Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's kind of irksome missing a vital sponsor. Aside from the money it adds to the general perception we are second rate and no one cares. We have to start winning emphatically and playing with spirit to get that loser monkey off our back. I'm sure those two disgraceful performances at the end of last season have hurt us in this regard. Difficult for potential sponsors to associate with us given the image we present on the field.  I hope something comes up soon.

What is disappointing is this happened a few years ago. If I remember right we had reach as our "sponsor" for some games.

We should have companies jumping at the chance of riding a team on the rise.

It's disturbing to day the least.

I'm certainly no expert, but, 'hey look, we're probably going to start winning more matches soon,' doesn't sound like much of a convincing pitch to a corporate sponsor.

There's our current market value and our projected market value. We're forecasting a sharp rise in our brand worth, but we have to sign a long-term sponsor before the spike.

And winning matches isn't enough. We have to convert those wins into members, media exposure, and a more prominent fixture.

It's a tricky sell and a delicate balancing act. We may even be better-off signing a short-term deal on lower dollar a la an up and coming full-forward.

I didn't think getting sponsors would be an issue anymore.

Obviously I am wrong and it's concerning tbh.

I thought those days were behind us.

They might be in another year or two DO.

However at present we think the team is on a big up.

A large part of the footy world is still sceptical, in their view we are still at the cross roads and still to prove we are a finals team.

If you are not a finals team Sponsor ship is still a tough job.

I made some inquires for my mate, turns out the club doesn't want an espresso bar that specialises in toasted sandwiches as a BOJ sponsor.

I explained to the marketing man that the sandwiches are gourmet and pretty pricey but he just wasn't interested. They do a toastie that uses three different cheeses, three!

Saying "I think they'll make the 8" is very different to "I'm willing to put a large chunk of my company's marketing budget into an unproven sports club I feel will be good but I can't be sure and has about a third of the media exposure of other organisations at almost the same price".

Let's not understate how hard it actually is to get sponsors, especially when your brand is synonymous with losing, has low-level exposure, and has a very geographically concentrated following, as Melbourne does.

I seriously believe Melbourne would be the toughest sporting club in Australia to land a sponsorship deal for. Much like our on-field performance, the gap between the benefits and risks is huge. You can either get insane exposure sponsoring a club with a really peculiar but refined and classy brand, or you can get close to zero exposure. In both cases we're above and below most other clubs, respectively. It's a really tough sell.

The way I see it, PJ and Co. are going all out, selling at a premium price and refusing to compromise. You either go hard or go home. Underselling the club is probably off the table, but overselling is on.

I doubt PJ would ever accept a Reach-type sponsorship just for the sake of having a brand on there. That just cheapens the spot. IMO, having it empty boosts exposure of the brand tenfold, more so than selling it cheap just to have someone there. It's a rather fascinating approach.

I'm not anywhere near as worried as some of you are.

While I agree, our memberships, wins and excitement have been consistently rising so I think it's equally about finding the right partner who will be with us long term, I am sure they'd have options but want the right one

back to the top at hand.,..

our brand has been seriously damaged by ten or more years of unmitigated failure. as praha said, we are a very small club with a very concentrated supporter base and limited exposure.

i also think the general public is actually more positive toward the dees than most fans.

That's just the pits. I thought we might, just might be able to mend our relationship with Hankook given the vast distance between now and the previous administration.

Not to be though.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
