Ridiculous. Clarkson told him they wanted him to be used as trade bait for O'Meara! And they're hardly in any position to play hardball after giving away Mitchell for pick 88!

Mitchell is going there for one year.  We get Lewis for three, of course he is going to be dearer in price.

Besides, precedents don't mean anything.  Each trade is its own beast.  Do you really think the conversation would go like this?
Hawthorn: We want pick 44 for Lewis.
Melbourne: You only got 88 for Mitchell.
Hawthorn: Oh, you're right! Darn, our mistake.  Pick 100 will do then.

Yeah. Unless the Hawks have Rockliff as Plan B, it's probably in their best interests to keep this Jordan Lewis trade waiting for a few days, or demand we give them a 2nd round pick to use for O'Meara. They might force JL to play for one more year if they can ONLY get Tom Mitchell this year. 

Essendon and Hawthorn are both fighting for our 2nd round picks and both working out whether they should delay or do the Lewis/Hibberd trades. 

A 3 way with the two worst clubs in the competition.

there is no doubt in my mind pick 44 is still a steal for Lewis, both as a player and a leader.

Hating Hawthorn is fine, but is very silly not to give credit where it is due, they have been amazing with list management and performance over a long period, coping with Roughead going down etc.They were less than 1% off a 4th premiership and that was not the fault of a Lewis or Mitchell. And I think we can back our FD - Cross/Vince etc have all been excellent value.

I'm fully aware of that, but they've kept him when, by your own standards, he should have been let go like the others. 

You follow the Hawthorn line, if you didn't you'd be asking why he didn't move Hodge along too.

If we had been offered Lewis for Pick 30 odd 3 weeks ago I'd have signed on the spot! It'll get done, doesn't fuss me now which pick. Either way we win.

Melbourne are developing an outnumber contested ball-winning team.  And Lewis will be super important in that pursuit for at least the next two years.

If you don't recognise the value he brings you haven't thought things through.

The guaranteed 3rd year concerns me but being positive Lewis will be surrounded by more ball contested ball winning mids than just Sam Mitchell. Hopefully he can rotate through half forward, he is a good mark for his size.

As as for the Hawks if their salary cap dumping giveaway of their 2 contested ball mids Mitchell and Lewis is all about creating cap space to attract 2017 free agents such as Fyfe or Martin my question is will they have enough depth of talent around O'Meara., Martin & Fyfe. Burton looks good but the rest of their young players are underwhelming or untested. It's hard to build depth if you are trading a first rounder plus 2 nd rounders as a minimum for 1 player.
