Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How he is not in the Demonland banner I do not know. Better than anyone up there, including Daisy.

Has got to the stage where I just watch him, knowing that the rest of the game will take care of itself.

It''s strange, I wouldn't have his number on my back, but I think he will be one of the greats of the MFC. Perhaps I should put his number on my back?

Hats off to Uncle Fester for his early call.

He needs to kick more often.  His refusal to kick cost us repeatedly today.  That little farce with Hogan where they just handballed to each other until they got caught was idiotic, as was his handball receive and run down the boundary ending in being tackled out of bounds for a HTB against.  I don't know why he won't kick, because he's actually quite good at it.  Whatever the reason, they need to get it sorted.

Both times there was absolutely nobody to kick to, with no-one offering an option. It was a very common theme today. When players did offer an option, they were well covered by Blues flood defence.

If Clarry gets an option he will usually take it first time.

What %age of game time was a Clarry on the ground for yesterday?

83%, the most of any midfielder surprisingly enough.

So now that he's mastered disposals and built a tank, let's start asking when he'll add goals to his game. Should have 20 by  round 7...

Disagree. He set Hogan up for a crunching tackle by refusing to kick in that situation. It was a hospital handpass without the elevation.

We were pressing hard and he had to kick looking for a contest in that situation. The classic opportunistic goal was Weideman off a marking contest in the goal square a few minutes later, and before you say yes but that was a Hogan contest, we did have players inside 50 who could have created a contest if Clarry had gone the boot.

What would you rather have: a contest inside attacking 50 or the rebound goal that resulted directly from that round-robin episode with Hogan and Oliver?

That Hogan-crunched incident would not be so significant if Clarry had not over-handballed all day. I gave him one vote in the player of the round for his winning of the ball which was sensational, but only one vote because he created over-use.

OK Just checked replay. We had SIX players inside 50 seconds before Clarry set up Hogan for that crunch: Hannan (who flew for the previous contest), Watts, Neal-Bullen, Viney, Tyson and at least one other and also in the area was Petracca so the no option line does not hold up in IM(humble)O.

It feels a little bit like nitpicking to criticise a 19 year old with his second consecutive 35 possession game, who also marks and tackles, for a bit of ball overuse in a game where our forward line was cramped and dysfunctional.

I understand the criticism is intended to be constructive, but boy are we setting the bar high. I expect these sorts of issues will be resolved with experience. He's a baby still and already our best player.

Agree Nasher.

And it has been Clayton himself who has set the bar at that exalted level.

I hope the coach was as livid about that as I was. Where the hell were Watts and Gawn?

Gawn was off the ground. Both teams only had three in the middle, umpire wouldn't let Watts in (assume he was told not to come into the square although don't know why ) so he was standing at CHF.

As a team, we really need to back ourselves in and look for the first option. We seem to overuse our handballs and look to walk our goals through as opposed to just backing yourself in and having a ping for goal. We always look to dish it off when instead the players should be kicking for goal...

Yes that was strange. It was after the blue and Watts appeared confused about whether to go into the middle where we had only three players so its interesting the umpire would not let him in. Sorry off topic but it did give Clarry one more touch. Let's see if he is more willing to kick next week.

Watts was involved in the scuffle at the top of our goal square for too long, they wouldn't let him in as it would have delayed the bounce.

A game like that is the best possible training environment.  Great learning opportunity and we still walk away with 4 points.

The player Oliver reminds me the most is Greg Williams. DIfferent players from different eras but have similar impact around the stoppages. Quick of mind, hands and decision making.

He is quicker than Williams which I admit is not saying much, and overall will be a cut above him in the future. He will be one for the ages I have no doubt. Our mid field in two or three years time will be unstoppable.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
