Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just quoting what 7 news is saying, I'm not saying anything bad I wish him all the best don't like this stuff happening to anyone no matter how you feel about them

I must admit i thought youd cracked a joke...

Interesting channel 7 are reporting that and everyone else is saying "major health scare" #scum

Quote:

But Channel Seven said Hird was taken to Cabrini Hospital at “10.07pm last night after an intentional poisoning overdose”. The substance wasn’t revealed.

It’s believed Hird left the hospital earlier today and is receiving care elsewhere.

I have zero respect for Hird and abhor what he did but I don't wish him any ill, after all he has children, family and friends who have been and are seriously affected by the trauma he has and is going thru. If that quote is correct Hird is clearly not a well man.

I think this is a time to put grievances aside.

As much as I can't stand this man, his club, and what has happened I wish him all the best and hope he finds a way out of the mire he appears to be in.

Agree with the need for sensitive consideration and so was amazed where his father was reported as blaming AFL, the club and seemingly every one else for James condition. While this can be seen as a standard reaction, it again continues the avoidance tactics which have led us to this point.

it must make players who were treated with unknown substances that James reportedly endorsed and used wonder if the current condition is arising from that use.

I hope that they at least are receiving more comprehensive and truthful information than is being reported.

yes...and all has gone quiet on the Jobe: give back the medal story.

Sam McClure made a valiant attempt but I reckon the AFL shut him down quick smart!  The AFL wants Jobe to quietly keep it, so no noise from the media thanks!

That medal will be worth a bit on the market in years to come.  At worst he still has it and can believe what he wants about who won it.  Quiet little pay off maybe?

Despite the call for privacy Mr Hird senior could not resist rehashing all the old gripes. Is that helping his son? The media have now joined ASADA and the AFL as bad guys relentlessly pursuing the Hird's. Once upon a time the Hird's always courted publicity when it suited them. The Hird mansion is perhaps the most photographed and filmed footballers house ever even before the doping saga.  James Hird was never shy in keeping his wife and kids out of the limelight. The public image  of the Hird family was that of perfection. I cannot ever recal seeing any other footballers home in the media and not often do other footballers parade their families in front of the media with such regularity. In the days when it was self serving for him, doorstop interviews happened frequently and the more journalists hanging around the better.  During the eye of the storm of the doping saga there were frequent most likely planned door stop interviews by Tania usually when picking up or dropping the kids at school time to give her regular shrill blasts against the AFL and ASADA. Sadly as with all megalomaniacs who think they are perfect and invincible, their strategy  when fighting losing battles is to fight harder and keep upping the ante because they believe they can't lose and  before they know it they have destroyed themselves and those close to them.

Indeed.

Who's to say this latest chapter isn't just another part of the charade to try and shake some of the manure off.

Sorry, but it's sticking,

I thought this was locked.  Leave the guy alone.  To me it is the height of arrogance for anyone to suggest what is the current state of mind of James Hird or what may have caused it.  Just let it be for now.  Keyboard warriors should think about just how squeaky clean they may be in their anonymous world - or perhaps their closets are also bursting with skeletons.

Oh please...

Perhaps the thread was locked to give James Hird and the family privacy as requested. Didn't take long for Alan Hird to shoot that down and open it up again.

Fancy claiming it was a Julia Gillard conspiracy!

I thought it was as well but Jack obviously left it with a request to leave James Hird alone for the time being. I guess Alan Hird's stirring things up is a separate enough issue and should be able to be discussed that way but if it turns back onto James and his problems it might need to be shut down.

James deserves his own thread. He is a victim after all....

Then close it

I wondered how long it would take.

I can't see why this thread should be closed, though the temporary halt may have been reasonable given the circumstances.    There are issues around the saga which don't involve Hird directly which are perfectly reasonable for discussion eg. where is Jobe's medal.  And if they do involve Hird directly, then we should be able to rely on posters to make appropriate comments. Those that don't should be dealt with in the usual way, rather than surpressing an entire topic.

I think we should give James Hird a break for the time being. I have no time for him and consider him a liar and a cheat, but at this time we should talk about other issues. If his family keep breaking their please leave us alone request then we can reopen the flood gates.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
