Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Poster on the  No T$ thread, that's right the No T$ thread, said the Lewis deal is nearly done and he will sign with us in the next couple of days.

Said the info is from Warrnambool way and  that is Lewis' family home area.

Interesting to consider what deal would have gotten this done.  Someone on BF said the only reason Hawthorn pulled the plug on any deal was because Melbourne low-balled (and I believe that as much as I believe any of this), however I can't see then being in any position to get much for a 30 year old.  There's no doubt he's a very good player, but the MFC is not going to mortgage its future for a player who might only have a year or two remaining, when it's unlikely that we will be flag contenders during Lewis' stay here.  I'd have thought something like our third round pick, or upgrading their second round pick or something like that, but for them that's essentially scrap value for the player who came second in their B&F.  I can't see the MFC coming at anything more for a short term prospect.

They must be bloody desperate for salary cap relief if this is the path they have taken.  Damn shame he's not a FA!

Not sure Hawks could claim they're worried about being "low-balled" for an old player with only a year or 2 left, when they essentially accepted pick 88 for Mitchell.

Although, maybe the current supporter backlash for that has changed their opinion. Weak by them really. I think the Lewis move would be good for them even if it's only a 3rd rounder - they need cap space and to re-generate their list. And a guy like Lewis watching Vickery hack it up  in losses on significantly more money will be a ticking time bomb.

I kinda hope he stays...

hard to tell mate, i'd say unlikely, i was told there was interest and the Hawks weren't one of the clubs mentioned, but this is the silly season.

i'd have thought more likely to be part of the Hibberd deal, but that's really just a guess.

He won't be part of the Hibberd deal, that will be a 2nd round pick as indicated.

Might be part of a deal to get us another 2nd round pick this year, I think we have that earmarked for something otherwise the EFC/Hibberd deal would already have been done.

My guess is we are looking at a forward/ruck with that pick...total guess based on needs though.

Yeah i agree, i think IF we're even open to trading him it'll be part of trying to get a good pick back in

Get him.

imagine Rd 14 next year, we are 7-6 coming off a tight loss at the G and heading to Sydney to play the swans. It's raining. We must win to stay in the 8.

who gets picked from our list for this game before Lewis?

Imagine some of the games this seasons where we were close but no cigar, like the first game against the Hawks. His abilities would have helped us nicely.

If the Lewis and Hibberd deals go through we will be basically adding  462 games of experience to the side.

Hibberd. 84,

Lewis. 264,

Melksham. 114

that should make a big difference to the consistency of output of the side.

In contrast North Melbourne are now -2000 odd games played or whatever it was haha

What's our salary cap looking like with the additions of Hibberd and Lewis?

And what sort of pick would we be looking at in the trade for Lewis? Surely a third round would suffice..

Additional cap space this year from player departures, especially of Grimes and probably Dawes, both on big $$$.  This year or next year more cap space available from player departures especially of Dunn and probably Lumumba, again both on big $$$.  I would guess those guys add to somewhere close to $1.5m in cap space.

I think our cap will be fine.

somewhat ironic perhaps, should Lewis play out a few seasons with us he'd be our next 300 gamer. Footy , a funny game ;)

I suspect it will be pick 66 which is a fair deal. Mitchell, whilst a better player, is 1-2 years playing and was first pushed out the door. Lewis will be 2-3 years playing and is not being pushed now that Mitchell is out. Have a look at the hit rate of clubs between 66-75 in the draft and consider the maturity and leadership benefits of a player like Lewis and what Brayshaw, Trac and Oliver alone will learn from him. Then instead of considering him as an ageing star note that he averaged 26 touches and finished 2nd in a finals team B&F whilst we still had Bugg, M Jones, Grimes, Michie, Newton play 33 games combined for us in a relatively injury free year.

This is without considering that he is a proud player with a point to prove in 2017 who WANTS to come and pull on the red and blue.

Only MFC supporters could whine about this.

Lewis has about 3 years left in footy with him. I feel as though he has been a very durable player, just missed a chunk of games through suspension. Lewis will not only help us win close games, but it also has a domino effect on the rest of the playing group.

Imagine Viney, Oliver, Petracca feeding and developing their craft further from Lewis. Imagine the other types of players we will be able to land in next year's trade period when a four time premiership player has requested a trade to us. Forget that Lewis is slow, he will be able to provide that cool experienced head they we desperately need. Vince and Jones need leadership support on and off the field. We need this deal to go through if we want to start seeing more wins next year and our younger to players go to the next level.

A 2nd round draft pick could probably get it done for Lewis ... in my opinion, that's a good/very good result for us considering the drafts are generally grossly overrated.  A 3rd round draft pick (only) would be a gift.

Forget the Sam Mitchell deal, there are completely different factors at play with that trade.  That 2nd round draft pick that might be required for Lewis might also explain why the Hibberd deal hasn't happened yet.

Lewis is a genuine A grade player who may not end up being as consistently good but will still play a number of stellar games (if he remains fit)  We paid pick 23 for Vince and Lewis is a better player if we were to look at both their career's side by side.  A 2nd round draft pick can offer all sorts of outcomes - often average or worse if the data, facts and truths about draft picks in that area are looked at properly (by the way, pick 14 for Tom Mitchell is an absolute steal for Hawthorn)

In terms of bargaining power, it helps enormously that Lewis wants to come to our club and it also helps that we can offer him more security (a 3 year deal on good coin)

Not sure if already posted (this thread has escalated in the last day or so!), but the rumour via Quatermain on twitter is we're offering 3 years, it's been agreed to but there's now just back and forth about the actual pick involved.

3 years is a bit. I want Lewis to come to us but if that is true I hope there are some significant trigger clauses; top ten B & F, no. of senior games etc.

I imagine similar to Bernie, he had a 2 year + 1 year depending on performance contract I think?

Yes, but you can also complete a level 3 coaching transition course in the final years of your playing career and there is every chance that would be a part of this, allows him to walk straight in as a qualified assistant at a team that should be top 4 ish and complete a level 4 and be in a great position to apply for senior coaaching gigs in the future.

How would Lewis go as a floating half forward or half back in his last year or at least playing certain sections of the game over the next 2 seasons in there? He has a decent leap and set of hands on him If I recall correctly? Seems to plays taller than his 186cm suggests and can crash through packs in unpredictable ways. Would be good to see him running up the ground at crucial moments to influence the contest

I think you'll find in this case Pickers and co might be behind the leaks in order to put heat on the Hawks to do the deal, the word getting around about this is so consistent

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
