Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I notice we have almost 22,000 members for next season already. I'm not sure how that compares with '16, can anyone bring up comparable figures please

We are in great shape Dee Dee!

The earliest read I have is 19,026 on Oct 26, 2015, so at least 3,000 up on this time last year!

For those wanting to track how we are going vs prior years this thread might be useful:

Beating the Hawks and Hogan re-signing would be a huge part of that additional 3,000.  Now that Lewis chose us and is on board it should give the numbers another boost.

PJ had a goal of 50,000 for 2017.  Doubt we will get there but would expect that we will get at least 45,000.  We are nearly half way there!

Exciting times:cool:

I take credit for the upsurge in membership. Last week I registered the entire family, kids, their spouses, grandkids all at my cost. Exception being my wife who claims to be a Bombers fan (fittingly she's a pharmacist) but with Melksham and Hibberd on board, I think she could be convinced - especially if we creep closer to 40k.

Nice work Jack!

Since you're clearly in a generous mood, I'll do my bit for the club by allowing you to renew my membership. We can sign up "the lads" too.

I'll pm you the details.

Thanks again!!

yes and yes

MCC members who nominate Melbourne as their team are NOT included in the MFC membership tally (unless they pay a MFC membership subscription)! All the MCC does for the MFC is that it provides the facility to pay both Club memberships at the one time. MCC members get nothing for nothing.

Can anyone tell me if MCC members that nominate Melbourne as their team are added into our tally? And do we receive any money for them?

Win early games and that number escalates quickly.

We should be pushing 40k at the start of the season. Win 3-4 in the first 5-6 games and look like a good team and 45k is a shoe in.

I think that if we win consistently instead of one game on and one game off then that would improve membership more dramatically.

So many blokes spouses support TWSNBN, wonder what the reason for that is? It's not as if we are the ugly ones, must be some psychological revolt.

I thought you got a reduced price membership for mcc members if you took up the offer. Are you saying you have to pay the normal full mfc membership?

I understood also a special price for joint MCC/MFC membership .

It depends on what you mean by full price, most MCC members now add the MFC membership, there are two a normal one that I think cost around $80 last year and a premium which includes a free junior which was around $130 of course that is on top of MCC membership, as most sit in MCC section it is more or less a donation, although you do get a dual badged scarf

so yes, it is cheaper than a normal standalone membership (and agree it is more like a donation)

and yes, the (extra) money goes to the mfc and it counts just like a standalone membership, as was originally asked

It's a special category as MCC members automatically gain admission to all games at the G (for which they pay handsomely)! They don't need the same entitlements as other MFC categories (such as admission to home games) so in many respects their MFC membership is effectively a donation.

As a final word on the MCC/MFC membership there is a small proportion of MCC (so-called) Demon supporters who are too lousy to take out the add-on MFC membership despite the modest cost. The MCC/MFC members as a group are generally a passionate bunch and hold these others in disdain.

Probably the same ones that escape to the ski slopes in winter rather than go to the footy as well.

It's up to the MFC to entice these MCC members to take up a membership. They already pay a fortune for MCC and if they're paying $80 pp on top for nothing it adds up. Give them something for that $80, access to the club rooms, a premium members function, a presentation by the coach - something to make it worthwhile and more than just a donation.

This stereotype needs to be knocked on the head once and for all. MFC supporters now ski in Japan. These ski holidays do not clash with the AFL season proper!

As a boy growing up in the northern suburbs, surrounded by Collingwood (my 4 brothers all barracked for the filth) and Essendon supporters, I have been to the snow once in my life.  Thought is was a very expensive way to get wet and cold and I was lousy at the aprés ski.  I am atypical of the so called stereotype, keeping in mind Trigon's irony.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
