Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hibberd looked very good. Sprinted close to full pace. Almost certain to play at Casey this week. Frost's training was ramped up later in the session. Plenty of one one one, sprints and fast lap running. Asked, and was given permission to kick on his left foot which he did with apparent ease. A chance for Sunday but round one unlikely. Looks very focused though.

I got there late so I missed the rehab group.

Watts hurt his shoulder near the end and didn't finish the session. Looked like a stinger but I guess time will tell. The forwards where doing a drill where Chaplin kicked the ball up to 2 players from about 30 out and they both flew for the mark. Hulett came in from one side and shifted Watts in the air with his body and he landed pretty heavily on his shoulder. Too be honest it looked to be a pretty dangerous drill so I wasn't all the surprised when someone went down.

Goodwin spent a long time with Oscar McDonald near the end of the session getting him to spoil Max one on one. He actually did pretty well, made some nice left hand spoils, held his ground and put his body in. Then Goodwin and Oscar were practising rapid fire short kicking on both sides of the body. They've often taken Oscar aside for some agility stuff before, so it seems the senior coach is continuing that theme of getting him moving. He has the skills so he just needs the intensity.

Petracca, Brayshaw, Tommy Mc, Kennedy and Oliver did a kicking drill together.

Kent provided some energy in the match simulation drills (10 v 7 using the corridor only). When it's on his kicking is a weapon.

Hannan still a chance for rd 1 IMO, just offers something different to the rest of those in the half forward mix.

Garlett training well, mostly with the main group but also did a few laps at good pace.

I'm a big fan of Hannon. I watched a few VFL games last year and he looked a lively prospect. I'm not sure if he was injured but I was surprised he wasn't given a run during the JLT series. I think he provides some X-factor, which is exactly what our forward line lacked over the pre-season.

I doubt he's in the coaches minds for round 1 but I'm sure we'll see him at some stage this year.

Pedo train ? A chance for a round one call up I wonder??

I got there for about 40 minutes and at one stage Max, Spencil and Pedo were doing a drill where a coach kicked the ball high for a contested marking situation in pairs, Max vs Spencil then Pedo v Max, Spencil v Pedo with Greg Stafford providing advice on body positioning each time. To me this was working on their contested forward marking skills as the resting ruck, deep in the forward line. Does it mean that Spencil or Pedo are in the mix as back up to Max? Who knows.

The rest of the sessions while I was there were several quarter ground keepings off drills 5 attacking vs 4 defending, sometimes kicking, sometimes only handball. It all looked very sharp. One early drill they were using their non preferred foot. Mitch King was in full training even though he was listed as a LTI a few weeks ago I thought.

I would have liked to see a bit more full ground simulation to get a feel for the game plan and who might be lining up where but no indication from today's drills. They might occur at one of those closed sessions at Gosch's.

Looked fit and fully involved. Providing a reasonable hit out at Casey I would have him up forward v StKilda. No Weideman or Spencer.

IMO Spencer has given himself every chance of playing R1 alongside Max. He's had a very good preseason and impressive community cup games. I always thought he was ruck insurance, but I'm coming around to thinking that there might be a case for playing him over Pedo. Maybe that's partly because we haven't seen Pedo in the C Cup games. It's certainly one of the more interesting selection dilemmas as we turn into the season proper.

What days & times is training normally on? I would like to go and watch one day this week or next.

You may have a better chance next week, assume they will have one well publicised pre Rd 1 session, today was only Open Session and the first on a Tuesday, there is a Casey prsctice game coming up over the weekend if you live down that way

Will people be asked to leave if they attend a non-open training session?

No they can't at Gosch's it is a public space and I went to one session that was unannounced last month by accident, I just riding past in hope. I noticed a few coaches looking at me and I think there was one other spectator but unfortunately there was no IP on display, it was just a low key run around after the camp in Maroochydore.

For whatever reason, I can see them picking Spencer & Weideman and dropping Watts.

Rightly or wrongly, being pushed aside by Hulett in a marking contest is exactly the sort of thing that won't go down well with Goodwin.

And whatever the drawbacks, which are obvious to many of us, to picking Spencer, they simply won't let it go. And to simulate a true marking contest in the square, they'll need one tall defender in front, one body-to-body and one coming over the back. One-on-one duels in the goal square simply won't happen unless we move the ball about twice as fast as we've done so far.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Harrison Petty, JvR, Jack Billings, Kade Chandler, Kozzy, Bayley Fritsch, and coach Stafford.  The backs join them, Steven May, Jake Lever, Woey, Judd McVee, Blake Howes, Tom McDonald

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
