Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Get Gus back at the G.

We've missed him.

Did Trenners have multiple concussions as well?

Both going down the same road for different injury causes. We all know Trenners foot injury and declining pace and it's a big ask for a player who can't take serious knocks to expect him to take more. Unless we trade him to Carlton of course.

In his presser this morning, Goody indicated that Gus will play back (presumably BP or HBF) for Casey this weekend.  I like that approach.  The more 'straight ahead' role, as opposed to being 'in the thick of the action', will hopefully assist in building his confidence and form on the road back to being the Gus most us see as a lock in our best 22 when he is right.

Concussions are an issue but his lack of speed to get to contests and woeful field kicking under zero pressure are far bigger concerns - he's a mid rotation who based upon 2016-17 doesn't get much of it and doesn't use it well.

I need to come to young Gus' defence.

If those comments are based on 2016/2017 its rather harsh...he played only 12 games of the possible 29, The 10 in 2016 were interrupted by injury.  Roos said later they brought him back too quickly after injury early in 2016.  In 2017 he took a hit in the 2nd game, dropped, then injured.

The valid body of work is 2015 when he played 21 of 22 games and touted as a gun.  From what I recall he was often in the thick of the contest and a very good kick.  He is a much better kick than the likes of Viney, Jones, Tyson etc  He is also a smarter player than those guys...how often in 2015 did he perfectly place the ball for Jeffy to run onto, race in to kick a goal...

@Grand New Flag reported a few weeks ago (paraphrasing) that Gus was physically ok but needed to get his head space right regarding putting his head over the ball.  I think we can all understand that.

Regarding the concussions, Salem has had a few and he has bounced back and I think Gus can too, then he will recover his 2015 form and be the gun some of us think he will be.

Give him time to recover, DA.

I aiways have a chat with Gus, knocked out myself half a dozen times when playing, he understands everybody's concern these days

The last knock frustrated him as it was behind play, hence the joke about the magnet

He has no issue with putting his head in harms way again, just wants to play

No Moon, what he means is that he was injured and there's no quick certain path to recovery like there hasn't been for Brayshaw.

I think an area where posters are quite unfair on gus is his possession numbers.

His midfield time is quite low so I think it's unfair to expect him to get 30 touches until that increases.

At vfl level he consistently gets big numbers but at afl level he is quite consistent around the 18 possession mark, playing off a flank mostly.

Yes if it's to get rid of him but it's not silly if it gets us someone we really need.

True but i think midfield depth is just super important now days. I wouldn't give up on him just yet. Some players just take a bit of time as we have seen with Scott Thompson and Jimmy Bartel.

His upside is huge.

If trading Gus gave us the ability to get someone like Steven May or Jake Lever to the club we'd have to look at the option,

I love Gus as a player and i wouldn't even consider trading him unless it meant getting a ready to go A grade player in return.

Yes I understand that. My post should have used Demonland's new sarcasm font. My fail.

I was trying to indicate that comparing Trenners foot injury and Gus' concussions isn't apples with apples. They are not "the same path", the treatment and outcomes cannot be compared without using the broadest of brushes.

I compare Brayshaws first couple of years to Scott Thompson. In four years with the Dees Thompson careers was just littered with injuries and form and could barely get on the park.

He played 39 games in 4 years. After he got traded to the crows Thommo had a break out year in his 5th year and played the whole season.

Brayshaw is in the exact same spot and currently on 31 games who's also had his career filled with injuries and form. I can see him coming back in the AFL over the next couple of weeks and playing a good stretch of games.

I too also think Brayshaw will make huge strides next year and we'll show the AFL world why we took him high in the draft. The trade talk is just plain silly and ridiculous.

Totally different injuries and therefore no reason to compare their career projections.

I seem to recall Patrick Dangerfield having concussion worries earlier in his career, maybe even up until just a few years ago.

He hasnt had one since - is this just dumb luck or did he modify his game somehow? He is obviously still as ferocious as ever and nobody hits contests harder or faster.  Perhaps Gus should give him a call.

I read a Paul Roos comment a few weeks ago, they got him to pick that draft year again, he said he would take Gus at 1, Track at 2 and Paddy at 3. Shows you how highly Roos rates Gus, and I'm with Roos on this one.

He also placed a bid on heeney so at the time they clearly rated heeney in the top 3, which isn't surprising because I think he would have gone pick 1 comfortably in an open draft

I believe he was cleared to play last week, but apparently the club has an "extra week" policy on concussion.

Paul Roos' bias is frustrating, even as a dees supporter.

I think he is so over the top bias on the radio during our games that it's silly.

God I'm loving it as well!!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
