Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Let me just say that i saw this on twitter just then by Mark Stevens that we are hosting our season launch tonight.

1st question.. Why the [censored] has there been hardly any advertisement on the MFC website about the season launch dates and times? If it wasn't for Stevo i wouldn't have known it would be on?

2nd question is can someone who goes tonight please do a running update of the night. Love to hear what Goody say and also PJ about our jumper sponser at the back.

Cheers.

It may be announced that Smith has been elevated to the senior list. But anyhow - there it is. Announcement shortly.

If it happens, I'll be close to the action because Joel Smith assume that's the Smith you're thinking about) and Max Gawn are on my table.

Er ... actually I'm on their table.

Any chance you can ask Gawn how he feels about having a second ruckman in the side?

WJ - I thought you had more sway at the club. Gawn most outstanding player for Melbourne in the league for a long time but he is no Daisy.

Was a good night.

Hosted by Robbo, who struggled to get laughs, but all the other speakers did a good job, Bartlett mainly thanking all the various stakeholders and sponsors, PJ focussing on footy only and saying he was pleased that the club was now in a position to be able to do that (focus on footy) and that good times are ahead.

Gus did a late-night-talk-show thing with the two skippers, with Jack repeating old stories he's told before, such as falling off the roof while pretending to be Batman, and how he moved out with his girlfriend into a place just a few hundred metres away from his folks, which he loved at first (mum doing his washing and cooking) but now regrets (Todd's always there playing with his dog when he wakes up).

Gus asked both for their breakout player of the year; Jack nominated Clarry, Jones said he was going for a smokey in Dion Johnstone. For those who doubted (or still doubt) whether Clarry was in the naughty corner at the start of pre-season, Jack confirmed it, saying he "got a lot of feedback", and had taken it all on board and trained really well after that point.

Goody said he's confident about our prospects and repeated his mantra about fearless team football.

For what it's worth, Viney confidently told me he expects Weideman to play round 1. He doesn't know me from a bar of soap, and even if he did, I'd hardly expect to get the skinny on selection news when we're 3 weeks out, but he was far more circumspect when I asked him whether we'd be playing 2 rucks.

Random part of the night was a performance by an Indigenous hip-hop group to kickstart proceedings, highlight for me was, as always, seeing the great RDB, who turned 81 last week but doesn't look a day over 65. Bluey Adams, Noel McMahen, and Hassa Mann were some of the other legends in the room.

No word on the back of jumper sponsor.

Great report.

With regards to your two questions...

It makes sense Weideman will play, because he's been preferred in a "best 24", hasn't been a liability, and will only improve with further exposure at the highest level.  It doesn't make sense to pick him throughout the preseason and then mothball him for round one.

It doesn't make sense to play both Gawn and Spencer, because Spencer isn't a ruck/forward or forward/ruck.  He's a ruck only.  We'll be as good as a man down on a fast deck at Etihad by playing Spencer.  Gawn can ruck 80-85% and I'd rather improvise the other 15-20% than play Spencer.  I expect Watts to play and in turn take the odd ruck contest.

A bit late to the party, I assume there was no mention of what is going on with the back of jumper sponsor? Pretty ridiculous if we can't get it sorted by round 1 (in less than 3 weeks). I'm surprised there's been so little comment on the issue.

While I do like the idea of us earning money through sponsorship, I also really like the look of jumpers without added corporate branding. It's not all downside if we don't get a back of jumper sponsor.

A million bucks a year in the club coffers or the "look" of a small part of the back of our jumper. I know which I'd prefer.

We sell 2 games a year to NT. Pretty sure top tier sponsors aren't optional.

On another note I see TAC have parted ways with the Cats. Get on the phone PJ.

It's a dance Gonzo. The sponsors know they'll get a better deal the longer they wait. The club says "here is the deal" take it before someone else does...

The club has been good at not discounting its main inventory. Once you do that (as we did in the dark years) its very difficult to get top dollar again.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
