Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes he did.

Tippet anyone ? The interweb whispers are starting up. The Swans are keen to keep Mitchell and parting company with Tippett, given their ruck stocks are pretty healthy, might free the cash to make young Tom a decent offer.

Thoughts ?

He has been extremely disappointing at the Swans. He is on big money. He is contracted to end of 2018. Rumoured salary was $750k per year before last two year extension.

He could be very handy if you could get him, on a few conditions.

Any excess of a salary we were happy with, would have to be paid by the Swans, or amortised over a third year.

We wouldn't have much to give, other than a late pick, or a slightly upgraded one, if say Dunn was traded. Don't laugh, but a player like Garland could fit in at the Swans, as his type is not abundant there and there would be a lot of talent around him.

I get the feeling that without the huge salary baggage, Tippett could get some form back.

If he is available there will be clubs interested.

However, all that said, we will probably be not interested.

On another note, WJ suggested a scenario to me and it has some merit.

Trade Spencer for a pick upgrade, to maybe the Lions with Dunn or Suns, as he comes from Queensland and then get Zac Clarke as a FA for nothing.

You swap rucks, get a more experienced one who can come home and upgrade a pick.

Can you trade a player that has signed an extension in the same year?  I didn't think you can.  (Also I'm only using my memory that Spencer re-signed this year).

I think you can if both agree.

He signed for 2017 and 2018 in February 2016.

Would be surprised if he agreed to it for 2017, but 2018 could be a different story.

Pencil is one unfortunate incident away from being a regular member of our seniors.  He's likely to be that at a number of other clubs too, especially those in the sunshine state.

dont need Tippett. Need something in the middle.

After Hibberd  I cant see us doing much but maybe targeting someone to better our mids stocks. Player mightnt be that A grader everyone wants just someone who betters the overall mix.

Matt De Boer, Clancee Pearce, Tendai Mzungu and MFC favourite Jack Hannath were all delisted by Fremantle today.

Any interest in any of these guys as DFA?

Can't see why either QLD club would take Spencer. At the Lions he'd be 3rd string behind Martin and Smith, and at GC he'd be 4th string behind Nicholls, Currie and Brooksby.

Thankfully the club realises that Spencer is not depth for Gawn, and are in the market for backup.

I'd be up for Mzungu of that lot. He's a ball-magnet and can run a bit. Cleaned up his disposal as well. Why did Ross not like him?

I don't mind Mzungu either, but he turns 31 in February 2016 and his kicking lets him down. He only played 5 games this year.

Didn't realise he was that old. I always thought he and De Boer were pretty solid players.

De Boer is only 26, I think he'll get picked up by someone.

Lost a yard. He's done at AFL level will be sought after by some of the WAFL big spending/well connected clubs. Perth would love him back and he wouldn't impact their points but they will have a fight on their hands.

If you could not get a regular game at Freo this year and you are 31 shortly it is all over.

Just listened to this morning's trade radio interview with Mahoney and he said that all the young players we wanted to sign up have been.  We will be looking to sign up Salem and Weidemen early in the new year.

So that would really lock up our young talent for a few years!

Mahoney on SEN this morning (paraphrasing):

  • Focus in recent years to go to the draft, especially midfielders.  Now have a sound midfield
  • Focus is defence - Melksham and Hibberd will be good experience.
  • We are also looking to get a ruck/forward
  • Dunn indicated frustrated at not getting a senior game and will look at opportunities.  So will trade if he finds another club.
  • Dawes' future depends on results of trade week.
  • We won't be as active in the trade period this year.
  • Re Hibbered:  might be our pick 26 but it could involve other picks/players

The Hibberd trade looks a bit cryptic - wonder what that deal might look like.

The interview clarifies a few things being thrown around in the media and speculation sites.

Good to hear it from the 'horse's mouth', so to speak.

Mahoney is as much a politician nowadays as Roos was. I don't really believe a lot that comes out of his mouth. Which is fine.

And I'm a little surprised that our defence is still the focus. Yeah, sure, half back is a major part of the modern game, but surely so are the half forwards. Our list looks pretty ordinary or at least shallow for consistently good half forwards. Hopefully Kent and Petracca will get there, but I can't see Kennedy, Harmes and Garlett solving our half forward problems.

If the opportunity presents itself to get back into the first round via a combination of picks or even getting another second rounder to trade in another player, I reckon we'll do it.

But thanks for the update, LH. :)

Perish the thought of Perth having good players on their list. They might actually challenge for a change..

The game requires big men to have agiiity and pace. Dawes ubfortubalty has neither. The big forward that doesn't have these attributes won't last in the modern game

Which is exactly why I question Footscray's interest in Choke. Ubfoftunately he also lacks agility and pace, the hallmark of Beveridge's game.

Highlights of today's Trade Radio:-

• Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan has signed a two-year contract extension to remain with the Demons until at least the end of 2019. The West Australian was due to come out of contract at the end of next season, with heavy interest coming from both the Dockers and the Eagles via a potential trade this year. However, Hogan put any speculation about his future to rest with today's contract extension, which was finalised at 7.30pm last night.

• Another WA key-position player has resisted the tempation to move home, with GWS ruckman Rory Lobb re-committing to the Giants until the end of the 2019 season. The 23-year-old signed the two-year contract extension despite heavy interest from both the Dockers and Eagles for his services.

• New Adelaide football boss David Noble has provided key updates on midfielder Tom Tockliff, as well as Pearce Hanley in an interview with NAB AFL Trade Radio.

• The future of Melbourne forward Chris Dawes remains in limbo, with Melbourne refusing to commit to the 29-year-old. Dawes played just six games this season, with Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney telling NAB AFL Trade Radio they might wait until after this year's NAB Trade Period before making a decision on his future at the club.

• He's got rid of his beard, and now Jimmy Bartel is set to make a decision on his future. Bartel, who has the option of taking a contract with Geelong next season, said today he hasn't yet ruled out retirement and will make a decision on his future in the next few weeks after meeting with coach Chris Scott.

• The Brisbane Lions have officially appointed Chris Fagan as the club's new senior coach. Fagan, who has worked at Hawthorn for the past nine years as both the head of coaching and GM of football, will work closely with newly appointed football manager David Noble.

• The future of Western Bulldogs midfielder Lin Jong will almost certainly come down to whether or not he can get senior games at the Bulldogs, according to his manager. Jong's manager Nick Gieschen told NAB AFL Trade Radio today that he would meet with Jong in the coming days, with the Gold Coast Suns heavily interested in securing him.

• GWS defender Adam Tomlinson will remain at the Giants next season, despite talk he may leave the Giants for further senior opportunities. Tomlinson's manager Nick Gieschen today told NAB AFL Trade Radio that Tomlinson would "100 per cent" be staying at the club next year.

• Fremantle has today swung the axe, with six players delisted by the club. Matt de Boer, Tendai Mzungu, Clancee Pearce, Jack Hannath, Brady Grey and Josh Deluca were all cut by the club.

I thought Brady Grey had a decent future from what I saw of him. Freo have offered for him to keep training with them. I'd be looking at him to see if he's worth poaching as a delisted player or ahead of their pick in the rookie draft. Quick and tough, could make a handy lock down defender.

I am a big fan of De Boer but wonder how he would fit onto our list. He seems to be a nuts-and-bolts type player with no stand out skill. Great team player though. I don't know too much about Hannath as a forward - can anyone enlighten?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
