Yes and we also tried to off load Trengove on them.

Even they might be a bit wary of the MFC bearing gifts

I may be wrong dc but I think it may not matter when the delisting is.  We got Ben Newton towards the end of the 'List Update Submissions' (or whatever it is called) even tho we had been talking with him for months and Port had a contract in front of him.  We sat back, didn't trade and Port had the good grace to delist him rather than force him to stay.

So I'm assuming that other clubs have learnt that 'trick'.

A bit like us and the Pies I reckon the last decent player we got from them was Peter Moore and that is 30 years ago.

I can see them getting Prestia and then getting Cloke on the cheap. I don't see Grimes getting there regardless of the connection with his brother.

As a player Dawes is done, compare his 2016 compared to say .. Petrie. Light years apart in games played and every other stat known to man yet has been delisted.

The "clubs keen on Dawes" is a beat up by his agent. He's cooked as far as footy playing goes.

What Dawes produced in his premiership year with Collingwood had three qualities: 1) a fierce attack on the ball on the ground and in the air, 2) leading in very straight lines inside forward 50 making waves and space for other forwards, 3) he was actually a good kick from goal after strong leads and chest marks.

His body has never let him produce that with any continuity at the Dees. At 28, and with his ongoing large leg-muscle issues, I don't reckon we will ever see it. If you watch what Hulett and Weideman are producing at Casey, Hulett in particular is developing the kind of game Dawes did at the Pies, and Weideman's aerial work looks very, very good. One or both of these boys will overtake him in 2017. 

I actually believe that his professionalism and maturity have borne great fruit amongst our younger players, but this cannot be the only reason to keep him, so he is definitely on the trade table.

This is the question. What bothers me is that without Dawes, our current tall forward stocks are Hogan, Watts, Pedersen, Weideman & Hulett. We only need 2 injuries and we're hitting the bottom of the barrel. Unless we trade someone in or draft someone, who would have to offer us more than Dawes from next year. We've already got plenty of tall forwards for the future so we don't need another one. But we do need another one to cover us as depth for next year and possibly the year after, and if it's not Dawes, it will need to be someone as good (i.e. not the likes of Vickery).

If Dawes does stay with us, he'd have to accept that he's depth only, and 5th or 6th in line, and be paid accordingly.

As another example, Spencer prob won't ever get a game unless Gawn is injured, but if Gawn ever IS injured, we're really going to need him. For Dawes, we'll prob only need him if any two out of Hogan, Watts & Pedersen are injured, but if that ever happens, we'll really need him.

Actually, come to think of it, I think we'll keep Pedersen, plus one only out of Garland, Dunn & Dawes.
