Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

New co-captain Jack Viney said Lewis had been “terrific”, saying: “We are different to Hawthorn, there are things we (do) better and things we weren’t doing as well, so being able to bounce things off Jordy is invaluable.”

Things we do better. Go tear 'em one Jack!

Absolutely agree! The only question he can muster us: How did you find it!

His recent interview with Petracca is a disgrace. Surely it would be normal to have a list of questions you wanted to ask? No insights whatsoever.

Picket is referring to the late Winston Choochill; a noted figure during the time of the infamous Waugh.

Imo, Viney needs to concentrate on becoming a better player and continue to work on the deficiencies in his game without the added burden and associated distractions that captaincy brings.

I see little obvious gains from the decision and potential unwanted ramifications for a young player.

Jones would also question why this "model" is superior to what he's been providing.  However, Jones' feelings are less of a concern to me.  More the burden on Viney.

I wonder how much input Lewis had in this decision.  He has come from an environment where they had a star leader in Mitchell, but always had Hodge lurking/waiting in the background.  The decision was made to change captains while Mitchell was still on the list.

Perhaps Lewis' contribution was that Viney will undoubtedly be captain soon, so the best way to implement this, while respecting Jones, is to introduce the co-captin model.

Just a thought, may be far from accurate!

is about the only thing that makes any sense...Otherwise an absolute naff idea...for mine.

I would have thought Viney as VC for a few years would do as much.

I dont like it...but there's bigger fish to fry

Don't get a big head Jack

This is exactly why i don't like Co Captaincy

If he was VC Jonesy could then tell him to   Keep quiet and keep things in house.

Remember when Chris Dawes bagged out Whorethorn a few years back

Worked a treat.

No one is perfect, we all have flaws. Perhaps sharing the role between the two, who clearly have different personalities, will create a better balance and allow both of them to utilise their strengths more effectively. Similarly other players may respond better to one or the other so with Jones and Viney working together we might have a more engaged team.

Don't mind this at all. Co-captains has clearly been successful in most instances.

I reckon Todd Viney has a definate conflict of interest here and needs to step aside! Just sayin! IMO

Chunk Jones a standout leader!

So you are saying Todd Viney chose his son as captain? Yeah right.

I'd say it was Goody's call and Todd had SFA to do with it.

You could argue that for any player in the league, irrespective of age.

Jones still needs to improve for example. Is the captaincy title a burden for him?

If you see potential unwanted ramifications for a young player, how can you not equally see potential gains for the entire squad as well as Viney himself?

Our 2016 B&F winner. Runner up in 2015. Already one of the toughest players in the competition at 22.

His trajectory in both form and growth as a player has steadily increased from the time he came to the club and he is clearly the leader and driver for the 22-23 y/o and under brigade at the club. They all look up to him.

As Roos said last year; "He (Viney) typifies where we’re trying to take this team."

It's a no-brainer.

This is a form of succession. We DIDN'T have co-coaches to facilitate that did we. You had acoach in waiting. This is what should be happening now.

It isn't. I find that odd and AT odds with what's been proven to work recently within the culture of the club as recently architected.

Dont &$@! this up Melbourne.

My theory is that Goodwin is implementing a leadership model for the next decade that has a flexible interchangeable component.

When they forecast the future they'd see a standout young leader in Brayshaw and potentially others.  With a one captain policy it's conceivable someone like Brayshaw would never get a chance.  This model allows for someone like him and others to be rewarded and aspire for greatet honours.

While I'm not a fan this facet does have merit.

Feed it back to the club methinks...

I would not be surprised, and this is not a knock on chunk, if they did a leading teams style of vote and Viney won. Whilst it is not to say he is our best leader, questions associated with leading teams would suit Viney to a tee and why he is in the leadership group for the last couple years.

With a younger list of players and Viney epitomising the style of play/attitude we want, it would be no surprise to see the younger players looking up to him.

This is all opinion, but if this was the case the co captain model would be implemented because Goodwin realises that whilst Viney has plenty of leadership traits, he will still have plenty to learn from Chunk and thus co captains

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
