Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lot of talk across the forum on how we are moving up etc but it caused me to think about the last two times when we made the GF (1988 and 2000)

Both times we came up against teams that were at the top of their games. Essendon lost one game in 2000.

The Giants lost their first three games of this season and then in Round 10 against Adelaide at home. Looking at their run home it is hard to see them losing another game other than perhaps against North in the last round.

Their art of trading good but NQR players for early draft picks means they continue to top up. Combine that with the home ground advantage of an interstate team and they have a lot going for them.

It would be very disappointing if we are remembered as the "bridesmaids" to another dynasty albeit an AFL "made" one!

This is my worst nightmare.  Missing out on a flag for over 50 years and to miss out to a team fabricated out of thin air and gifted so much advantage in talent by the governing body in the name of progress.

Supporters of a club that's been in existence for half a dozen years tasting the ultimate success before hardened passionate supporters who have been through so many hard times and continues to put money into the club for over 50 years.

It may happen to the dogs too.

It'll break my heart.

The whole GWS expansion (manipulation) puts me right off footy.

Ever noticed that the AFL consistently retweet GWS tweets - so that if you follow AFL on twitter you pretty much can't help but follow GWS too...... makes me ill.   Any GWS flag should have an asterix next to it.

Even with superior foot skills to everyone else, Hawthorn were not unbeatable. But they were the best team on the right day (3 times in a row). GWS are no Hawthorn. They will be more than beatable. I'm not really too concerned about a GWS dynasty. They might pinch 1 or 2, but there will be no 5-6 year dominance where other teams don't get a look in. We will get out chance, and if were are good enough to take it we will, if not, there will be no excuses.

You are right about the Dogs.

I have a friend who is a wildy passionate Dogs supporter. At present he is in heaven and have been trying to explain to him that system does not favour teams likes ours. Not sure he gets it.

It's a scary thought...

However, Essendon were arguably the best team in the league from 1999-2001 and only won one flag; Geelong were the best team for 2007-2011 and only took out three; while the Hawks were the dominant team of 2012 but lost the GF to Sydney.

Having the 'best' team doesn't necessarily win you flags.

GWS are already scary. They are 2 years ahead of us with their list development. We will run into them at their peak like we did with Essendon in 2000.

The trick this time around is to stay up there for more than one season. If we can do that we can pinch one.

We beat them the last two times;if it bleeds, then we can kill it.

Disclaimer: Part of the above sentence has been taken from the 1987 movie Predator .It has only been intended as a metaphor that GWS are not invincible and Emerald in no way condones the killing of GWS.

I added the disclaimer so the PC advocates don't get the wrong idea.

Agreed, they are hands down my most despised team. I'd sooner join the Essendon cheer squad than congratulate that franchise on their success.

Hate them.

If they were a Tassie team instead, which makes much more sense, I'd hate them far less

I'm still a bit miffed about the creation of Luxembourg but I guess it stopped the Germans for a bit.

Looking very far ahead here, but the Grand Final is on our home ground so if it comes to that we should have that going for us at least.

Giants are loaded with talent, but i don't rate Leon Cameron as a coach, and i think they can be exposed in contested ball, they fall away massively in this area if Mumford isn't at his best, and you don't just find players like Mumford easily.

but my god it'd be depressing to miss out on a flag because of them.

I doubt Mumford will still be there when we are challenging them. Same goes for Shaw and Griffen.

Let them have their fun, they will win a flag or 2 then fall away like the lions. I think we have the talent to push them anyway. Besides people dont want to move to Blacktown unless they can get a flag. Eventually they will fall and that will be it, Lions 2.0

So much sooking!

The GC experience shows success is not a given with the assistance provided to these clubs.  If GWS is successful it will be because of excellent management.  I support expansion and I remember the start of the Bears - ugly!

And a final point - we've exploited the opportunities the GWS assistance has provided more that any other club.  Hogan for Scully.  Salem and Tyson for Kelly.  Weidemann for Academy picks.  Our list would be poorer without our good trading relationship with them.

I prefer GWS to win the flag this year more than anyone else apart from the Dogs and possibly the Crows (who IMO have lost more to expansion than any other team and have also suffered the Walsh tragedy).  Hawrthorn, Sydney, Geelong, West Coast, North - yuk!

I would also rather one of GWS, Crows or Dogs win it this year. In a year where underdogs like leicester and cleveland were able to win championships around the world it would speak pretty poorly on our games "equalisation" if we had a top tier club win again. If Geelong, Sydney or Hawthorn win I'll be fuming, sick of the same few clubs holding the cup.. That being said if GWS becomes the next freo and never wins a flag i wouldn't be too upset.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
