Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

While we seem to have tamed Etihad and won 3 of 4 games this year, it is still taking an almighty toll on our players.

The soft tissue injuries to our most valuable players (Gawn/Jones) happened there.

That ground is costing us big time!

Saints play there every 2nd week and have the lowest injury list in the league

What is it with Etihad there seems to be more serious injuries there than anywhere else. Can it just be down to the hardness of the surface....anyone got any stats to back this up?

Jesse Hogan is dealing with cancer and not some ordinary soft tissue injury. The situation has to be dealt with sensibly and with due sensitivity. This involves dealing not only with the physical but with the psychological side of things that often demands patience and time. In that regard, the timeline has come down from "indefinite" to 4 - 6 weeks and as fans, we should be accepting of that.

Think you may have gone a little earnest on this WJ.

Thought Jones' issue was groin? Didn't know the calf bone is connected to the hip bone!

The quads start at the front of the hip and extend to the calf bone via the patella and its tendon, so, technically, they are connected via the quad

It's his quad....

He's only missed 5 games since his debut, unbelievable

Very resilient.  Will look forward to his return, though I hope that there is a hard decision re whom to drop :-)

It's a quad strain.

How does Josh Kennedy blow up his leg and miss 2-3 and our soft tissues miss 4-6?

It's almost every time too. Gawn was a standard 4 week string...of course it then ends up being 12!

I guess it may be because no two injuries are the same.

Is it the ground?  Always though it was, but how do the Saints, Norf and Footscray injury lists compare, especially re soft tissue injuries?

Non MFC related injury, but Jaeger O'Mearas knee seems utterly stuffed. Might be shut down for the season. Hawks really screwed up, doubt his knee will ever come good.

While I really feel for O'Mearas, this couldn't have happened to a better club... suck on it hard Hawthorn!

The list is getting longer and some players seem to be going backwards. Jesse Hogan has gone from 426 to indefinite (not sure what that means) and Lochie Filipovic is out to 3 weeks.

And Big Max ... he's back!!!

Melbourne injury list: round 14

Angus Brayshaw (concussion) – indefinite
Lochie Filipovic (hip flexor) – 3 weeks
Col Garland (knee) – season
Max Gawn (hamstring) – available
Jesse Hogan (testicular cancer) – indefinite
Jayden Hunt (shoulder) – available
Neville Jetta (ankle) – available
Nathan Jones (quadriceps) – 4-6 weeks
Pat McKenna (hamstring) – 6-8 weeks
Joel Smith (shoulder) – 2 weeks
Tim Smith (navicular bone) – season
Aaron vandenBerg (heel) – season
Jack Watts (hamstring tightness) – test

Not all good news dc - he said Jonesy out for another 5 weeks!  That means a return of round 21.

But Jonesy being as tough as he is, will be doing his best to get back much earlier!

I'm excited to see that Joel smith is back to play in the VFL this week, would love him to get back into some form. Really feel he can bring yet another dimension to our defence!

Dont want to jinx anything, but I've found myself less concerned about injuries this season than in seasons past.

Gawn goes down, followed soon after by Spencil, and we figure out an entire new way to play in such a scenario.

Hogan is out long term, up steps TMac which in turn gives OMac more game time than he might otherwise have had and he is blossoming too.

Other guys like Hannan, Harmes & ANB are also stepping up beautifully in the absence of others.

Silver linings!

That said, the sooner we get Jones, Salem, Hogan, Brayshaw & co back the better!

I'm starting to like that idea of the bye after round 22

Jones to play in the VFL during the bye ... imagine the crowd !!

Its an interesting one isnt it, that bye.... Looking like its definitely on that we will make the finals....last year we fell in a hole at the end of the season, so therefore should be invaluable to our young troops. That said it didnt seem to suit some sides last year, although im not really sure why... Traditionally we havent done that well after a bye and we were awfully flat in that first half after the bye against GC.

Maybe a bit earlier:

Round 14 plus 5 = 19, hopefully returns for round 20.

Injuries are part of every team, we are fortunate enough that it provides us with an opportunity to rewards players who have been putting in, in the VFL. We have had quite a few good players out and others have stepped up and shown they too have a future with the dees. We will have a few outs this week but I think we have some excellent backups that we do just as well.

Agreed. Listening to Goodwin, the club has planned for injuries.

These kids get their turn to step up...

the Swans are not quick. We can win.

They will be sore after last weekend as well

It's unusual to have the injury list out so early and it's an interesting one. Jesse Hogan's situation has gone up and down like a yo-yo. He's gone from "indefinite" to "4-6 weeks" to "indefinite" and now is a "test" for Friday night. Joel Smith is back at Casey this week but Christian Salem's out for a month. A few tests have to be passed this week.

Melbourne injury list: round 15

Angus Brayshaw (concussion) – indefinite
Lochie Filipovic (hip) – 4 weeks
Colin Garland (knee) – season
Jeff Garlett (hamstring) – test
Jesse Hogan (testicular cancer) – test
Nathan Jones (quadriceps) – 4-5 weeks
Pat McKenna (hamstring) – 4-5 weeks
Christian Salem (hamstring) – 3-4 weeks
Joel Smith (shoulder) – available
Tim Smith (navicular bone) – season
Aaron vandenBerg (heel) – season
Jack Viney (shoulder) – available
Jack Watts (hamstring) – test

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
