet and deserves to be there assuming he is fit to play. Riewoldt is a former Coleman medallist who also kicked more goals than Jesse last year in a dud team.

Some other seriously good forwards like Jack Gunston don't make the list either.

I think Jesse will move into the top five on that list before long but I like that our players are starting to be judged on output rather than potential.

Looks fair to me. Amazing Toby Greene is so good given he can only kick 35m. Would love to see a longest kick comp between him and Scully.

If it was a list of forwards you would draft now in order now Hogan would be in the top few.

True but I would have Tom Lynch at the top of both my draft now and current best lists

I don't think it's an outrageous list tbh. You can't fit everyone in and they are all senior players in the comp bar Lynch who is a star and Greene who is AA. If for example he had included Daniher and not Hogan then it'd be an eyebrow raiser.

What does it really matter anyway? Brown was the one championing Hogan to be paid over $1m a year. He rates him very highly.

Spot on, I'm more surprised anyone here actually thinks Hogan is in the top 10. He has played 2 promosing years but lets see him crack the 50 goal mark before we even consider putting him along side these guys.

Taylor Walker is more over rated than pic-nics.

It's an interesting one, Betts Rioli and Greene obviously aren't a like-for-like rating to Hogan, and all three are surely top-10 forwards.

Franklin, Kennedy and Lynch were obviously the benchmark for tall forwards in 2016.

I would hope that Hogan would solidly push into that top 10 this year, and I expect he'll be the best of a good crop of young key forwards coming through.

What would make me happier would be to see Hogan become the Demons' first career-long consistent goalkicker. Even our very best have been up and down for various reasons.

David Neitz - a 5-year run earning 323 goals from 2002-2006 is the best effort of the AFL era.

Indeed, the best effort since Norm Smith, who bagged 354 from 1937 to 1941.

That's right, Jesse Hogan offers Melbourne something the club didn't even have during 'the' glory days, you have to go all the way back to the 'other' glory days!

That'd be enough for me.

Who really cares about Brown's opinion anyway?

It will make no difference to how we perform.    But if Jesse does care about the opinion, hopefully it will fire him up to prove JB wrong.

Unbelievable. Tomahawk is a terrible, Vickery, Tom Boyd like footballer. All three aren't even as good as Jesse is now. But because Tomahawk kicked a few goals in a final or two Brownie feels he owes him a mention. I bet opposition teams, coaches and fans would be pleased to see Hawkins against them... whereas Jesse I think makes you a bit concerned on what to do with matchups. I think in years to come it'll be Lynch and Hogan duking it out, with pies fans confused why Moore isn't mentioned with them... Next rung down a whole bunch of Daniher, Cameron types.

TBH though I think even Jesse and Lynch will, before too long, be overshadowed somewhat by the unbelievable small forwards coming through. Heeney type ones, and any one of about 6 GWS players.

no Jeremy Cameron either

I would have both him and Hogan ahead of that soft clown Jack Riewoldt.

2010 - 78 goals, 2011 - 62 goals, 2012 - 65 goals, 2013 - 58 goals, 2014 - 61 goals, 2015 - 54 goals, 2016 - 48 goals.

carry on...

Would be good to debate the best young forwards coming through.

Jesse would be top of the list. Daniher can't kick and McCartin hasn't developed yet. Schache still has promise but is still unknown

If Daniher misses out because he "can't kick" I'm afraid Hogan might have to miss for the same reason. Neither Daniher or Hogan are reliable kicks for goal but both get the ball often enough that they can still make this list sooner rather than later. But not yet.

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
