Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A final?  What is that?

Is it what happens in September when we are up at the lodge at Buller? ?

Jokes aside, he is an opportunist who opponents will lose sight of for just a moment, at their peril

Who was the bloke that played for Adelaide in the late 90's did it a couple of times.  Absolute no-name player won them a couple of finals.  Shane someone.

Shane Ellen

In the 1997 Grand Final, Ellen was considered the unlikely hero for the Crows. In the first half he booted two goals from full-forward, playing there in place of the injured Tony Modra. He was then switched to the half-back line by coach Malcolm Blight, which proved to be an inspired move – Ellen kicked three of his five goals for the match after half-time.[

Plays tall, sure/quick hands, works hard to get to position, can rotate thru the mid-field, hard to match up and how many times has he been there in the goal square!

Yes, and has considerable speed. I would have thought second only to Hunt  and maybe on a par withGarlett and  Frost. It is an advantage in a team which is not over burdened with pace.

Yep - there was similar commentary around when Hunt was drafted.  Some people like to think they know more about it than those paid to do it for a living.  That's all part of the fun though.

You'd think recruiting intelligence plays a part in recruiting players like this out of (relative) nowhere.  "This player is no certainty to make it, but we like him and we have reason to believe <x> club is going to move if we don't.  Better not take the risk by waiting until the rookie draft, and snatch him now" type thing.

In the case of Barry Prendergast everyone did and they were correct.

Would be stiff not to get a Rising Star nod very soon

(Edit: I didn't check his eligibility, probs not eligible due to age?)

Mitch is too old at 23.

To be eligible to be nominated for the award, a player must be younger than 21 years of age on 1 January of the award year and have played 10 or fewer senior games before the beginning of the season. A player who is suspended during the season is not eligible to win the award but is still eligible for a nomination.

I'd love to know what Barry's instructions were. If he was told that we needed 'outside runners who were athletes' then you could perhaps understand picks like Morton. We certainly didn't go with really instinctive footballers like Oliver, Hogan and Hannan

As a body of work though he wouldn't be proud of what he did at Melbourne.

Had to be:

Find wall, aim up , urinate.

Only explanation to our picks and waste of money

Our whole football philosophy at the time was stuffed.  BP was part of that.

It was the blind leading the blind.

Quickly becoming a favourite of mine. Stats won't show it, but he was very good again yesterday.

He has terrific goal sense, is as hard as a cat's head and brings manic forward pressure. Great to watch.

wouldnt be proud! I think you're being very generous there. Thats the biggest understatement Ive read on here for a while. I agree he must have had some terrible instructions but as a body of work he should forever feel ashamed of what he did to this club. Morton, Cook, Gysberts, Strauss, Blease.....still makes me nauseus to even think about that time.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wanted to bump this thread up again.

What a surprise packet Mitch is. I really did not expect to see him barely at all this year, maybe only if injuries required it. He has gone from obscurity to a very important player for us.

His ability to kick opportune goals from a pack off 1 or 2 steps is extraordinary. He does it most weeks and got another cracker on the weekend.

Great recruiting once again.

If he'd kicked truly in the 3rd after that amazing gather and spin it would have been a dead set goal of the year contender. Alas, he put it out on the full. Nevertheless, love Mitch and kudos to Jason Taylor.

Ex Bulldogs VFL. Has played with St Bernards OB too i believe. Western Bulldogs keep an eye on some of them and have a few training at Whitten Oval

Very good below his knees. Reads play well. Can take a good grab as well.

Officially my favourite player. For what it's worth, I spoke to a mate who works at the doggies and they were super keen on him, they knew the type of talent he was but didn't think he could produce at AFL level as quickly as he has.

I love the way he plays footy, hard, aggressive takes the game on and makes things happen

he's a huge part in why we have won the games we have

Where was he before he played with Footscray in the VFL? It always surprises me a bit when these players seemingly materialise out of nowhere in their early 20s.  For all talent scouting has improved in the last 20 years, there's probably dozens of gems like him kicking about in local footy leagues.

He's kicked 17 goals now for the season - fourth on the list behind Garlett, Watts and Petracca, and has kicked 3 goals 3 times.  Hopefully will pass 30 before the home and away season is through.

Seems to be getting better and looking more comfortable each week.  What a great pickup.

Add him to your favourite players in your profile, it will show up under your username and post cout.

I added Jake Melksham to mine yesterday, and it felt great as he cops so much crap on here (though its been quiet lately as hes been paying well).

Also Im sticking by Dean Kent.

I guess it was more a question of what was keeping him out of at least second tier footy? The name of a club I don't know doesn't help a great deal. :P

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
