Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bombers Request Friday Night Game In Round 1 2017

Whilst the game itself would be good for Melbourne to be a part of, Essendon can go jump.

They deserved a rubbish fixture this year and still got given a Friday night. They deserve a rubbish fixture next year.

Melbourne, the Dogs, North and St Kilda have to earn their fixtures, well so does Essendon.

Out of interest, when was the last time we played Essendon as the home team?

Round 15, 2010.

Before then it was Round 1, 2005 (the Troy Broadbridge game).

So since Round 1 2005, we've had 12 games for 1 home game, 11 away games.

What's a bigger disgrace is that Essendon's clash jumper this year is red. How they can be permitted by the AFL to have a red clash jumper and no white/grey alternative, when we have repeatedly been told we're not allowed that jumper, is beyond me.

Because the AFL is a wholly disinterested, impartial, arms-length organisation that prides itself on being even-handed, won't bow to vested interests, never plays favourites and is not at all arbitrary or vindictive.

If we look at this from a practical viewpoint the AFL were always going to help the Bombers out so we shouldn't be surprised ... they're a large corporation/business so making money and lots of it is one of their prime concerns if not their absolute prime concern.  They need Essendon up and running as one of their prime assets.

In terms of ethics, morals & integrity the decision to help the Bombers out is wrong on many fronts but the AFL won't care about that ... and most of the footy viewing public won't care either.  Lets keep it real.  The AFL is not really interested in clean sport because it's all too hard.  And I'm not sure that the public gives 2 hoots either.  1 urine test per player per season is not going to get it done (by a longshot)

So if it's going to happen (and it will) then we can take advantage of that if we're the requested opponent.  A home game in alternate years would be a great money spinner for the club but if we end up playing the Bombers twice then we're assured of another 'potential' blockbuster.

I absolutely hate the use of PED's in sport and if it was up to me they would have copped far harsher penalties but ... it isn't up to me and never will be.  We're part of a sporting organisation that is a mini version of FIFA ... that's the harsh reality folks.

I am staggered (yet not surprised) at the complete lack of shame by people at this disgrace of a club. To think they should get a game to celebrate the return of convicted drug cheats just shows the contempt that they have for anyone who believes sport should be free of drugs.

ed. We should not deal with these scum WRT Hibberd, get him as a delisted free agent or not at all, don't give the scum anything.

That is not going to happen Wyl

Most people I've spoken to about this issue (numerous people) don't really care all that much about the issue.  In the end, people just want their footy team to win and there simply aren't that many people who are outraged.  Their love of the sport rules even though the team in question is a hated foe.

There's not that many on this site who care enough either apart from a dozen or so posters who feature prominently on the EFC drug threads (of which I'm one of them) ... it seems like it's a lot more but the majority view is rather silent on this one.  That's my take on it anyway.

I just know how all these large sporting bodies work ... they all primarily work off the same agenda.  Money is at the heart of the issue and Essendon being down = less money.

You and I are on the same page here Wyl, I'm more highlighting the practicalities of the situation.

I'd be happy for this game to occur if it was our home game. I can't remember our last home against them so bugger em.

No doubt chose us because we always seem to choke against them.

I don't mind the idea, particularly if Hird is given a lap of honour at half time.

And of course Gill will accede to anything to help this poor, misunderstood victim of a club back on their feet.

Bloody cheek of them.

Gill was already quoted earlier in the year that one of the AFL's priorities is to help in the "rehabilitation" of the Essendon Footy Club.

Since when does the bottom team get Friday nights!  No other 'low' clubs get prime FTA time slots.  They get ANZAC Day, The Indigenous Game vs Richmond.  They do not deserve another blockbuster let alone another prime FTA time slot.

STKilda, Bulldogs, North and Us have had to earn them the hard way - on our merits by winning games, not having them handed to us on a silver platter.  Will be interesting to see how many Friday night games we get!!!!

I bet they did not have the courtesy of asking our club to participate before making their request to the AFL.

Great points all round

These are the little things that bug the [censored] out of me about the club. You want to earn respect, stop letting the AFL push you around

The reason we always play Essendon and Carlton as away games at the G is because the MCC requests this.

This is to ensure we play as many games at the MCG as possible.

If that's the case then why can't we play Gold Coast and GWS as away games at the MCG, it would achieve the MCC's purpose and give the interstate clubs the opportunity of playing at the G. There may only be 15,000 supporters at the games but MFC supporters would be happy.

That way we could play Essendon and Carlton twice a year at the G, as well and get even more games there, the MCC would be over the moon.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
