Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The same Beveridge who has only rarely played the slow and unathletic Will Minson in the ruck despite him being by far the Dogs best tap ruckman? Or who has routinely played barely 1 key defender and no lock down back pockets and backed his rebounding defenders to play a zone and attacked based system?

I like Dunny. I'd love to keep him as I think  he's fitter now than earlier in the year and with a big preseason could take his spot back from Frost or Oscar, and would at least be depth. But if we are lumped with Garland and we can get something from Dunn then I'd understand why moving him on is the right result.

Not sure what relevance Minson has to your argument. I'd never play Spencer as the no.1 ruckman for that very reason.

As for the Dogs key defenders, due to injury, Beveridge has played those that he's had at his disposal. Morris, Hamling and Adams have all been played as stay at home defenders. He obviously saw the need in that area when he started the job because he's brought in Hamling and Adams since he arrived.

We have plenty of depth for defenders.  If Dunn left the remaining defenders who did not play round 23 are:  Wagner, Melksham, Lumumba, Garland, Jones, (Hibberd).  They are not all a straight swap for Dunn (height) but could play a role if a defender went down, with a bit of juggling of players.

Its sad to say but Dunn won't be depth, he will be a Casey player.  I would rather he takes his chances elsewhere who need him than see his contract out in the reserves.

And we need players in other positions so any trade picks we get in will help us get those players.

I am a huge fan of Dunn, and like Watts, he seems to be one of those heart-and-soul players around the club who everyone admires. Even though I see a huge upside in Omac, I was a bit disappointed that Dunn's form in the VFL never earnt him a recall. He is definitely AFL standard and will provide stability and leadership for a young team, just as he did with us a while back. His trade worth is probably not as high as it could have been,  ut his VFL finals series might have increased his worth a bit.

All the best Dunny. It will be sad to see you playing against the Dees, but all the best.

Where's the evidence for this? It may well be true, but I haven't seen it.

Dunn and next year's first rounder for Hanley?

Overs IMO. Hanley is a good player but goes missing a bit. Hell, I probably would think about it if our first rounder was 18 though :pj:

Thats a shocking deal..

First of all You don't just give up a first rounder for a 28 year old who can be inconsistent at times along with a player that still has a good 2-3 years of footy.

Really id do a straight sway with Dunn for Hanley but Brisbane want a 1st rounder which is ludicrous.

Why not? Next year's first rounder for us will likely be somewhere around 12-15, Lions want a top 10 pick, seems fair to me.

Because I don't think we need hanley, and without a first rounder this year need to hang on to next year's.

I have a feeling we'll have another first rounder (or two) either this year or next thanks to a homesick key forward...

He's 27 and 10 months and will be 28 when the season starts.

I would be totally p155ed if we traded a first round pick for a player that is inconsistent and 28 years old. What purpose would that serve?

Again its a bad deal. Why the need to give up so much for a guy that's a bit inconsistent?

And you think giving up a 1st rounder +VFL player for Inconsistent Hanley is a suitable deal?? Jesus...

Good god are you Tim Harrington/Mark Neeld?!

Again let try and put it in more simple terms. You don't give up 1st rounders for a bloke thats going to be 28 next year who is known to be inconsistent.

You have to take age factor and form into it as well stuie. Brisbane fans were screaming for him to be dropped this year. You keep your 1st rounders for players in the ilk of Wines, Dylan Shiel, Rory Lobb, Peter Wright types that will all come out of contract either next year or so. These are the type of players that will be able to still give us a good 6-8 years of solid service. Not for someone thats going to be 28 next year on inconsistent form and probably has 2 years left.

It's an interesting one.

Of course it's only VFL, but watching the game on the weekend I thought he looked as solid as I've ever seen. He played with super confidence, used the ball really well and was combative in the contest. He rarely made an error.

We've seen him produce that kind of footy only over the course of one year. (2013 or 14?).

Unlike Garland, I still think that there's a spot for Dunn in our backline but only if he can produce his best footy consistently. We have nobody who can mind the bigger bodies and when his kicking and decision making is on song, it's a weapon.

Maybe his demotion to the VFL at this point in his career will be the kick he needs going into next year? Or maybe it won't and we'll see him traded?

It's difficult to know how much influence Roos had in making the calls to demote both Dunn and Garland for the majority of the year and I wonder whether Goody may give Dunn another chance. Like others, I think Garland's days are numbered. He is just that in between size player who doesn't have any real weapons and is incredibly inconsistent.

If Dunn has a ripper Grand Final on Saturday, it'll certainly make things interesting.

Gone.  He needs a fresh start to rekindle his desire for top footy.  He has always played when he wanted to.  Or has to.   Contract years.  Whats changed?

Ok, we'll see what the reaction is when Mahoney offers up Dunn for Hanley then...

FMD.

My big problem with Hanley is that he's shown himself up to be very unprofessional in his approach.

Seemed to sook a lot this season because he didn't like the coach...and this showed up in his performance and on ground demeanour.

Not a good look.

I would pass.

If Brisbane badly want Dunn then I'm sure there is no harm in asking the question is there considering he probably still has another 2 years of good solid footy up in Brisbane.

Of course the answer will be no so then we move on. Not someone worth giving up a 1st rounder and a player Timmy Harrington..

I'm pretty sure this is the reason that Brisbane are shopping him around. Usually clubs employing a new coach would retain a talent like Hanley, but clearly the club don't see him as a good influence on a young list.

A big no for me based on the reasons above and his age.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
