Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

PJ - Casey Scorpions to become Casey Demons in 2017 and wear the Melbourne jumper.

Jackson said the club had been in discussions with VFL affiliate the Casey Scorpions about playing as the Casey Demons in 2017.

Casey is expected to wear Melbourne colours in the VFL next season.

As the Casey Demons, are we precluded from having a Casey Demons Women's Team?

Be nice to have depth in both the male and female teams down the track.

They would have to enter themselves into a local league you'd think. Probably still need the women's league to mature first.

Gee WJ you forgot to mention the question about the 'horrid' white jumper

PJ was quite emphatic that the majoirty white jumper is AFL driven, produced a slide showing a jumper design we have submitted to AFL to wear against St Kilda, front is home jumper back all red, only for Rd 1

Yes Saty - that was one of the two questions asked from the floor and PJ made it quite clear that the AFL lays down the rules about when there's a clash and that the club is working on a better outcome. The suggested jumper for Round 1 v St Kilda is based on the women's team jumper. I personally can't work out the one about the genius at the AFL who thinks our colours clash with those of Richmond.

Did my eyes deceive me or was the guy who asked the question wearing a top in Eagles' colours?

The other question was about China and PJ says we haven't given up on China but our emphasis is more on attracting the local Chinese community to the club. He said that there were problems associated with playing games there in May. Having spent some time earlier in the year in both Shanghai and Beijing and experienced the smog there, I would add that there are definite health issues that need to be taken into account. Glad they're giving it a miss although PJ did say we were asked by the AFL if we were interested.

Cranbourne have a team in the Women's VFL, they could possibly be co-opted.

But at the moment Geelong and other teams who didn't get an AFL license are working on fielding VFL teams. I think it's a while off AFL teams having VFL reserves like the men's system. Especially when the AFL season will be a novelty short season before the women return to their VFL or local clubs for the rest of the year.

Our women will be playing games at Casey but whether the time is right at this early stage to run another team is questionable. We're just learning to crawl at this stage.

Interestingly, I passed Gosch's Paddock on the way in and they were training hard. On the way out, more than 2 hours later, they were still going and there are some very athletic looking players in the team. I think the standard of the games is going to be very high.

Not sure what to make of the whole Casey thing. Probably the most practical option at the end of the day.

We just don't have the cash or pull to somehow find our own training or playing base somewhere in the heartland (or even out in somewhere like Dingley like the Hawks). So the best option is to continue training at Gosch's which works really well for the players and to then have our VFL and women's teams based at Casey. So as part of that we invest in the alignment.

Home for the MFC will always be the MCG anyway, even if I feel like a consolidated base for training, VFL and women's would be a really nice thing to have.

I wonder if we should just up and move the entire club to Casey and to really commit to it but I think that's a risky move and we'd probably be like St Kilda and hating it.

I think I read a tweet from the club last week advertising for players to form a Casey Scorpions women's team. I suppose they now will be the Casey Demons,.

There is a huge cost to these things. We need to focus on other things.

Glad to hear that. The China games made no sense but trying to tap into the local market does.

KC, just interested, how will the Scorpion followers feel about the name and jumper change?

Let's hope that they can play without an away jumper!

A question came from the audience with regard to the Away Jumper and basically we are restricted to what we can have by the AFL. Incredulously there are seven or eight Clubs that the TV Media say we clash with - St. Kilda, Richmond, Adelaide, Carlton and have forgotten the others. The Club has put several options forward. PJ said the Club hate the away jumper and he knows that the supporters hate it as well.

Also he was upfront in saying that although the supporters get cranky with the AFL they did listen to the Club's proposal that we do not play anymore home games at Etihad.

Great to think of what the relationship with Casey has now become. Put the right people in place and good things happen.

Simon Goodwin is not a "come with me on a journey" type of speaker like Paul Roos  but certainly very down to earth and obviously passionate about his job. He spoke one on one to Hannan, Johnstone, Hibberd and Lewis.  Jordan Lewis got one or two rousing ovations - a very clear favourite"son" now that he has chosen the destination Club. Simon asked about his decision to come to Melbourne and it certainly was his relationship with Todd Viney that clearly was the determining factor. He said he knew other people from other Clubs but he wanted to go to a Club at this stage of his career where he could make a difference and that it was a Club that was "going places" He spoke very well with Simon saying the first time he spoke to the other players he really made an impression.

A good night, succinct, not over the top but definitely there is a certain finals feeling in the air. Be excited.

CBD Get well - I thought you might be there in your hospital nightie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the repeat but just read other posts.

This is a subject that I've thought about a lot over the years and my answer might surprise a few but I think the renaming might be the best thing to happen for the Casey Scorpions Demons.

The club originated in Springvale which underwent significant population changes from the 1980s and as such would have struggled to survive at this level had the decision to relocate not been made a decade ago. However, the move to Casey Fields was also problematic because Casey had little identity at the time.

The Casey municipality was created in the 1990s as part of Jeff Kennett's overhaul of local councils. It essentially merged two councils - Cranbourne and Berwick and the club found itself located just outside Cranbourne which already had its own strong local club with an identity of its own and some natural resistance to embracing the relocated club.

What we've seen in my view at Casey is a club with declining support from the old Springvale following and not enough local support although that should change because the closer residential environment around Casey Fields is growing at a substantial rate.

It's good to see that with the new name there will still be recognition and respect for the Springvale tradition while the club moves forward into the future and will continue to foster the game for both men and now women in the area. There will be some old Springvale supporters who are not happy but you have to be realistic and embrace the future.

Casey Scorpions set to drop name and jumper and tighten links with Melbourne Demons

Ironically, yesterday's announcement came on the same day on which the 2017 fixture was announced with the club shown on it as "Casey" rather than "Casey Scorpions".

Perhaps somebody knew?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
