Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell and Thank You, Roosy!

Had a good chat to him after training yesterday, same selfless approach, asked me where I thought we had improved, thanked me for my support during his time. Even got his holiday itinerary.

Said he was satisfied with what he had acheived, of course he added a few more wins would have been good

Club planning to give him send off at B&F

My goodness, has it been three years already? I remember being 17, sitting at a computer in my high school library when I heard the news for the first time. Safe to say that I celebrated a bit too passionately and everyone started giving me weird looks. I then watched the entire press conference with a huge grin on my face. Feels like as if it was yesterday.

Anyway, it goes without saying that Paul Roos has left an indelible mark on the club that will live on for many years. Thanks Roosy, You're more than welcome to join in and celebrate with us when we soon hold up that premiership cup. Thanks to you, it seems far closer than what it was 2-3 years ago.

Love ya, Roosy. If ever there was a time to write him an email, now would be it.

He was quite moved in that Roos Views finale. I hope he gets to see 'his' demons win a flag or two in the coming 3-5 years. ;)

Yep, whatever happens this weekend, it is time to glow with the satisfaction of not being a basket-case club any more.

And we achieved that at a time when the proportion of basket-case clubs is actually increasing!

On the bright side to him finishing his coaching career, we'll be able to invite him to club functions for the next few decades at least.

The extra tickets sold will probably pay back his coaching salary. Good investment.

P.Roos was a fantastic player, coach and person.

I have only ever been in a crowd and witnessed his humility in accepting thanks from individuals in a very personal fashion.

He has not saved the club as an individual and is the first to acknowledge that but he has certainly been a(the) most significant part of our survival. He has improved the performance of individuals and teams through his consistency, honesty and transparency.

He has set a high bar for all who follow.

He must always be remembered as a Demon

Yep, Whatever happens from here we aren't the laughing stock of the football world. It's [censored] that I'm happy with that, but it's better than where I was 5 years ago. Under Neeld I thought we were going to be gone forever. Now I enjoy seeing my lads play. Up days and down days, but I look at every contest as a potential win, rather than hoping the loss will be under 6 goals.

Hope is a wonderful thing

Roosy has put us on the right journey. Before Roos accepted the challenge this club was completely lost. Living entirely on past success

But the journey itself starts next year. Roos has set it up for Goodwin to go forward.

In my view the club is still sitting on Rocky Ground, but if Goodwin is ready he will know what is required.

It's now up to the players. Are they full time MFC Footballers or just paid to just turn up.

A lot of people were saying thanks at training, think he felt humbled by it, hopefully it will be a good send off at the B&F, think he is looking forward to the holiday, in both the presser and in person he looks tired, not tired enough to put the wood on the AFL to give Jayden Hunt the last Rising Star nomination, team first always, never about him

Thanks Paul for your time, and in turn your family's. No more rare compliment than to be a .maker of men, and you have done this where you walk.

I've become so accustomed to Roos being our coach it's kind of surreal to think that it's come to the end. It's also been forever since there has been a genuine handover rather than sacking. Neale Daniher's was I guess smooth in comparison to the years that followed but even then it was exactly clean.

We say goodbye to Roosy with heavy hearts because he has been a comfort to have at the helm. For the most part, no matter how bad things were the supporters went to the mantra of "in Roos we trust". He's done his job, it's a shame the players couldn't send him off with one last finals campaign but we weren't ready.

Best of luck to you Paul; you were a Roy, then you were a Blood, but you'll also now always be a Demon! :roos:

Paul Roos' legacy is only just starting to emerge on-field, but his off-field legacy is in place, influential, and should be long lasting. For some reason he is one of those quality people who advances and progresses everything around him. What Bartlett has done in the business sense, what PJ has done in the management and organisational sense, Roos has done in the footbal sense. We have vision, strategy, quality people,  and a very clear future laid oit with a succession plan.

When he arrived at MFC I could hardly watch footy. My love and enjoyment of watching it at its highest level had been completely  eroded by the Schwab era, hitting its horrible low during the years with Mark Neeld.

