Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You're unhappy but not unhappy enough to stand by your principles?

Don't worry I am. What would you know about principles anyway?  I have already paid up and can't get my money back so at $13 or so a game I will watch the Demon games I don't attend or are on channel 7.  Once the season is over subscription cancelled permanently.

For the internationals - the Fox overseas subscription works fine ($149 euro), which while not small beer and is more than last year, I can live with. It also offers all the Fox Footy shows, some of which I like to watch. I also like that I don't have to buy any other cable package. But this was a lesson to check the T&C carefully and I thank the original poster for drawing attention to it.

Have you had any luck streaming to your TV?

here is another workaround option which should work..

1. Download Opera web browser (free built-in VPN) avail on laptop/tablet/phone

2. Sign up to the free trial https://www.watchafl.com.au/

3. Watch footy on laptop (via Opera browser) or tablet (Watch AFL app - with Opera VPN activated) you should be able to stream to TV if you have appleTV/chromecast

4. If the above works, buy an international club membership (Dees is AU$185) which comes with annual WatchAFL pass,

Signed up as telstra customer so it was free but am having major issues with the login not registering as a "paid" customer when i log in via an ipad or any other device. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes. Currently you can only use your live pass on the device you first registered with. A technical problem apparently that they have said they will resolve before the start of the AFL season. So if you loaded it on your tiny phone as i did you are stuck with that option (or chrome casting it, something I've yet to do because i don't have one)

Hopeless and if you had purchased your live pass (as opposed to a Tesltra account) even more annoying as you are not getting what you paid for (eg the capacity to watch replays on your PC, something which i want to do - in fact if i can't watch a game i will do a media blackout and watch 'live' as soon as i can after the 12 hours post game it is loaded. I will have this issue on Sat as i can't watch the blues game.) I'll bet they won't offer any pro rata refund

Made worse by their communication about the issue. Spoke to their call centre twice. Clueless. Spent about 2 hours on my tablet and pc trying to gwt my live pass. Sent emails. Goigled it in the end to find the answer. Hopeless

I haven't read the entire thread so apologies if someone has already said this:

a) yes, it's a [censored] disgrace

b) if you use chromecast from a phone (not a tablet), you can enlarge the stream without the corresponding 'black lines'. As long as you cast to a screen that isn't huge, the resolution looks fine. I use a 40 inch TV in my bedroom instead of the 70 in the living room and it looks fine.

Instructions on how to watch:

1 - buy a chromcast, install on tv (as I said, 40 inch works well). TV needs HDMI in and that's it. Wifi network also required for streaming.
2 - download the chromcast app (now called home)
3 - Run the app, set up to link with the chromecast you have purchased (Set up is easy over wifi)
4 - Select 'cast screen/audio' within the chromecast [home] app
5 - With the app still running, run the AFL Live App version 2017.massive.ripoff and start your video stream
6 - Squeal with delight as your phone is mirrored on your TV, audio and all.

Tips:
- use your phone for volume control first, then your TV if it's still too quiet. Otherwise you end up with your TV set to 998 and if you forget to change it you'll be in for a loud shock when you start casting.. er... 'other' internet content.
- plug your phone into a charger or it'll go flat by the time the game is done

Issues:
1 - the bigger your TV, the worse the stream looks. As I said, 40 inch looks fine. Any bigger and you get pixelation.
2 - audio can be a little behind at times. Worst I got was about a second, which is fine for footy.
3 - chromecast cannot correct for:
             - the AFL app deciding to swap which Foxtel channel it's streaming (seriously does happen occasionally)
             - slow wifi (a good router is a massive help)
             - AFL commentators

Sorry to drag this one up again, but has anyone else confirmed that using an iPhone/iPad to a Chromecast does actually work with the new AFL app restrictions? I just want to be sure before I go out and buy one!

Thanks

The writing is on the wall at Foxtel, they have had a strong hold on the Australian Market for so long they are doing everything they can to keep customers buying there product now there is finally some serious compatition like Netflix and Stan stealing there big piece of the pie.

I decided to subscribe to Foxtel after reading this blog as I don't really want to watch a poor quality 2 inch football game on my 7 inch IPad, watching it in HD on my new 65 inch TV is a much better idea.

When I called Foxtel I planned to negotiate pretty hard, I sale for a living and feel this is a strong trade of mine, with out even trying they gave me the managment special. This included,

NO LOCK IN CONTRACT, FREE INSTALL, FREE IQ2 BOX AND THE FIRST MONTH FREE WITH ALL CHANNELS.

Never have I heard of Foxtel giving away a deal this good!??

The last time I got Foxtel for the Footy Channel 4 years ago the best deal going was $45 a month for the spots channels on a 12 month contract, then after the 12 months was up the spots package went up to $55.

It is quite obvious they are getting desperate and trying to do everything the can to get new customers in the door as there is now a lot of cheaper and better alternatives.

I can tell you right now once that first month is up I will push to get the sports package cheaper then $55 a month.

Go to the home screen of home app. In the left corner you will see 3 bars. This is a menu. When you tap it it brings up your details and near the top is the cast audio/screen option

Can't speak for iPhone, but the in android tap the menu icon in the very top left (looks like 3 horizontal bars).

This brings up a drop menu, the first option should be "cast screen/audio".

I can confirm it works on android as I did this again for the Carlton game on Saturday. Can't test on iPhone since I don't have one.

If you do give it a go, use the phone to cast and not the tablet, as casting the screen from the tablet will result in a smaller picture because of the new restrictions.

I dosn't work on IPhones and you need a certain Android phone for is to work as well, unfortunately my HTC X is not on the list of being about to cast the screen.

I have no buffering issues on any device for 2 reasons:

1 - Fibre to the home NBN

2 - Netgear Nighthawk Router http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R7000.aspx This is overkill for video streaming, but I wanted something fast as I game a lot (or used to) and will likely 4k stream in the future. TBH any dual band 802.11ac router will be ok, as long as it's placed well with little interference between the devices.

It's hard to tell if buffering is caused by a slow router or crummy internet. The easiest way to determine what's going on is to grab a big ethernet cable and plug your TV right into the router. If buffering still occurs, it's likely your internet. If it fixes the issue, upgrade the router to one with faster wireless (and check for interference in the line of sight between the TV and router).

Many thanks choke.

It seems my very old Smart TV is not fully compatible with Chromecast and its too old for 'screen mirroring' on the Smart phone to function.

So may I ask your thoughts on a few things:

1  I was wondering if a mini-HDMI/Adapter (from smart phone with AFL Live app) to HDMI cable/port on TV will work, (theoretically, eliminating the need for chromecast).

Cheers

wow, must be pretty old! Pretty sure all Chromecast needs from the TV is an HDMI in. Maybe it's not compatible with HDMI 1? I dunno.

Yes, my understanding is that a mini-usb to HDMI adaptor/cable will output the screen to a TV. I've never done this personally, and I think you'll need to make sure both your phone and the TV's HDMI port you're plugging into support MHL.

Tagging @Clintosaurus as he's posted on this solution previously.

don't think your tv's hdmi port needs to support mhl (most won't)

just make sure your cable includes a built mhl to hdmi adapter.....or you add a separate mhl to hdmi dongle to your tv's hdmi port

most newer ones have one HDMI port that will support MHL. Mine does at least, it's about a year old

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