Thank you Roosy, for giving back one old Demon devotee his love of his club and his love of football.

As Roos is into his last month I thought it may be worth recognising his contribution in a separate thread. If mods feel thread should be merged elsewhere, no prob.

First contribution from our likely future captain, Jack Viney: “I think his greatest legacy at the football club will be the culture. Hopefully down the track when we are being successful, it will be Roosy that set the foundation for that...I will miss him a great deal. He has been terrific for our football club, coming in when the club wasn’t going so well and really setting some strong foundations.”   http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/paul-roos-to-test-demons-young-talent-against-hawthorn/news-story/718fb452b3441a1c22724475d8151bdd

I recall Jack saying in an interview recently saying that 'Roosy is the 'boss dog' said with the earnestness that left no doubt as to who is in charge and in a tone that had awe, respect and adoration.

From Jack Watts recently:  'Roosy’s probably saved my career, to be honest...It’s his person skills and the way he actually invests in his players outside of football'.

Methinks that along with the undoubted respect in which Roos is held there is also much love from the players.

People may find fault with some Roos' decision, rate of improvement etc but he never lost sight of the end game: setting up our club for a successful future.  I believe he has delivered that in spades.  He (and PJ et al) has made MFC relevant again. I will be eternally grateful for restoring pride in my club again.

Following on from Jack's words above when we are being successful, it will be Roosy that set the foundation for that, my dream vision is Barassi and Roos presenting the Premiership Cup to Jones and or Viney!

Roosy is one of natures gentlemen. I met him once at Matt Rendell's pub in North Fitzroy when we followed Fitzroy and unlike some people ( e g. Gary Pert ) displayed no outward signs of hubris or arrogance and was really nice to us ordinary members.

Great read with this article giving another bit of insight of his tenure at the club.

I will always be greatful to him in that I can now go to a game again hopeful of a win. After years of expecting a loss each week.

Enjoy your retirement Roosy. Thanks again.

Will be one of 1000 Melbourne fans there today.
Look for the hipster looking bloke holding a large sign with a picture of Roosy and his mullet in the Fitzory days and him as Jesus with words saying 'FROM MULLET TO MESSIAH...WE THANK-YOU ROOSY!'

Clearly taking the [censored] out of the messiah thing, whilst also giving thanks for what he has done for the club.

If you see me, come have a beer.

So today is the day.

Feeling a lot of sadness to be saying goodbye to such an integral part of our club who has helped secure and shape our future.

Congrats Roosy. There aren't even words to convey how greatful we are for saving our club.

Loved this statement " if Goody and Nate get to hold up the Cup on GF day, it will be one of the best days of my life".

Thanks Roos and PJ, for giving us back our club and respect to go with it.

Three years ago before he was appointed I was questioning whether or not this club would survive or whether we could be saved. I had lost hope and even though it's just football it had been a massive part of my young life and it was sad to think that it could be coming to an end. Three years later I'm questioning whether we could sneak into the finals. This guy has turned our club around (same goes for pj) and I couldn't be more passionate and excited for our future. It's a sad day that he is saying goodbye but he'll be there when Goodwin and Jones are holding up that cup and thousands of red and blue faithful are screaming and crying that we did it. People may think we overdid it with our love for Roos and being sad he is leaving but not many people came close to losing their club like we did. Thank you for saving our club Roosy!

I still remember my trip to Europe the year when there were whispers about Paul Roos being appointed as coach. I visited every chapel and cathedral I could find, lit enough candles to start a fire and did several hundred Hail Marys.

I am so grateful to whatever power bought him to our club????

Want to reflect on how far we've come? Go back into the early days of Titus O'reilly, before he became a bit of a footy media mainstream 'personality'.

Match reviews aplenty, and whole articles with titles like "Why it is awful to be a Demon supporter" and "2012. Worst. Season. Ever".

We've come a long way, even if we can still see the shadow lurking.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
